already my album of the year... discovered this lot through Rock Sound Mag in UK, 2007. They had Ida called you Woody, Joe on some free cd... was hooked to it and fished out Sink or Swim... Was and remains in my top 10 albums of all time, such a special record. While the band have never been as heavy as on that record, they remain one of those few bands (like Pearl Jam) where you can feel the emotion in the songs.
American Slang was a big let down for me and rarely gets played, though a few tacks make it on to my mixed playlist for them, Handwritten though is a beauty!!!! MORE PEOPLE NEED TO DISCOVER THIS BAND
Nice playlist to get into them

I have the itunes deluxe edition which also has another song in addition to those 3, Teenage Rebellion.
Watched the live chat with Brian today was pretty cool. Someone asked him the coolest celebrity he met and he said Eddie (and Lars). Said sometimes you talk to someone famous and you can tell they arent listening. He said eddie was very engaged and really down to earth. He also said he has a room where he does a lot of writing and on the wall is a picture of Eddie singing in front of Roger Daultry I think, and how for him, he sees eddie there singing with one of his idols in the background and how looking at eddie on the wall makes him think, "would eddie Approve of this" or something like that.
Cant say enough about this record, its unreal.0 -
love love love this album. Handwritten, Keepsake, Too Much Blood are my favorites right now. I've been a huge Gaslight fan since I heard 59 Sound when it first came out. This album has really put this band over the top for me.PLAY THE SOUTH0

GREAT album!! These guys just keep getting better. Bummed that I can't see them live at Lolla or Riot Fest...they'll be in Chicago twice within a month and I can't go to either. Ahh well...hopefully they'll play a proper show soon...0

Any love for the horrible crowes?0

still waiting for the music stores in Brisbane to get the deluxe version in- there has been a delay. Refuse to listen to it until I have the CD in hand.
Like Solace23 mentioned...if you haven't checked out Brian Fallon's side project " The Horrible Crowes", have a listen to their album "Elsie". VERY good album- similar to Gaslight sound, but not as full of a sound. Blood Loss is one of my fav songs by any band- LOVE itI'll ride the wave where it takes me

Handwritten was the first album I've listened to by this band and I must say I didn't like it one bit. Very standard and bland to my ears. Maybe this wasn't the best place to start with them but seeing as people are really enjoying it maybe it doesn't matter so much. Maybe I'll try again some other time.0

Handwritten is so much better than American Slang. I like the whole 'big sounding' production. Their music is made for it. I don't mind that their sound hasn't changed all that much. Brian Fallon is becoming sort of a genius songwriter.0

Last night was the Handwritten release show and it was incredible. They played 8 songs off Handwritten- 45, Handwritten, Here Comes My Man, Mulholland Drive, Keepsake, Too Much Blood, Howl & Mae. Around 26 songs in total with most of the material coming from Sink Or Swim, 59 Sound & Handwritten. The new songs sound huge live and the band although playing some of them for the first time sounded very tight. The band played without a barricade; Crowd surfing was intense to see from the balcony during some songs. Show was very intimate and Brian talked about Handwritten being number 1 on the itunes charts and thanked the fans for allowing them the opportunity to do this for a living and for letting them quit their day jobs years ago without ever looking back. Rumors are that a Northeast tour is coming in November.

Listened to the album twice on Spotify yesterday.
I really like it!
I hope they tour and that i can get a ticket!
I thought it was kinda weird that they had 2 covers on the album. I like the covers, but I always thought that this kind of relsease should always be new music...
I also caught that live video stream of Brian playing and answering questions. Very cool! It totally inspired me and I am not actually thinking about going to an open mic night...2003: 7/14 NJ ... 2006: 6/1 NJ, 6/3 NJ ... 2007: 8/5 IL ... 2008: 6/24 NY, 6/25 NY, 8/7 EV NJ ... 2009: 10/27 PA, 10/28 PA, 10/30 PA, 10/31 PA

What is with the dislike of American Slang by many fans? I love all gaslight and american slang is no worse or better to me then any other album. IN fact it has a couple of my favourite songs of theirs (We did when young and Old Haunts).
Just wondering why those who don't like it, don't?0 -

I think American Slang was great, particularly Boxer, Diamond Street, We Did it When Were Young. However it was no '59 Sound. That record was so good it was hard to follow with anything. Expectations were probably too high from fans."All I Ever Knew" available now in print and digital formats at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and iBooks.0 -

i agree its not a bad album. To me the highlights would be Stay Lucky, and The Queen of Lower Chelsea. To me, and alot of people 59 sound was just so revelatory. So cool sounding. I just love the anthemic, lets all join together and sing at the top of our lungs quality to that album. But I think American Slang sort of differed from that a little, and wasnt as good as 59 sound. I just think they set the bar so high with 59 sound, and alot of people didnt think that American Slang was able to equal it0 -
