I guess we will just have to agree to disagree. I know that things are tough all over the world. It is not good to see any country struggle. It makes it hard on the people who live there. I do feel bad for the current situation in the world. I don't know what you have to do to earn a living but you have no idea what I do either. I have spent many years to get into the position I am. It was a long and sometimes very hard road. The point being is that we ALL do what we have to do to make sure we can enjoy the band. If someone wants an easier route then I can't fault them but I refuse to agree with them. I just have always taken care of whatever I needed to do to make sure I can get what I want. If some folks don't want to do that then that is their call.
Well said 78FLH. Some people just want to look for the easy way out in life. I think we are a dying breed, those willing to do what it takes to achieve their goals. It's a shame too, because when people get lazy and are looking for the easy way, it leads to bad economic situations like in Greece. I don't know if it is the language barrier or if dimitrispearljam doesn't understand that connection. Taking from some to make life easier for others is never a good idea. Eventually there will be nobody left to take from, and everyone will have their hand out. That is the connection to the 10C ticket lottery. It would take from those willing to work the current system and give to those who want life to be “fast and easy”. It just seems we have different goals when it comes to 10C tickets. Some want "fast and easy", I want 10C tickets. I don't care how much time or effort it requires. I’m not going to complain or make excuses; I’m just going to work until I get what I want. And if the day ever comes where I don’t score 10C tickets, I’ll scalp them from one of the increased number of scalpers a lottery would invite. The high ticket price I am able and willing to pay would only invite more people to enter the lottery and scalp, and would ironically make the lottery odds even worse.
i have a very bad day at work..(yes,we work in Greece..)
for answer to the insolting comments about my country and nation in general..
cos my opinion of a presale tickets for a concert of a rock band ,seems that provoke that all Greeks are lazy and want fast and easy things in life..
ill say only this...im fuckin proud that im Greek...
as for the topic...i still believe lottery is fair fast and easy as a presale of a tix for a concert should be..
no reason to be a torture...
and at this point,im pretty sure now, that some people with no serious argument but they like this torture must had "methods" to get tickets always, and this is unfair for the rest of the members..
great job 10club..from now on they cant do that..cos they dont have this "power" anymore..

Why do you keep talking about this power? I understand that some countries don't have fast/reliable internet or other technologies and I feel for you. But with all the technology out there, I can't stand to see anyone utilizing strategies from 1996 to get concert tix for a show in 2012.

if i want, ill be in the venue...but,i dont like angry, dissapointed people cos of a wrong ,broken system..i tried with both systems to buy tix..
was so easy to see the difference..
Sorry to hear about your bad day, based on world news I suspect things are difficult over there right now.
BUT, this is false dichotomy. There are other possibilities besides the F5 disaster or the lotto. For example, using the Ticketmaster presale that work very for the 2011 Canadian shows. That would provide the easy ticket purchasing that some people want with the 'you gotta earn it' aspect that others do. That solution would be easy to implement and painless for the 10c and it's members (other than having to use TM).

I’ve conceded that a lottery is fast and easy, so you can stop repeating that. Most things in life are not better when they are fast and easy. Take for example food, McDonald’s is “fast and easy”, does that mean you should eat there 3 times a day every day? Or should you put in the effort of shopping, and cooking something healthy? What is better for the person in the long run?
A lottery would be torture… Letting your fate up to some random odds… Giving up all control to create the illusion of fairness to the ignorant? Now it all comes out, someone has something that you want… You call it “power” in this case. Maybe I do have a method to always get tickets, maybe I don’t. If I do, I’ve earned it, and so can anyone else who wants it bad enough. But you want to take from the have’s and give to the have not’s, that is socialism. I’ll repeat the comparison, because it’s crystal clear yet again. You think the way you do because you live in a European welfare state. I’m sorry if that is insulting, but it’s the truth. Apparently in your world Greece is perfect and to even think otherwise is an insult to Greece. That much is obvious from your response. I think America is the best country in the world, but it is by no means perfect. We have plenty of problems, and I can accept this fact. I’m not going to get insulted because someone points out one of our problems.
This is going nowhere, I put together rational and well thought out arguments, and all I get in return is emotional non-sense. I look at the impacts of a lottery beyond the on sale date, and I get “fast and easy” in return. I realize that there is a language barrier here, but I am starting to think that is not as big a part of it as I once did.
This thread is utter nonsense. Everyone hates the ticket process and they want it with a mail in lottery or through ticketmaster. Then they realize ticketmaster still sux. Then they got shut out of the lottery for a show that had about 200 pairs per show and then they blame the lottery and want the old process back.

I agree, but that hasn’t been the point of the discussion. All we know are the current system and the lottery. Obviously the current system is much better than a lottery, although I think there are definitely improvements that can be made. I disagree that the current (F5) method is a disaster. It’s gotten the tickets in the hands of the fans that wanted them the most. That’s the best case scenario.
My favorite part of this thread is that making bizarre declarations like "I work harder than 99% of you!" supposedly constitutes a rational and well-thought argument.
The lottery is not perfect but it is an improvement. I'd much rather see the servers fixed, full tours with many more tickets available, and staggered on-sale dates. But if none of that is on the horizon then the lottery is fine by me.
Again, good job 10C for trying something different.

Ticketmaster does not suck. They are the industry leaders at what they do. They are a tad monopolistic though.

They did a great job with the Canadian pre-sale in 2011. They did a terrible job with the Eddie solo sale in some places earlier that year. Can we be sure TM would work? No. I wouldn't mind giving them another chance, though to be sure.

Ticketmaster blows. Of course they worked for the Canada tours, there isn't as big of a demand. Anyone who wants ticketmaster in charge of the 10 Club tickets is crazy. No thank you.

You may not be aware of this, but Ticketmaster successfully handles tickets for acts with far greater demand than Pearl Jam. I don't like them as a corporation, but their system is the best in the business and I really think it's silly and wasteful for the 10c to keep trying to reinvent the wheel so a few fans can keep pretending it's 1995.

I'd agree with this and if I recall correctly they were used as part of the 2004 VFC tour. Every 10c member got a unique code to buy tickets via TM. They handle the volume (no server issues) and it is not a lottery (control your own destiny - which some have pointed out as their preference). I can appreciate the non (or minimal) TM stance the 10c has taken given the band's history, but given how everything else has changed I think it would be received positively.

My favorite part is when JimmyV picked one small piece out of one post and tried to make a point with it that made no sense. [sarcasm]Yes, that was the basis of all arguments, and nothing else was posted. Pages and pages of replies, and that is the only argument anyone made against the lottery [/sarcasm] Had you actually read the posts, you would have noticed that comment was in response to being called lazy for sitting in an office all day. It was meant to point out that although I am extremely busy, I still make time for things that are important to me, and I don’t make excuses. But hey… your reality is great too!

I don't want them anywhere near the 10 club allotment and the 10 Club doesn't either. It will always be in house so really your only options are the way it was or the lottery. Sorry. I have no problem with public sales.

Exactly. When technology keeps advancing and you are still trying to fight that, you need to admit you have a problem.

Why use a fax machine when you have email?
Technology isn't their problem, especially because ticketmaster also has hackers that bust their system. No matter how advanced your technology is, there are always hackers one step ahead of you. If they can make money off of these hacks it makes it even more dangerous. This is the reason I believe PJ is going to stick with the lottery. It will be more work for them but they can do it without hackers f'ng up their system and can allocate tickets without hassle. It makes it a smoother process for everyone.
I could be wrong and they could go back to having them online. I just don't see how it benefits them in any way. I wouldn't use the Ed tour as an example because there are far fewer seats available for those shows and I'd say there were far fewer complaints than say the Alpine and Canada complaints.

I've read your posts. It is a point you have made repeatedly, in this and other threads. If you are going to make declarations like that -- when you know almost nothing about what anyone else does for work or how they live their lives -- you should be prepared to be called out on it.
And if my point didn't make sense to you, well, maybe you should go back to school and better yourself. That is your advice to others, is it not?

Kelly Curtis stated in his online chat Q & A after the "sabotage" debacle that the band has no problem working with Ticketmaster in the future. They have moved on.

not for 10 Club allocations. This was already talked about on the radio show. They can't see any situation that would take the 10 club allocation out f house.
Ticketmaster gets hacked also. Scalpers get access to the tickets minutes before fans and if you don't think those presale codes get in their hands you are crazy. there are plenty of scalpers in the 10 Club.
The lottery is by far the safest and hassle free way for the 10 Club to do the 10 Club allotment and then the leftover tickets and public sale through TM.

"...I changed by not changing at all..."
Kelly Curtis stated in his online chat Q & A after the "sabotage" debacle that the band has no problem working with Ticketmaster in the future. They have moved on.
"...I changed by not changing at all..."
not for 10 Club allocations.
