I don't think they've done anything of value for 10ish years, but the first three songs on the Joshua Tree are as good as any opening 3, ever.Believe me, when I was growin up, I thought the worst thing you could turn out to be was normal, So I say freaks in the most complementary way. Here's a song by a fellow freak - E.V0

U2 has done more for good causes around the globe than ANY world leader has in the last 20 years. They do it because they came from lesser lives and struggled to make it where they are today. They've worked hard and became extremely successful, and now they use that success as an outlet for creating awareness for causes we, the public, might not have been aware of. Some people just like to hate on what's popular. I'm not as into U2 as I once was, but the insults/hatred thrown towards them is really baffling. If you don't like them just don't listen...what's the point of creating a thread to say the most popular rock band in the world is overblown because a lot of people went to their concerts? There are obviously a lot of big U2 fans on this board. It's like some people think it's cool to hate U2.2003: San Antonio, Houston, Dallas, Seattle; 2005: Monterrey; 2006: Chicago 1 & 2, Grand Rapids, Cleveland, Detroit; 2008: West Palm Beach, Tampa; 2009: Austin, LA 3 & 4, San Diego; 2010: Kansas City, St. Louis, Columbus, Indianapolis; 2011: PJ20 1 & 2; 2012: Missoula; 2013: Dallas, Oklahoma City, Seattle; 2014: Tulsa; 2016: Columbia, New York City 1 & 2; 2018: London, Seattle 1 & 2; 2021: Ohana; 2022: Oklahoma City0 -

Im no U2 basher, I just mearly wanted to point out the fact that at the Melb 06 concert Bono overstood the gapping line beween raising awareness and dictatorship! And having since spoken to a lot of friends who where at that show, I realise im not alone.( anyone else from that show who would like to comment most welcome).
Lets face it, listening to music and going to see a band play music that you enjoy is a very special personal experience and if that band wants to raise awareness about something they believe strongly in that’s fine… but after EVERY song and with graphic footage of starving, diseased and dying children (on a 60ft screen) during some of the songs was a little confronting for me to say the least, I took it personally, and it was not necessary.
I paid $100 gen ad to listen to some good music and enjoy the show, not to be shamed into feeling like I havnt done enough.
I believe most people with a heart already feel empathy towards the less fortunate in their desperate times of need, and try to help out any way they can.
Saint Bono :geek: , please don’t make me feel guilty for being fortunate enough to provide food, shelter and medicine for my family. I pay my taxes, and I know a lot of that gets blown by politicians in their pursuit of their own intrests, but a lot also gets to where its needed.
Enough negativity already… Happy New Year all.
Just needed to vent some, after all work on NY eve and NY day can do that to a person.
Glass is gonna be half full (or fully full) after work when I manage to finally crack one open for the new year!! Cheers all, to good health…… and many more PJ tours to come! The direction of the eye

direwolf74 wrote:Hating on U2 seems to be the cool thing to do these days, which is just plain silly. Personally I think they're one of the best bands of our time, and I hope they keep going for years to come. I could care less about how rich they are or how pretentious Bono is. Bottom line is they're a great fuckin' band. End of story. Unlike some folks, I really enjoyed their last record. Some really cool stuff on there: No Line, Unknown Caller, Moment of Surrender, Fez-Being Born, Breathe, White as Snow, Cedars of Lebanon. Much more interesting than their previous album in my opinion.
It's like, totally the cool thing. You aint cool unless you piss on U2.
I got into U2 specifically because of the hate here. They're freakin amazing. One of my favorite bands easily.
edit: and there last record was good. Much better than the previous 2, a huge step in the right direction. Breathe is a classic.5/28/06, 6/27/08, 10/28/09, 5/18/10, 5/21/10

U2 rocks, and Bono is still an incredible singer.
Bono might get a little too preachy at times but hey its better that then them giving a half assed show and not giving a shit about anyone
They are great in my book, they have a lot of timeless music0 -
Joshua tree and Achtung Baby are fantasic albums. After that, they are a singles band. Never seen them live though.PJ: 10/14/00 06/09/03 10/4/09 11/15/13 11/16/13 10/08/14

That's not a fashion accessory.

"[I have] very sensitive eyes to light. If somebody takes my photograph, I will see the flash for the rest of the day. My right eye swells up. I've a blockage there, so that my eyes go red a lot. So it's part vanity, it's part privacy and part sensitivity"
And the Edge is bald so he probably has a beanie to look cooler0
