Really?? So average Americans are paying 30% of their income to taxes, thus hindering their ability to afford a decent lifestyle, and hence sacrificing WAY more by paying those taxes, while filthy rich people are only paying 14% and not sacrificing anything when it comes to maintaining their lifestyle or being able to afford things? You don't understand how that matters? So the poor just get poorer, and rich keep getting richer, and that's fine?

yep, that's exactly what I said. :fp:

I'm 100% in favor of a flat income tax.
Oh... Sorry. I didn't get that AT ALL from your previous post... A flat rate is about the %.

Yeah, it's my bad, I should have added it. Because you are right, it is all about %. My point though is I don't think you can look at income tax % by itself. And I do think the amount people pay matters. I mean, what % of $ that Romney makes each year was already taxed once and it's just investment earnings, etc? I may be way off base though.

I think you need to protect investment earnings, while still figuring out how to make sure that the ones with all the $ now aren't the only ones really getting the benefit from that. I'd be fine with a set amount of investment earnings, etc per year that are not taxed or taxed VERY LITTLE. And then once you are above that, you pay a certain %.

It's a complicated subject and I'm an idiot today (I know, most days) and am having difficulty translating my thoughts into actual readable text. :?

Your point is valid that the system is broken. I mean, just look at how much money has to be raised to run for president!!! I'm just saying, there are a few other reasons that reasonable people would consider voting for Romney. Heck, #1 is that they just won't vote for the incumbent and the gov't gets it shit together.

sorry dude ... we've been through this i think plenty ... romney is a self-serving rich guy ... the guy has zero integrity and zero knowledge of things that matter ... he is the epitome of what is awful in politics ... voting for him because you don't like the other guy is akin to jumping off a cliff because you don't like the stairs ...

yes ... obama is not good ... but if people really want change - voting in this ahole is not gonna do it one bit ...

Hahahaha, I know but some new person may be reading today so I can;t let you get away with your bs. ;)

Oh, and before you reply, I'm joking about bs. It's just your point of view.

That's a good point with dividends taxation; dividends paid to individuals are double taxed (at corporate and indiv level). Romney's income is mostly capital gains, which is different. Whether or not capital gains are double taxed is a murkier issue, but I would imagine Bain's & Willard's accountants do a good job of avoiding that. ;)

Isn't this one of those things conservatives often complained about JFK- that he got elected on his good looks?

I realize it's hard for some people to believe that a man who managed to be a governor could be THIS out of touch, and therefore refuse to believe it, but I think that all signs point towards the fact that his brain is incapable of even grasping what being in touch with the average American is.
