From the day that No Code came out, until Feb. 19 2013, I would have said "In My Tree" easily. That song has been one of my favs all these years. After my GF passed away, I heard "Light Years" for the umpteenth time, and yet heard it for the first time. The song means more to me now, today, than any PJ tune except for "Corduroy" so I vote for "Light Years"

Nothing against Light Years... but IMT just sounds better. Better singing... more prominent drumming. = Good.

Light Years is how i decifer if someone is a PJ die hard or not???
Cause its such an amazing song,
and i've come accross so so many pj fans over the years that have no clue its a great song and some don't even know it exists....
Really trips me out, so you can see how it helps me figure just how well they listen...so to speak...
as for the IMT vs light years....
In my tree is in my top 7....while Light y is in my top 20...
still both very very good songs...as you can pretty much inter change any of your top 20
IMT does happen to be one of my favorite PJ songs (probably in top 5)... I admit that I always felt Light Years is kind of overrated, as in, i don't get the extreme appeal. I mean, it IS a really good song, and Binaural is my favorite album - a masterpiece start to finish, and Light Years is a part of that. But it surprises me that it ranks right up there as a true favorite song for so many. It's a great song and the lyrics are indeed fantastic, but to me it's not super interesting as a stand-alone song. I feel like it is important as a part of the whole of Binaural, but not a specific highpoint in my mind. I have the same exact feeling about Footsteps as a song. Good song, great lyrics... I just don't get all the hype. It's a bit uninteresting all by itself for me.
In My Tree, on the other hand, had such incredible lyrics, and also has something special and super unique and so powerful about it, and the feel of the song and that cool sound if height and distance that they manage matches the lyrics so perfectly. It is the true star of No Code IMHO...... The only problem with In My Tree is that only Jack Irons can really do it justice, so it's not a super great song live. So that's a shame.

Of my innocence... got back my inner sense...
I love both but IMT hits another level with guitar tone and solo and Ed cranking it up with "wave to all my friends".
It's just more of a "tiered" song if that makes sense to anyone but me. More of a journey.
All that I once held as true

Jack Irons.
God bless the mighty Jack Irons, God bless Jack.
12+ inches of snow on my favorite mountain, flying through my favorite tree stash on my snowboard, listening to In My Tree
Up here so high I start to shake
Up here so high the sky I scrape
I'm so high I hold just one breath here within my chest
Just like my innocence

I suggest you step out on your Porch.
Run away my son. See it all. Oh, See the World!
Yeah I really miss Jack. Been thinking of him a lot while listening to King Animal weirdly enough.
In My Tree all the way

Well, you were not the only one...
Because it always makes me feel close to my dad, who passed away in 2008.
