I've read your posts. It is a point you have made repeatedly, in this and other threads. If you are going to make declarations like that -- when you know almost nothing about what anyone else does for work or how they live their lives -- you should be prepared to be called out on it.
You obviously don’t read and comprehend what others post, so I could understand why you don’t have an idea of what people do. I guess you’ve also never met a 10C member randomly in your day to day life? We also know that since the current 10C ticket system takes effort, you’ve probably never had 10C tickets, and never gotten to mingle with other 10C members at a concert. Granted, not all 10C members post here, and I did specifically refer to “people on this board”. Let’s face it… This board is not filled with Brain Surgeons. You can't really argue that.

I find it really tough to find time to come on this board, and I occasionally pop in for a quick distraction from the work day. I’m on the razors edge of not coming to the board at all due to time constraints. There are long gaps sometimes when I don’t sign on at all. So it’s very easy to imagine that any PJ fan busier than me, with more responsibility than me, wouldn’t post on this board. Given that this is a fact which I know with certainty… that would make my comment very true. Granted, I’m sure there are some very successful and busy people on this board, and there probably is someone even more so than me... hence why I didn’t say 100%. My comment that you “called me out” on is pretty much spot on.

Again, I don’t understand your point. How would going back to school, taking time out of my extremely lucrative career, to get yet ANOTHER advanced degree help me to make sense of your flawed logic?

For someone who claims to be “on the razors edge of not being able to come here at all” and who “works harder than 99%” of the rest of us, you do seem to find the time to argue on this board quite a bit. And before you pat yourself on the back for your brilliant time management skills or lofty position in life or whatever else is coming next, please understand that it does make you seem quite disingenuous.

    To your points…

I read (and comprehend) just fine, thank you. Which is how I know that telling others they need to “better themselves” by going back to school is a recurring theme in your posts. We both know you knew that was my point but on the very slim chance you did not…well…perhaps your own comprehension skills really are in need of improvement.

I’ve met plenty of 10C members at shows, gatherings, and pre-parties. Sometimes we’ve discussed careers and sometimes we haven’t. But at no point after meeting a fellow member has it crossed my mind to consider whether or not I work harder than that person. I find it very strange that you seem so fascinated by it. Again, this is a recurring theme in your posts and, again, it makes you come across as someone trying to be something they are not. Declaring it so brazenly is, as I wrote earlier, bizarre.

I’ve had my share of 10C tickets. What was it I wrote that convinced you otherwise? Or was that just you playing the straw man game and pretending that anyone who could possibly disagree with you about the ticket system must never have had any success with that system?

Let’s get one thing straight, you are the one fixated on this. I made simple point that I have a very busy career and still find time, and don’t make excuses. As for how much time I spend on this board in discussion, it’s very sporadic. You assume that I am here often, yet I only average 0.21 posts per day (PPD), mostly in spurts with dry spells in between. Meanwhile you average 1.55 PPD, to give you some perspective. That means you post 7.32 times more often than I do.

People can better their situations in many ways, you focused on going back to school, not me. People’s behaviors are a function of the reinforcement they receive, and I’d rather reinforce that people can work hard to achieve their goals, rather than do nothing and possibly get lucky in a lottery.

As previously mentioned, you are the one fascinated by this tiny little point in one or two of my posts. It has only come up in the context that if I can make time to get 10C tickets, anyone can. Why is it so hard to believe that I have a demanding career with a lot of responsibility? It’s bizarre how you fixate on that one part of the discussion.

Back to reading comprehension. It was a tounge in check comment used to make some points. And yes, one of those points was that people who are for the lottery probably have not had success with the current ticket system. As has been shown by myself and others, success in the current system is directly related to the amount of effort put in. It was also an explanation for how someone could not have an idea about the demographic of this board. It blows my mind that someone who spends more time than me (a factor of 7+) on this board, and has been to concerts in 10C seats, and met 10C members in their day to day lives, doesn’t really learn anything from those situations. I hope you never have to interview and hire someone, it’s just not your strength.

I got every ticket I wanted with the old system excluding last time. I don't like the lottery. :(

Tried to send you this as a PM but unfortunately you don’t allow them. Too bad. This is my final word on the subject. Feel free to get in whatever last word you wish. I’ve spent too much time on this already.

Listen, MG. I don’t know you. You don’t know me. Neither of us knows what the other does for work or for pleasure (other than loving Pearl Jam). But I have seen you around the board, and whether it was disputing the length of Mansfield III, or spouting birther nonsense, or being asked questions you could not answer by Go Beavers, one thing I noticed is that your posts are always lengthy. (Mine rarely are, this thread being the obvious exception.) This is the end result of constantly arguing as you were in all those threads, and is the point I was making in that you do seem to have quite a bit of free time. Is it sporadic? If you say so, sure. Is it a consistent pattern? Absolutely.

On the 99% comment, I’m willing to bet if I had the time or the inclination to look back through your .21 posts per day (today I have neither – you aren’t the only one who is busy) I’d find that little tidbit has been tossed out far more often than the one or two times you claim it has. I’d bet, as I said, it would prove to be a recurring theme. This is why I wrote my original post. You can claim I am fixated on it and that I ignored the context and whatever else, but the fact is the rest of your long-winded diatribes just did not interest me. Been there, done that.

Also, your comment about me never having had 10C tickets was quite definitely you trying to argue with a straw man rather than a real person. Again, it is something I have seen you do before. There was nothing tongue in cheek about it. Claiming otherwise is further proof to me that you are being dishonest, and makes it that much harder to believe anything you say.

Your last point about my interview skills makes absolutely no sense and is irrelevant to this discussion anyway, so I will ignore it. As for me interacting on the boards or in person with fellow members and not learning anything, you are again way off the mark and misunderstanding why I challenged your 99% claim originally. It isn’t that I don’t get a sense of what people do or who they are, it is that I am not busy calculating who works less than I do or who contributes less than I do. I’ve only interacted with a tiny percentage of Ten Club members. (I’m sure you haven’t met that many more.) I’m in no position to know who works harder than the vast super-majority of other members and neither are you. It does not make me less observant than you. It makes me less arrogant than you.

Despite whatever delusions of grandeur go on in your head, know this: You are just another guy wasting time on a message board. No more, no less. If it makes you happy to think there is some magical top 1% of Ten Club members and that you are fully ensconced within it, go right ahead. With my blessing, even. Just know that I will always see you as someone overcompensating for something by trying to be something they are not.

Best of luck to you in future lotteries,

    JimmyV

  • I agree with JimmyV. My father in law has begged me to come down to Myrtle Beach to help with his pool cleaning business. He makes over $100,000 a year and has a close to 1 million dollar house and has no employees. If I went down there and helped him I'd make that money and then wouldn't have time to access a computer at 2pm on a Wednesday. Would I have to then better myself because I can't have access to a computer during the weekday in the afternoon or work in an office?

For a happily married man to become a "pool boy" in a sun filled myrtle beach area where women's husbands are just "not around" sounds very risky!!:lol:
