I disagree, I thought it kicked butt when Petty played.Tres Mts- 3/16/2011

+1:roll: The Who did none of this. Why would PJ?
And I'm guessing 20 years before, folks said they wouldn't do it either.
Who cares what Cobain thinks? His judgment obviously wasnt too good.
It would be cool, but I dont care either way. When there's someone I want to see, I pay attention. When there's not, I dont. Free will and all. You know?
Ed could do that thing with the guitar and spotlight and shine it all through the crowd and Mike could do laps around the stage like he did in Chicago 2010 8-)0 -

I just hope it never happens.

I do think if they ever decided to do the Super Bowl half time show-
everyone would be excited and trying to get tickets...
I would want 10c tickets for this only if I got to be one of these kids during the National Anthem.
During the anthem, I'd be the kid with his eyes closed next to Kelly Clarkson...
That kid was interviewed after the anthem and he said he smelled a very heavy presence of tuna. It was blinding his eyes."Honesty will always be construed as negative to a dumbass"

I think that just furthers my point.
All I'm saying is they've collaborated with Target and Ticketmaster.
What's the big deal if they play the superbowl?0 -
I still believe everyone here will watch it and be psyched...

when was the last time a performer/band really benefited from the 15mins of exposure during the SuperBowl...
hasn't been any benefit to the last 5 as far as I can tell...
Madonna...over-the-top lip-synching
Black Eyed Peas...like the majority of reviews, I agree that this was pretty unspectacular
the Who....the sound quality killed this one...showed their age as well
Springsteen...got to admit, not bad. But, what did he gain? A few sales on iTunes? He seems better than that.
Tom Petty...zzzzzz. Same ol. same ol...& I LIKE Petty
the last good one was Prince & he didn't exactly light up the Soundscan charts after it either...but it was a pretty solid performance. Rain & all
it all seems like a huge money grab to me.....just my opinion though
& yes I would watch PJ do it, but I'd still feel a little sad insidePost edited by pjradio on

That wasn't really a Target commercial per say...
It was really a commercial for Backspacer that was being sold at Target or on itunes.
As bad as that "video" was, at least there was a reason behind it.
I don't think Pearl Jam would ever play the SB. It just doesn't seem like their bag.
Besides, who would want to see a bunch of radio singles crow-barred together for a 15 minute set.
I think Prince and Petty both have a better catalog for a "hit and run" kind of show...
Just my 2 cents.

After watching that terrible "performance" by Madonna I would NEVER want PJ to perform the superbowl.
That entire show was just an overproduced waste. 99.9% of the talent in that performance was everyone except Madonna. PJ doesn't do stupid circus act shows like this, so performing at the super bowl would be too "boring" for the general sheep. And if they did turn it into a circus act, they would be complete sellouts.
Im not the type to call out a band for selling out, didn really care about the target deal, but PJ+super bowl= sellout.5/28/06, 6/27/08, 10/28/09, 5/18/10, 5/21/10

I think the NFL has more say, in the "show" aspect of it, than PJ would be comfortable with.
That's all.

I'm pretty sure the artist doesn't produce the half-time performance. In other words, PJ probably wouldn't have a lot of say in how much of a circus the show turned out to be.
I'm surprised that more people don't agree that the Super Bowl is completely not PJ's thing.1998-06-30 Minneapolis

the people concerned that if PJ played the SB they would have rappers and dancers and backup singers on stage must not have watched the superbowl with Tom Petty...... a great band doesnt need all that crap and Pearl Jam certainly wouldnt want it.
The reason they have to have 9 different entertainers (not musicians) on stage for one halftime show is because it takes 9 of them to add up to 1 actual good band....... if even.
With that said, I dont want Pearl Jam to play the SB.........because you have to be a sellout to accept that offer.RC, SoDak 1998 - KC 2000 - Council Bluffs IA 2003 - Fargo ND 2003 - St. Paul MN 2003 - Alpine Valley 2003 - St Louis MO 2004 - Kissimmee FLA 2004 - Winnipeg 2005 - Thunder Bay 2005 - Chicago 2006 - Grand Rapids MI 2006 - Denver CO 2006 - Lollapalooza 2007 - Bonnaroo 2008 - Austin City Limits 2009 - Los Angeles 2009 - KC 2010 - St Louis MO 2010 - PJ20 Night 1 - PJ20 Night 20
