before this thread takes off into several directions i would just like to compliment Martha Raddatz on her moderating of the debate tonight. she asked both candidates tough questions and probed when necessary and she cut them off and changed direction when she thought it appropriate. much much better job than mr. lehrer last week.

Well that bar was not set high, but I thought this debate was fairly unwatchable for how much she let then talk over each other. Really, I have no idea why a moderator doesn't just say "shut up Biden, wait your turn you old fart" and vice versa for Ryan, minus the old fart part.

I cannot see how any side can say one side won. There were strong points on both sides.

I just watched the video and had much the same reaction.

Ryan debates well. He speaks well and presents himself well, but this is not a college debate class. With all due respect to the voice of a younger generation, I am far more comfortable having an experienced, knowledgeable VP than I would be with one who appears to me as a college level young man who speaks well but hasn't the knowledge and experience to back it. And his making a witty excuse for Romney's words regarding 47% of Americans was just flat out lame.

So it doesn't matter the actual experience, just being older is better huh?

Well shoot, man, I'm 61. Of course older is better.

No, seriously, it's the experience and knowledge that is important to me. Not only do I not care for Ryan's political views but he just doesn't come across as having the strength of experience for the job. And that doesn't just come with age. A younger candidate can show a sense of experience. In my opinion, Ryan doesn't have that.

I was just joking with you, you sounded like an old fart!

Like Romney, Ryan couldn't actually answer a question. Unlike Obama, Biden called him out on it.
Sadly, Biden looked more knowledgeable and more presidential than the president. :?

Yeah, that's exactly what the hacks on Fox News, Michael Steel and... um... nobody else is saying.

Everyone else is talking about how Paul Ryan thought he could lie about everything and Joe Biden smacked his ass down.

If you can't see how any side won, you either weren't watching or your nose just grew a quarter inch.

(Michael Steele's excuse is "we didn't prepare Paul for Joe laughing at him." I'm not making that up. "The laughter certainly was not something that we expected," Mitt Romney campaign token Michael Steel told Yahoo News after the debate.)

ryan said that roe v wade will be potentially overturned via legislation if they are elected. i think this is very dangerous ground romney and ryan are treading.

i think govts need to stay out of womens bodies. do not be telling us what we can and can not do with our own bodies. why do they insist on violating the sovereignty of womens bodies?? is it a power thing? do they feel the need to control the ultimate thing they can not? my body's nobody's body but mine so please all those people who feel the need to control my* body, please stay the fuck away. thank you.

  • it was cool when Paul Ryan said that "unelected judges" shouldn't ever decide about abortion.

A total lie, of course... Republicans have been working to get Roe V Wade to the Supreme Court for ages.

But it was still funny to see him try that shit. :fp:

Debates are important to crack the caricatures the media-academia-entertainment establishment have built up around the candidates.

Romney showed he was a man capable of being president.

Going in, I thought Biden was just an oaf, I'm glad he clarified for me that he's actually an ass.

Biden was annoying, disrespectful, and rambling most of the time. It was like watching Maury or Springer just annoying trying to listen to someone when someone else is talking over them. I do think Martha Raddatz should have stopped Biden from talking over Ryan so much. Seemed to me she dug at Ryan more. She never asked Biden to explain specifics as she did to Ryan. Hopefully Romney and Ryan can have a friend of there's mediate the next debate. :o

Not sure what debate some of you were watching but Ryan got his ass handed to him. Biden was disrespectful with the facial expressions, laughter and interruptions but, really, if Ryan can't do a better job than to keep repeating his talking points over and over again without elaboration or clarification then I would have been inclined to do the same thing. In some respects, I felt like Obama should have done the same thing to Romney but I believe that he was playing it safe. Let Biden nail these guys while Obama tries to rise above the fray. Not saying that it worked out well for him but I think that was the mentality that he had going in to the first debate. I will be interested to see the next presidential debate.
Are we getting something out of this all-encompassing trip?

It was Ryans first time on a national debate and to go up against Biden

  • How many times did Mit Romney interrupt the moderator in the presidential debate???

Funny how you republican supporters think it's ok when it's your boy but it's rude and disrespectful when its a democrat. Hypocrite much??
