This is the one argument I hear from the pro-gun crowd that I simply don't understand. Honestly, what difference is a semiautomatic weapon going to make against a government that controls the world's largest military with more firepower than the rest of the world combined? If the US government ever decided to go full-out fascist there is no way you are going to compete with their strength. They wouldn't even have to confront you face-to-face; it would probably just as easy to take you out with a drone. How on earth do you expect to stand up to something like that?

there are 3 levels in winning the war....to have the biggest gun is the 3rd you need to win..
communication number 1..transport number 2...goverment will kick your ass ,before the 1st bullet...

The Syrian rebels have far less fire power. They're still making progress..not that I support this arguement cos I highly doubt our military would ever allow our Government to do a take over like that..

I dunno about Hitler, but disarming was certainly one of Castro's first acts. He didn't want anyone pulling the same stunt he did to gain control..

The Syrian military also has far less firepower. Honestly, every time gun control is brought up, gun advocates insist you can't compare gun homicides between nations because the US is distinct and more free than anywhere else yet when it comes to fighting one's government you're comparing Syria, a country with an insignificant military with aging technology to the US, the most powerful nation on earth?

Moreover, if your military isn't going to support your government's move towards fascism, why would citizens need semiautomatic weapons in the first place? I just don't get this line of thinking.
