Stephen King, who wrote the novel that serves as the show's source material
Anyone else find that line comical? Straying pretty damn far from the source material if you ask me.
Read the book guys.

Feels like this show keeps getting worse every week but I'll probably still watch. Not like there is anything else on during the summer. I hate being one of those annoying people that says "the book is so much better" but in this case it's so true...
My wife and I have finally gotten around to watching The Americans which has been on our DVR for a long time. To say it is better than Under the Dome is a huge understatement.
I've missed the last two weeks. I do like it, just keep having other shit pop up. Is it straying that much from the book still?
Pretty much everything from the 3rd episode on is a deviation from the book.

Yeah. It is a completely different story. Only things in common are the fact there is a dome, town name, character names, and a few occupations.
I don't even mind if they stray from the book as long as the story is good. When I actually first read about it, they were saying it was going to be different from the book especially if it lasted more than one season because the book happens over a few days (I think) and obviously they would need it to last longer for the series. They also said they were going to change the ending which I am also all for since I thought the ending of the book was kind of silly.
But when you stray from the book and the result is way inferior, no thanks. That's why I bailed.
Every episode, there is a moderate issue that is sloppily conceived, and a quick solution, and everything is apparently cool. The book had more of a build-up of multiple issues and focused on the characters, who each had a much more defined (and better) arc. I have said it before, but Jim Rennie Sr. in the book was classic, one of SK's better characters IMO. This is similar to making a series of The Shining, and Jack Torrence is a clean cut Boy Scout leader father who wants to protect his family from ghosts.
The acting is terrible overall. Whoever Rennie Jr is, acts like he just walked off the set of his high school drama club.
Then you look at the background, and what the extras are all doing looks so awkward and not believable at all. All this lends to cringe-worthy moments.
I also cant figure out why Julia Schumway needs to read the news announcements on the radio. Why cant the radio people do that?
But for some reason the numbers are good and they got renewed... I still DVR it, just because I liked the book so much. Its getting harder to watch though, and the watching takes place closer and closer to the beginning of the following episode.

This reads like it came out of my brain. MayDay10: he organizes Pearl Jam fantasy leagues, he critiques crappy TV....is there anything this guy can't do?
man that last episode was so bad.
they're gonna make this a fit for cable soft porn w/ julia and barbie, aren't they?

Just a big SK fan and a fan of fantasy sports/gambling
Okay, just watched this week's episode. Here is a review.
It was the strongest of the past 4-5 episodes, but still a steaming pile of shit. The story really isnt going anywhere.
Bad writing
1. Who is getting furniture delivered?
2. The lady cop asking Barbie about sparks between him and Julia. Seemed very awkward and wouldnt happen as Julia is married and lady cop would likely be very aware and used to that fact. They also never really gave any signs of romance, all they did was look at one another for 1 second.
3. The extras during the rioting scenes were all laughably unbelievable.
4. So torrential downpours just happened out of nowhere at the perfect time and suddenly everyone just stops rioting and helps each other get buckets? Problem solved, ready for the next episode?
5. There also seems to be a bunch of wind blowing hair around and whatnot
I cant believe Stephen King signed off on this. Searching for reviews on the show on the internet, I found plenty of people trashing him for the story.
Its also funny that I hate this show as much/more than anyone here and I am still watching it and talking about it the most. It just astonishes me that the show is doing so well.

I feel the same.
I guess we're contributing to this evil even-though we're just DVR'ing it.
Gotta be the trainwreck aspect as someone else said.
HOW THE FUCK IS IT RAINING INSIDE THE DOME, HUH??
Didn't they try to spray water thru from the other side in an earlier episode and only a faint mist came thru (same as the book) and now the dome is apparently high enough so that clouds can form within?
This is why I can't just start watching something... I become vested and can't pull away, no matter how bad it gets. I'm pretty sure I'll be watching this solo now as my boyfriend has said he has had enough of the horrible acting and writing... and he didn't even read the book to be as judgmental about the major flaws in the story! I try not to point out every difference to him in hopes he'll enjoy the show, but its just that bad.

I've done that with other shows (Lost, Walking Dead, Newsroom) where I watch it and hate it and then talk about it here. But usually I'm in the minority and other people are bashing me for pointing out the show's faults. At least here it's mostly a big lovefest of hate for it.
I agree about King signing off. But it's not so much that he signed off, he was hawking it and really seems to think it's good. Maybe he just got a truckload of money for it. (Though I can't imagine any amount of money really making a difference to him at this point.)
i watched omnly the pilot episode so far..like it..how the shows going?still good?
in what episode is now?
need to catch up
"...Dimitri...He talks to me...'.."The Ghost of Greece..".
"..That's One Happy Fuckin Ghost.."
“..That came up on the Pillow Case...This is for the Greek, With Our Apologies.....”
Still love watching and pointing out the idiotic writing...I need a show to pick on.
The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.
I haven't been on here in awhile, but was happy to see there was an 'Under the Dome' thread. Joey and I dvr'd this show from the beginning. After the pilot, we thought it was cheesy...but there was promise. Now we just think it's a terrible show. However, I'm someone that can't stop watching a show after investing a certain amount of time...now we just watch to see how horrible it's going to be each week.
"...Dimitri...He talks to me...'.."The Ghost of Greece..".

I caught the last 15 minutes or so last night after missing for several weeks. More plot holes that you could drive a truck through.
What's with the woman who showed up after 8 days? Is this the first time we've seen her? Where's she been hiding? And she knows enough to blackmail Jim and Barbie? How convenient, a new villain.
How come Angie is still hanging out with the guy who kept her chained up in a fallout shelter? Girl, are you NUTS?
i agree the show isnt that good..but last night episode,Natalie Zea was there..ill keep watching that shit now..
"...Dimitri...He talks to me...'.."The Ghost of Greece..".
"..That's One Happy Fuckin Ghost.."
“..That came up on the Pillow Case...This is for the Greek, With Our Apologies.....”
so that's how they're getting good ratings... stocking the cast with hot chicks. it all makes sense now :fp:
