Cannot say that with certainty. But out of my 5 shows, it was by far the best. I went to Bonnaroo 08, so I think that says something for most. Charlotte this year on the other hand, probably will always be my least favorite PJ show and experience.
2008: Bonnaroo
2010: Bristow
2012: Atlanta
2013: Charlottesville, Charlotte
2014: Cincinnati
2016: Greenville, Hampton, Raleigh (cancelled), Columbia, Lexington
Difficult to say Hank if you weren't there? Looks like a great setlist and many people probably left the building feeling like it was the best ever (haven't we all?) but without trying to belittle Lightning Bolt which I feel is a pretty decent album after 23 years, not for me. The top 20 PJ shows probably all occurred before Backspacer at least although many people will always stake a claim for their show. It's all about personal opinion and I can think of nearly 20 shows from the Binaural tour alone that for me at least are difficult to top. Add some classic 90's shows and they surely hit all their high water marks long before Avocado even? You need to split PJ's shows into separate decades now and for this decade alone Charlottesville is a definite contender to stake a claim as a top show but overall I think it is miles behind. Two rows back from Mike and I might have been singing it's praises as the best gig that ever happened but it just looks like a really good show!
Like a book among the many on a shelf...
Dublin 02 Arena - 22/6/10. Belfast Odyssey Arena - 23/6/10. London Hyde Park - 25/6/10. Berlin Wuhlheide - 30/6/10.
Manchester MEN - 20/06/12. Manchester MEN - 21/06/12
We'd have to check with some folks who've been to 100+ shows, but of the 16 I've seen, it was the second best (only behind Philly 3 in 2009) and definitely felt special.
00: Va Beach, 03: Bristow, 04: Reading, 05: Atlantic City 2x
06: Camden, Washington DC, 08: Va Beach, Washington DC
09: Philly 2+3, 10: Bristow, 11: East Troy PJ20 1+2, 13: Baltimore, Charlottesville
I will have to hear the boot, I subtracted the Lightning Bolt songs, and thought how stoked to hear so many of those songs that are from the previous albums
Grand Rapids 06 the best of all time 50 plus shows!
i was at this show and it was amazing. so much so that every show i went to after fell so far behind it...until pittsburgh this year, which i put up there with GR 06.
and, seeing the setlists and reading the reviews of the recent concerts, it just seems like the band is on a different level this tour, which is amazing after 20+ years.
i think we can all agree that every show is a special experience for the attendees of that particular show.
the only way to really know where shows rank against others is to have attended them all, and even then it is still subjective...
"...what a different life had i not found this love with you..."
Great show and incredible setlist but No. It was better than Wrigley and PJ20 imo though. I just think we're all going crazy because the setlists are great and they sound better than they ever have. They could be in their prime right now on stage.
I've been to 30+ shows and I'd say it's top 12. I've been to a lot of Northeast and Gorge shows. Brooklyn 2 this tour is creeping up on me as top 3 for me ever. MSG 2 '10 is still God.
2003: Uniondale, MSG x2 | 2004: Reading | 2005: Gorge, Vancouver, Philly | 2006: East Rutherford x2, Gorge x2, Camden 1, Hartford | 2008: MSG x2, VA Beach | 2009: Philly x3 | 2010: MSG x2, Bristow | 2011: Alpine Valley x2 | 2012: MIA Philly | 2013: Wrigley, Charlottesville, Brooklyn 2 | 2014: Milan, Amsterdam 1 | 2016: MSG x2, Fenway x2, Wrigley 2 | 2018: Rome, Krakow, Berlin | 2021: Sea Hear Now | 2022: San Diego, LA x2, MSG, Camden, Nashville, St. Louis, Denver | 2023: St. Paul 1, Chicago x2, Fort Worth x2, Austin 2
Probably close to that mark. It was better than Columbia 08, Det 2 '03, and possibly better than Grand Rapids 06. I don't think it was better than Chicago '00 given the context.

I think you certainly need to add MSG I to your list from 2003.
Among others. Several shows on that tour were just insane. Some more from 2000 as well, Katowice, Seattle, Boise..And there has to be a VFC show on there.
I remember watching some of those 03 setlists roll in and it was pretty mindblowing from night to night the way they would mix it up. I've been following sets this tour and it just doesn't have the same effect. They may be playing more songs, but the peaks and valleys of the setlists are very similar.
I haven't seen them for a couple years, but I'm gonna disagree that they're sounding the best they ever have. They set a pretty high standard from 98-04.
I'd honestly drop the first PJ show off I know it has alot of historical significance for the band, but I doubt it was among the greatest shows.

Lost in Ohio I know that you did not intend to make a complete list here, but I must mention that there were some amazing shows in 2006 and Hartford 2008 deserves consideration as well.
Ive seen only one show..C'Ville..Im far from a PJ expert but what I experienced was incredible..the venue..the crowd..the unreal sound of this show..oh..and the setlist missing a few faves ( crown/hiding/mary) and a few more..(edit) forgot the band energy..amazing..they were feeling it.
Its been 3 days and I'm still recovering.
Best show for me out of 25. Mostly culminating in the acoustic set because the sound in that place was just unbelievable and those 5 particular songs are very meaningful, but you add in the rarities and just the overall flow, and the energy of the band, and it was just a night I'll never forget.
Charlottesville was my 12th show. I've been fortunate to see others mentioned here, Wrigley and Va. Beach 2000. I also saw the Vancouver 2011 show which, until C-ville, was my favorite. That said, and I know it's fun to debate these things, but there's so much that goes into the experience at a show it's impossible to rank them objectively. In this case, I met some really cool people at this show, it was a beautiful day to be waiting outside for GA. We had fun stories to tell from all parts of the day. I had my daughter with me and we got on the rail right in front of Eddie and Stone. My daughter got two picks from Ed and a point and a wave from Mike. After that they could have played Bieber covers all night and I would have been happy.
But, it sure as heck seemed like the band was ON and the crowd was hyped. When they played Breath and State of Love and Trust back-to-back to open the 3rd set it sure felt like the place was in a frenzy. Getting Mother and Baba was way f-ing cool - especially when they teased us before Baba with "Over the Hills and Far Away."
Bottom line is that I walked away with an incredible high and memories I will share with my daughter for a lifetime. I happen to be fortunate enough to have a daughter who shares my passion for the band. When you are standing front row (a first for both of us) with a fatherly hand bracing your daughter's shoulder listening to a song like Release ... it makes your eyes a little moist. The fact that there is a conversation about just how epic this show was makes me happy to be able to say we were there.
