Dunno, but I decided to turn it into a drinking/hitting the bowl thing.

(and am waaaay buzzed at the moment  )

Not to use the above as a disclaimer, but Biden's been acting like an ass.

Talking over your opponent? Over the moderator?

    C'mon, man.

Moderator's doing a nice job too.

    ouch...

very spirited debate tonight. ryan did a nice job on several questions, but i think the old man showed ryan how it is done. if obama had been 1/100th of a % as passionate in his debate as what biden was tonight i don't think the polls would even be close.

  • That was... wow.. That was almost cruel.

OK, yeah, I'm a total Partisan hack but Joe Biden didn't just hand him his ass, he tore it to shreds, pissed on it, picked it up off the floor, shoved it down his throat with a mallet and then pissed on it again.

    I'm exaggerating a bit.

But Paul Ryan got that "I'm fucked" look about halfway in. Then he just started to randomly spout out lie after lie, evade any questions about specifics and Uncle Joe called him on every one. That was a blood bath.

I don't think it's going to end the campaign right here... but it sure did fire up the base.

i agree. it wasn't pretty. biden came off as frustrated because he had to spend such a large part of his allotted time sifting through and correcting the BS that ryan was spouting. biden was VERY strong on foreign policy. he point blank asked ryan a few times "what would you guys do differently besides put american boots on the ground in syria?" and ryan could not answer. he also owned ryan on the iran and afghanistan situations. clear distinctions were drawn tonight. also, look out ladies, ryan essentially said that if they win roe v wade is in their sights...

I just watched the video and had much the same reaction.

Ryan debates well. He speaks well and presents himself well, but this is not a college debate class. With all due respect to the voice of a younger generation, I am far more comfortable having an experienced, knowledgeable VP than I would be with one who appears to me as a college level young man who speaks well but hasn't the knowledge and experience to back it. And his making a witty excuse for Romney's words regarding 47% of Americans was just flat out lame.

i agree. biden's experience was definitely apparent tonight. he clarified a lot of the justification behind obama's decisions on a lot of things that romney and ryan had continually been hitting obama for. biden pointed at ryan during the libya part and said that the gop was responsible for the lack of increased security on the embassy attacks, to which from what i recall, ryan had no counter to..

The cuts to embassy security did not take effect until Oct 1,2012. The RSO said the embassy asked the DoS for more security. Maybe the seniors at DoS did not tell the POTUS?

You got one thing right... You are partisan! ;)

I thought the debate sucked. Biden came across as a pompous grumpy old man that must practice facial expressions in the mirror and Ryan came across as a young, goofy, nerdy dude that you can't believe knows what he is talking about.

Makes me feel better about the presidential candidates, at least they aren't these guys!

Well I respectfully think you're totally wrong. Biden killed that.

Don't think it changes much, the vp debate is usually jut fodder.

But it felt great to have someone with actual numbers tell Paul Ryan in front of tens of millions of people he's full of crap.

    And this....

I didn't think there was a winner. Biden did a good job, much better than Obama.

To the folks who like Biden because of his experience, you do know that social security and Medicare are quickly approaching bankruptcy right? Biden said Medicare benefits have never been higher. How can you say that and be proud of it when you know Medicare is careening towards bankruptcy? Well, I am not going to vote for Biden who is going to do nothing to fix these programs. His experience is an experience of making the problem worse by not acting.

Well shoot, man, I'm 61. Of course older is better.

No, seriously, it's the experience and knowledge that is important to me. Not only do I not care for Ryan's political views but he just doesn't come across as having the strength of experience for the job. And that doesn't just come with age. A younger candidate can show a sense of experience. In my opinion, Ryan doesn't have that.

ryan said that roe v wade will be potentially overturned via legislation if they are elected. i think this is very dangerous ground romney and ryan are treading.

I liked when Biden was asked first about Libya he wound up in Iraq. WTF was he talking about?

before this thread takes off into several directions i would just like to compliment Martha Raddatz on her moderating of the debate tonight. she asked both candidates tough questions and probed when necessary and she cut them off and changed direction when she thought it appropriate. much much better job than mr. lehrer last week.

Well, shockingly msnbc says Biden won.

CNN however has a poll of viewers that had Ryan winning.

Well that bar was not set high, but I thought this debate was fairly unwatchable for how much she let then talk over each other. Really, I have no idea why a moderator doesn't just say "shut up Biden, wait your turn you old fart" and vice versa for Ryan, minus the old fart part.

I cannot see how any side can say one side won. There were strong points on both sides.

Like Romney, Ryan couldn't actually answer a question. Unlike Obama, Biden called him out on it.
Sadly, Biden looked more knowledgeable and more presidential than the president. :?

Yeah, that's exactly what the hacks on Fox News, Michael Steel and... um... nobody else is saying.

Everyone else is talking about how Paul Ryan thought he could lie about everything and Joe Biden smacked his ass down.

If you can't see how any side won, you either weren't watching or your nose just grew a quarter inch.

(Michael Steele's excuse is "we didn't prepare Paul for Joe laughing at him." I'm not making that up. "The laughter certainly was not something that we expected," Mitt Romney campaign token Michael Steel told Yahoo News after the debate.)
