I"m thinking of just getting that done and then doing the rest myself to save some cash.
To the best of my knowledge, Michael's and Hobby Lobby only offer the 50 percent off on the full custom-framing package.
If you want individual things, it's at the normal cost.
I do know that at my local Michael's and Hobby Lobby stores, Hobby Lobby will custom-cut mats for me without making me purchase the full framing package (at their normal price, of course). Michael's does not do that.
That way, if you want to save money on the frame or the backing or whatever, you could go in and have a mat cut to fit in a "standard" frame size, and then just buy a cheaper frame yourself."Tried to walk, found a severed ... Matt???"0 -
I haven't had any of my posters framed yet..i have many. Should I frame them with similar frames and matings so they can be grouped together...or use a frame and a mating which enhances the poster? Any suggestions? What have other people done...which looks better?

homer19 wrote:i have about 15 posters i would like to store in an art presentation case or portfolio. can anyone point me to a post that outlines some recommendations on the best ways to do this? basically, I want to know:
a) brands of presentation cases & companies that sell them
b) type of sleeves to store posters
c) should i use anything in addition to the sleeves to help protect the posters until i get them framed? i.e.- "framing corners" or something to prevent posters from adhereing to the sleeves
thanks for anyone's help...61 pages of posts in this thread is a lot to dig through, but i'm getting started!
I just recently bought a portolio and archival sleeves. The portfolio is made by Itoya theres 48 pages that are 18x24" the pages are all acid free, it was 60$ Can. For the posters that were bigger than that i bought individual acid free archival sleeves, they are not Mylar but similar and can be sealed and unsealed a few times.http://www.expressobeans.com/trader.php?id=whistle55&view=4

You might consider doing both. On one wall of my music room I have three posters that are framed with similar metal frames (slightly different colors to enhance the posters). On the other walls I have pictures and posters in frames that are very unique to each.

I"m thinking of just getting that done and then doing the rest myself to save some cash. And also stay away from Michael's, period. Way overpriced, even with the 50% deals.
Check out http://www.americanframe.com for everything. From start to finish, you should, in theory, be able to get everything for under $40 per poster. You'll be getting acrylic (plexi-glass) instead of regular glass (too cost-inefficient to ship), but they have acid-free products and UV acrylic. All you need to preserve and protect, and they have a LOT of options. I cannot praise them enough*Rock and/or Roll!*0 -

I just ordered material for my NJ 2 poster, with 1 matte, cheaper frame and it came to $45 with shipping. Still a great deal, though your gonna pay more if you want multiple mattes and uv protecting plexiglass. And so you see, I have come to doubt

I dont like the thin frame look at all. It looks weird with the wide mat. Just my opinion but I like the thicker frames much more. It looks like you bought a $5 walmart frame and spent $40 on a mat. Nice mats though, except for the white mat. Yuck....0

And white mat is clean, and doesn't detract from the poster art.*Rock and/or Roll!*0 -
