The Benny Album...My thoughts

I see where the 10club will be selling some of these albums(at flippers prices), at that 10club convention.
If it were me, if I was running that little outfit known as the 10club, I would go about it in a different way. Lets say there are 10 albums available, lets say they are $1000 each. So the 10club plans on making themselves $10,000 on these albums, correct?
Why not give the 1st 1,000 fan club members who send $10 for a raffle ticket, a chance to win the album? Why not give every 10club member 1 single opportunity to win the album? Why only allow the people who are able to attend the convention an opportunity to win what many of you consider, the Holy Grail of Pearl Jam merchandise? The 10club is still able to shove big money in their pockets, yet they give everyone a chance to win the album.
Does that make sense? Or no?

It does, except this (and the other unnamed, but "rare" and MAYBE never to be seen again stuff) is being used to lure more people in. It was clearly a marketing thing (they won't even name the price - if they said we're charging $1,000 - it wouldn't be a draw - but folks love a mystery even if it's answer has been strongly suggested).
The other thing is - your method doesn't only NOT elminate would be flippers, it encourages it.Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.0 -
It makes sense BUT people do not.
I read on here all the time about how the Benny is a 'holy grail' for this person, or 'holy grail' for that person. Heck, I know people that want to buy it and they don't even own a record player. What's the point?
It's a collectors item. The 10C understands this and is treating it as such. I can't afford $1000 anything right now. Especially a record. I would totally buy a raffle ticket and if I won, it would be played and never leave my family. However, the same can't be said for the guy standing behind me in line.0 -

The 10club is FLIPPING this album!
Right?
I dont wanna hear a damn thing about flippers.
When the 10club "sells" one of these albums for $750...Where is that money going? To the band?

If you produce something, you are not flipping it. They should reap the benefit of their work.
The band owns 10C. So, it's one pocket or another. Maybe, it causes them to pay less of the expenses of running the 10C. I don't know. None of my business. But, you are right. This has nothing to do with flippers.Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.0 -

Then I vote, they burn them. Light them on fire LIVE at the poster convention! It's a poster convention anyway, right? What's a record doing there?0 -
10c should donate the money to a charity like they have in the past (ex. pj20 colored vinyl)0

It does make sense. And I agree. If they do this, would it be possible if they exclude those 10club members who already own a copy? 10club knows who bought a copy through their store, via their data base. There's already a thread here on the Porch that say's who already owns a copy. Would be great for those that don't already own one have a chance to win one of these.0 -

Anyways, I just think allowing each 10club member 1 single opportunity to purchase a raffle ticket would be a better way to sell these albums. Hell, if they sell 2000 tickets at $20 a piece, then they can make HUGE MONEY!
And ALL the raffle tickets would sell.

10club doesnt give a shit about letting more fans have the chance at these. They want their money, and don't care how they get it. Chances are, if your lucky enough to get a Benny, you'll probably spend more. They know this, and are betting you wont get one but will settle for other merch in the process. Its win win for 10club here and we are the mindless sheep. I imagine a "black friday Wal-Mart scenerio" over at this convention this weekend. The mention of a Benny Hall being for sale is all it took for 10club to stir up interest in this event and people are traveling serious distances just for the chance.0 -

While your rants are always enjoyable to read, 2 things:
1) You picked up on what was basically an "aside" comment in my first post - As in - oh, BTW - instead of the main point.
2) Don't think for a second that I don't AGREE with your idea because I brought up a counter-point (and an aside) of what their reasoning might be. But, then again, I think they should do away with seniority at their shows, so everyone is on equal footing there, as well.
Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.0 -

It makes perfect sense...
But I think this is a marketing thing just to hausse the event...Give a monkey a brain and he'll swear he's the center of the Universe...0 -
Personally I don't understand the attraction of the album and honestly wouldn't pay 20 bucks for it unless I could sell it. There's really no album produced by anyone I would pay 20 bucks for. Just my opinion.0

i like the idea!!!SPEEDY is right..
why not to give a chance to more people instead of one person pay alot for it?"...Dimitri...He talks to me...'.."The Ghost of Greece..".

 I'm in.
And I also think people who already have one (or two  ) should be excluded. To me, it is not a collector's thing, I just want to listen to this album on vinyl. It's a shame that we "cheap" people don't have access to it.
Also, what is a hardcore fan? He must either live in Seattle, where the band doesn't play anymore, or be able to afford flying in for a poster convention on a Sunday. :nono:Please, Pearl Jam, consider a Benaroya Hall vinyl reissue! http://community.pearljam.com/discussion/148993/please-pearl-jam-consider-a-vinyl-benaroya-hall-re-issue0 -

The exclusivity of this record and the hugely inflated prices, which have done nothing but increase over the years, makes it the biggest money making item Pearl Jam has ever produced.
And they are well aware of that. Offering it to a small number of fans who happen to be fortunate enough to be able to attend seems a bit manipulative and very exclusionary.Nice shirt.0 -

If somebody already owns the album? Oh well, in my eyes they are also given the opportunity to purchase a chance to win the album.
EVERYBODY is given a fair chance.
2000 tickets at $20 a piece?
1000 tickets at $10 a piece?
3000 tickets at whatever a piece?
It doesnt matter, the tickets will sell over time.
The 10club makes their HUGE PROFIT, and each and every one of you are given a chance at the "Holy Grail".Take me piece by piece.....
