Didn't this topic come up on the All Encompassing Trip last year? I think it was one of the January 2011 shows and Tim Bierman pretty much said it was ludicrous, but he did say "never say never..."
McCartney was a Beatle....nuff said
The Who sounded terrible & they said so: "Daltrey says, "It didn't even feel like a concert. It's a television show. And what can you do in twelve minutes?"
He continued, admitting that the show could have gone better, "Cameras were everywhere, I was so blinded that I couldn't see.
Springsteen did ok....but what did he gain?
agree to disagree
Not sure what the Beatle thing is meant since they basically laid the road map, but ok.
And, why does something have to be gained? Don't you just do stuff in life for the experience? Why can't they? Being big sports fans, I am sure they watch the SB. So, why not be a part of it. Do your best with the conditions handed to you, and who knows? '
So, The Who didn't sound great and it could have been better - so what?
I don't care if they do it or not. I just don't get this like many threads where the fans tell the band what to do. If they don't feel like doing it, great. If they feel like doing it - I hope they are asked some day. None of it helps my kids' school grades. So, why do I care either way?
As long as they keep putting out good music and touring, I don't care if they open for Justin Bieber.... (Ok. I may have gone too far ).
Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.
They would never play in the Super Bowl until it is off US Soil
/rimshot.
No really, I dont have an opinion either way. Part of me hopes when it gets announced it will be Pearl Jam... but I also strongly understand and agree with 'protecting' the legacy of the band from that. It never seems to come across well.... Although Petty and U2 were amazing IMO. McCartney was good too. The Who and Bruce came across rough and hokey IMO.

I think people are talking about 2 different things now. No one's saying the band couldn't play the Super Bowl if they wanted to (I mean really, how could anyone stop them anyway?). What I think some of us are saying is that with all we know about PJ, the band's politics and personalities, (1) would playing the Super Bowl fit with their legacy and (2) would the band even consider doing it in the first place?
My argument is that playing the Super Bowl doesn't fit with PJ's legacy and that the band (Ed in particular) would not want any part of something like that. I don't think it matters whether the band could "do stuff just for the experience"; that's really not the point. The issues that people have with PJ playing the Super Bowl deal more with what I've outlined above.
But again, that's just my opinion. Who knows? I could be wrong.
Anyway, I too agree with this:

I'll sign the petition as long as they play the Super Bowl Halftime Show drunk ..... like they did for the 'Singles' release promotional party back in '92.
No million dollar stage set-up, extravagant costumes, outrageous light show ... just a simple stage and PJ.
Now that would be entertaining and something to see (definitely better than sitting thru another boring lip-synced performance by Madonna). And who wouldn't love to see Eddie staring into the camera and repeatedly screaming "F@%k NBC ... berating the crowd, excutives and government officials..... while destroying the stage. :P

I could be wrong but I believe that they're having multiple performers for the halftime show this time around since its SB50. So maybe PJ25 can be a part of SB50.. (Clever, right)

6. Pearl Jam: Now this would be a show-stopper! There's no doubt that the legendary rock band would bring the house down jamming out (ha, sorry, had to!) the likes of Coldplay. We're pretty willing to place our bets on Eddie Vedder knocking it out of the park alongside Martin and an entire stadium of diehard football fans singing along.
It would be great if for no other reason than to watch the meltdown on this website.
In the end, who cares. If it's something they do and folks don't like it, oh well. Agreeing 100% with anything that a band, organization, political party etc, isn't some requirement to enjoy or agree with MOST of what they do or say.

I'll say it. Never.
What is "the All Encompassing Trip"?
hehehehe
I'm with you on that, I love drumlines and think how cool it would be for a high school or college band to play the superbowl
i know...just making a joke...
