It is the same principle... but are people actually buying those $300 blue rays now?? I know they're posted, but I don't think they're selling anymore, really. Well, anyway, we shall see! I definitely think prices will go down as the albums are reissued. First pressing will still cost a premium, but nowhere near what they're going for now I don't think. But hey, if they don't, makes no diff to me - I would never get a first pressing if I could get a reissue for a fraction of the price (although this stupid double-LP shit continues, I will pay more for a first pressing if it's not too much).
I hear you! 10C have to realize that everyone who collects will buy the re-issues. Even people who have the originals. I know I did it with the first 3. I then have a gap of 8 albums and Backspacer at the end.
I just bought Yield last night on Discogs for $80 VG+/VG+ but I would have preferred to spend that here getting 3 albums
Yeah, I've got Ten to No Code, then a huge gap until Backspacer. The gap is absolutely killing me. I did just buy Lost Dogs... for $175 plus $50 shipping! :fp: I almost puked when I saw that Lost Dogs was on sale at the poster convention for $75.

:?: They're not dreaming of re-releasing them... because they've already been re-released. They've got 3 out of the way - a bunch more to go.
I'm with you on the attitude of scarcity. Aside from the prices, I want as many people as possible to have the vinyl.
Yea I know what they have released and re-released! I think we are saying the same thing, wires crossed.
I agree with many of the opinons posted here that I don't want to highlight each one and get into. But, I will say that I still do like the super deluxe reissues. I have both Ten and the Vs/Vitalogy SDE reissues. One, not only just because of the reissue of each album on vinyl itself, but because of the boots from the shows from that specific era they include in there on vinyl as well (Drop In The Park show for Ten and Orpheum Theatre show for Vs/Vitalogy). Those two reasons alone make the SDE reissues worth it for me, and also because I plan on collecting them all - but maybe not others. Not to mention, both being included on CD and remastered along with all the other goodies and add-ons included - makes for a very nice set and collection if you are willing to pay the money and collect them.
But like I said, I'm all for reissuing the albums on vinyl by themself for a cheaper price ALONG with the super deluxe reissues - to provide the best inentions of pleasing everyone (never going to happen anyway). Hahahaha, but I also tend to agree with other comments made on here about the scarcity being the piece of the puzzle when it comes to vinyl. All about suppky and demand.
So......I guess I'm okay with whatever. Either way it's not going to ruin my day or how I go about it. I've been content knowing I will collect the reissues as they come as along as I'm willing to pay the money for them because I find it worth it.

It's not up to the 10 Club to re-release albums. They're the fan club.
I agree totally. Fuck this remix/remasters stuff only, just re-release the standard version of everything, limit it to 3-4 thousand and everyone is happy.
I think in all of PJ's efforts to give us spoiled ass fan clubbers all the shit we ask for, they have become money grubbing in ways. Sure they offer services and goods and should be reimbursed, and their rates are pretty standard for what they offer. I am just tired of the limited edition shit, ebay overreaction price gouging, and in the end the jackasses who love the band the most pay up the ass for stuff they would love to have. Creating demand by limiting your own goods is a nice tried and true business practice, but I think if the fans are really all you care about, and not the fucking almighty dollar you have railed against for years on your records, then make shit in quantities we can all get (like backspacer) sure put out some colored limited shit, but make the regular stuff easily available for the unlucky people who were not born at the right time.
You made the adjustment on the seating, time to adjust it in your release policy

My bad! The band in that case. I hope they have the rights!!
I wonder who decides that the remaining stock should collect dust in a warehouse. Marketing? Management? 10C? The band?
I've said this all along. I don't think it's up to PJ. Sony still owns the rights, so PJ has to release them how Sony wants them to, and that's in those big gaudy expensive boxes.
I got all hyped up for the boxes when they came out, but now, they are just dusty boxes. MTV Unplugged was awesome, but would have been much better unedited and complete. I was hoping the V/V set would also have a dvd, but we got an incomplete live show instead.
I find it very odd that they go to these lengths and then do stupid things like only part of a show on a the physical releases and send you digital files of the rest of the songs. Not even the LAST songs.
At least when Dead Weather did it they had the encore on a 7", but the the rest of the show was on the LP.

I think the band feels that if they rerelease something it has to be a big thing. It doesn't. Bands just as big repress vinyl all the time. The Foo Fighters just reissued their entire catalog. You don't need huge announcements. Just have it show up in stores.

I see. And yes, I feel the same. I have almost the whole catalogue of my other fave band on vinyl, and it wasn't a fortune. I got the vinyl bug because of this forum and it is kind of sad that it doesn't work out with PJ without being shit-faced rich :(

Please, Pearl Jam, consider a Benaroya Hall vinyl reissue!
I initially got into vinyl because of the Ten and Vs. Superdeluxe box sets. I had Drop in the Park and the Orpheum show, but no way to play it. I got the Superdeluxe of Live on Ten Legs as well. So I purchased an Audiotechnica turntable. Then I got the Into the Wild re-issue, Ukulele Songs, and Backspacer on vinyl. All relatively cheap.
But the next part is where I feel the complaints. I had to save money each month to hunt down a Pearl Jam album on vinyl. I hunted down a sealed Yield for ($130) and a Ex- No Code for ($80). Next was Rearviewmirror on vinyl ($220) and Lost Dogs($165). I tracked down a Binaural for ($225), Self-titled for ($130) and Live on Two Legs for ($180) and finally a Riot Act for ($150). I also found a Temple of the Dog on colored vinyl and Singles Soundtrack($80). It has cost me a pretty penny to track down the albums. But each time I listen is like a different experience..almost like it's LIVE in my living room..and it keeps music that I have heard thousands of times on CD or MP3 fresh. That is what people pay for.
I am eagerly awaiting the Mad Season re-issue so I can have that on vinyl. Pearl Jam sure does make it old school collecting..trying to hunt them all down.
I did buy ALL the Foo Fighters re-issues on Vinyl for around $150. Incubus just re-released all of their catalog on vinyl as well for $26 an album. Would I be mad if Pearl Jam re-issued all the albums after I paid much more for them? Not really. I have enjoyed them, and they are the originals. It's the risk you take with collectibles.
What I really want is a 10th Anniversary re-issue of Bennyroya on vinyl..in 2013.....

then why dont they go ahead and re-issue all of their studio albums in normal fashion like everyone else does, and has frankly, so that their fans and fellow vinyl lovers can pick up their favorite Pearl Jam LP's for normal prices instead of the crackhead high prices that they have been going for in the secondadry market the last 5+ years...
stop with the $150 super deluxe boxset reissue's (unless you do it like Ten where you offered both the boxset with the live LP for $150 and the regular LP for regular price), and $75 "leftover" LP sales at art conventions, and just let your fans buy their favorite LP from their favorite band for $20... your business plan of milking this bullshit cow for as long as you can with overpriced reissues and forcing your die hard fans to either pay several hundred dollars for an LP on ebay, or never hear it on vinyl, is a joke at this point my friends... you want to cash in? reissue every album at once.... i guarantee that if you release every PJ LP for a normal $20-$25 price i will buy every single one, directly from you... and guess what, so will everyone else...
as a band and fanclub arent you sick of seeing people saying $75 for an LP is a "great price"? aren't you sick of seeing these same LP's selling on ebay to YOUR fans for $200-$300? dont you want your fans and friends to enjoy your music on high quality vinyl? for a fair price? i think it's time to step up
vinyl has been back for quite a few years now, and i think it is time to let your fans spink the black circle
part of the pearl jam vinyl appeal is scarcity, but that applies only to collectors (and flippers) appeal and not those who appreciate vinyl.
For me it's about a different sound. It reminds me of a different time. Basically a kid in me comes out. It's scarcity does not mean much to me.
A new realese would be good for the new Pearl Jam fans and those who abandonded vinyl for whatever reasons. A new print would have remixed on it and give the vinyl listener a chance to hear. I am not a collector i'm not paying 100 to 300 dollars for a record. So if someone who wants and orf pressing of Yield will still pay that money because they want the org release. I get that but that's not what i can afford or do.
I completely disagree!!!! That has absolutely NOTHING to do with its appeal to me.
+1
There are so many reasons vinyl rocks and that is not one of them.
I agree with the OP that with pearl jams love for vinyl, Its strange that pearl jam aren't the most vinyl friendly band anymore.
I also AGREE that scarcity is DEFINITELY part of the appeal. The fact that you have to shop around, go hunting, know when to buy, some are hard to come across. etc.. in return, you can be proud of your collection and show friends records they wont/may not have seen in vinyl form. If you could buy every vinyl LP from 2.50 on ebay, like you can with used CDs in a way it would be great, but it would take something away from the experience. I'm not saying I like paying more money for records, But it turns record collecting into a time consuming hobby. Not just buying albums at any time you feel like cause you know the album you want will always be available at a low price. When i go shopping for records I will get excited when i see a vinyl of a band i like, but with CD's you just go to the section of the band.
I happen to own all studio pearl jam releases that I got mostly at reasonable prices(under $50) (excluding binaural $100) a few years ago. SO I'm good there, but I want some STP records which are all over the $100 mark, so I will be waiting for re-issues. That just part of the deal when you collect records. Sometimes you cant get what you want all the time but it makes it feel more special when you get them.

I'm sure I read earlier this year that Sony doesn't have the rights to the back catalogue anymore. Either way Pearl Jam will have a say in anything that gets re-released.
The more I think about it, what 10c did on Sunday was pretty disgraceful. Marking Benny up 10x what they originally sold for is just wrong. Regardless of what the secondary market value is.

With so many 7", 10", and 12" singles and versions of them out there though, there is plenty for all to collect. There are 4 pages to this thread so far and nobody has asked for a re-issue of old X-Mas singles which are really expensive and highly collectible. What people want are the albums so they can listen to them!! People understand the rarity of Let me Sleep and it should stay rare and a treasure item. But not the band's albums - it doesn't make any sense!!!
In my opinion, if they re-release any vinyls, it should be with a slightly different album cover. This way the people who have the originals will be happy and the people that want to hear it on vinyl will be happy.
Kind of like the remaster of Ten has a different color than the original.
I bought the original GnR Live Like a Suicide when I was a kid for $5 and sold it years later for $500. Am I bad for doing this nah?
I bought it again years later (but it was a fake). I had a different back cover. Did I care? Nope. I still get to hear it on vinyl.

i know why this fan did it, because they are a fan and wants to listen to his favorite band on some wax... but that doesnt mean this should be the norm... and it definitely should not be acceptable to the fans...

It's not up to the 10 Club to re-release albums. They're the fan club.

I see. And yes, I feel the same. I have almost the whole catalogue of my other fave band on vinyl, and it wasn't a fortune. I got the vinyl bug because of this forum and it is kind of sad that it doesn't work out with PJ without being shit-faced rich :(
But the next part is where I feel the complaints.

Would love to have the rest of their albums on vinyl, especially Benny Hall.

Well said
For me it's about a different sound.
**** This is what I remember reading!!! http://www.kobaltmusic.com/page-news-de ... p?id=WN137
The more I think about it, what 10c did on Sunday was pretty disgraceful. Marking Benny up 10x what they originally sold for is just wrong. Regardless of what the secondary market value is.

But....... I'm in the process of getting every record on vinyl and I have been trading stuff here and there to get them and it's been so much fun. Please wait until I get them all, thanks
All I am missing is RVM, Benaroya hall (hah), no code and yield. Those last two I can wait for as they are next in line for being re-issued, if that ever happens.

Do the box sets later on for extras but get the albums out now.

Same here...a time warp.. brings me back to when my Pops was listening to his goods. A connection to an older better time.
this is exactly what i am talking about... it should NOT cost $1300 to buy 8 albums from the most popular band of the last 20 years
i know why this fan did it, because they are a fan and wants to listen to his favorite band on some wax... but that doesnt mean this should be the norm... and it definitely should not be acceptable to the fans...
And they will have to pay that amount again just to get Benaroya Hall...
I'd love to be able to buy them for £20 or so like you can with other bands. How I wish I'd been into vinyl 10 years ago and not just now (certainly when it comes to PJ vinyl)
