    ...
My friends/co-workers have Girl Scout sign up sheets. I end up with a few boxes.
I like the Lorna Doone-esque cookies with coffee in the morning.
    ...
I haven't seen Girl Scouts going door to door. They usually crop up at all of the supermarkets, Target Stores and (the smart ones) camp out in front of the coffee shops.

I haven't had a scout come to the door in a few years... perhaps that is not done
    as frequently now

much easier to camp out or have parents sell at work

I love the Tea cookies but don't buy them cause I do!

and I had no idea about the lard thing... one would think they would offer
    a choice without ... a healthy choice.

Girl Scout cookies are on the way...
I think that is one door most are going to happily answer

I never get them or any of the school fundraising door to door...usually see them a the store.

They came to my door last week.I was expecting a visitor so opened the door all smiles expecting it to be them, instead two recruiters for Jesus standing there like smiling assassins. The book was concealed, they thanked me for being home on such a cold day :wtf: Then turned the book around,I immediately said no and slammed the door.
I don't go knocking on their door with Darwin's The Origin of Species so I DO NOT expect them to come to my door with their religious propaganda.

I am thinking of getting a door plague that says "Atheist residency No God Bother'ers need knock"

No... In the story of Job, he kills everything that he loves to show his love for the blood-thirsty Christian god.

    Nobody intervenes.

In the story of Job, SATAN kills everyone that Job loves (and worse), and yet Job remains faithful to God. Really not very close at all to what you said.

I always just say, "oh, no thank you. I'm a practicing atheist (true)", and they NEVER keep trying with a proud atheist. We are lost causes I guess. And no unpleasantness ensues.
side note: I recently read that this study found that Americans trust atheists less than convicted sex offenders. And the religious right complains that THEY are being discriminated against. That is so f'd up!

Unless by the first "he" POD means Satan. then its a whole another story. Then your saying Satan is doing the dirty work for God of which by POD would refer to Satan's enslavement to the Creator, then you can get into a whole bunch of stories of why Satan, the hierarchy of angels or beings want to rule the world so on and so forth.

However, interestingly in the story of Job how quickly his "brothers and sisters" abandon him and give him no help. What does that say about mankind, too?

There is nothing wrong with people wanting to be atheist. And if you look upon the theories of atheism they actually can be spiritual in nature. The understanding of "God" does not necessarily have to come directly from religion. I know an extreme environmentalist (an atheist) who feels the passion and oneness with the planet and thus his crusade to save it. His being deep seated within the Creation of the planet Earth itself, is it not the same? Though he is not directly expressing a vow to any prophet or religion he does commune and understand the importance of brotherhood, peace and expresses viable love for the planet. So tell me if he is not sitting down talking to a member of clergy about God does it mean he is Godless? Maybe his expression or feeling is different than yours.

    You must respect that.

I was just surprised about the study :o
  • I understand that, it was just easier than scrolling up to put my response in...so I grabbed your post because I was going to respond to that next and seen you had put your 2 cents in while doing my last post on Job. Believe me, its not all about you.

    nor you ;)
  • Its never about me, believe me. Nor do I pretend it to be. Nor would I ever force my way into the ideas or consciousness someone of either. I might get angry at the pricks that force themselves upon another or warn you of your possible misgivings, but its never about me.
