No interest in Christmas

She like to have a tree and I don't like the thought of millions of trees getting cut down every year and tossed out. The argument goes that at least someone is planting trees instead of buildings. The problem is that young trees do not absorb much CO2 and Christmas trees get cut before they are big enough to capture CO2 efficiently. (Now hold on before you start declaring "Ba Humbug!". I'm not there yet.) So my compromise was, let's get a live tree every year. We buy a live tree that is suited to our area and after most of the danger of frost is past we plant it. Some of the trees we've planted have grow large enough now to be capturing CO2 efficiently, and she gets her Christmas tree every year.
Merry Christmas/happy re-greening of the planet!
I didn't know anyone else did this! We did that for some Christmases
but here in the South the pines ( Christmas tree type)
don't do as well as in the North.
I have planted in honor here though and we give the gift of trees also.
Our Christmas trees each year move outside after the holiday ...
then live on the deck with blue and white lights
then move to the yard and are covered in nummy bird treats til it is springtime
then they are mulch
What kind of birds do you see most often? We get lots of Lesse'rs gold finches, jays, flickers, towhees and gross beaks.Post edited by pandora on0 -

i don't think i am even putting up my tree this year. nobody but me, my dog, and my band would see it, and i would have to take it down again in just over 4 weeks if i put it up today."You can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry." - Lincoln

The older I get the less I like Christmas time. I don't get depressed or anything, I just see it as a diversion and an obligation to spend money. It's what it's become that bothers me; the need to go shopping, the obligation to giving lots of gifts which is usually a bunch of stuff that no one needs. The media shoving the commercialism down our throats. The radio stations playing Christmas music before Thanksgiving. I've resorted to calling the holiday "Giftmas" because that's how society has exploited the holiday.
If we could just get back to the basics of being kind, respectful and peaceful; what the holiday is supposed to mean, I may be more in the spirit.
I know exactly how you feel. This isnt the same holiday I remember as a kid or even 20 years ago. I feel that sooner or later they are gonna start advertising Christmas after the labor day weekend. It has gotten completely nuts. I feel that the commercialization of the holiday takes the spirit I use to have out of it.0 -

That's why I laugh at those people who claim there is a 'War On Christmas'. It's a 'War For Money'. That is why retail companies changed their advertisement from 'Christmas Sales' to 'Holiday Sales'. The want Jewish dollars, Muslim dollars, Hindu dollars, everyone's dollars.
And there isn't a law banning the singing 'Silent Night'... if people are pissed because little Sally's 3rd grade class can't sing it... pull her out of the tax funded public school system and send her off to a Christian/Catholic school where she can sing it all she wants.Allen Fieldhouse, home of the 2008 NCAA men's Basketball Champions! So, my daughter's school holiday concert is coming up but after last year's I don't think I want to go. I was in a wheel chair at the time, so between being pushed to her classroom to meet up with her classmates, then pushed to the auditorium, and then back to the classroom afterwards, I got to observe the masses of people. Cheery, these people were definitely not. Talk about miserable, stressed and tired looking. And it was everyone. It was such a dismal feeling I got from the frenzy of parents and families, as well as rudeness, pushing and shoving to get just the right photos of their precious children, that it was a total turn off and my daughter doesn't want to do it anyway, so...0

I remember in the 4rd grade... the parents of this one kid in class made a big stink because he was in the back row and the parents demanded he be in the front row because of his superior singing voice.
He was in the back row because that was the row where the taller kids stood... and he didn't mind. His parents made him feel like shit.
Well, that and all the teasing he got on the playground after that.Allen Fieldhouse, home of the 2008 NCAA men's Basketball Champions! Go Jayhawks!

I have no interest in Christmas as I have for the last 4 years....no lights, no tree nothing. Why I find no reason to do anything no one will be here we vacation elsewhere and besides only the children want lights etc but they WON'T help....until then everything will stay dusty in the attic. I stayed on topic.

I love the idea of going on vacation for Christmas. Some year, I'm gonna convince the family to do it.0 -
Spirit of Christmas ... is giving
this done as much for the giver as for the one who receives
"Instead of being a time of unusual behavior, Christmas is perhaps the only time in the year when people can obey their natural impulses and express their true sentiments without feeling self-conscious and, perhaps, foolish. Christmas, in short, is about the only chance a man has to be himself." ~Francis C. Farley
What kind of person are you? This the power we have to make Christmas meaningful
amongst the materialism and negativity the OP speaks of.
Its up to each person to make Christmas real for them and their families.0 -

I thought about you more than once.
You might want to put it up for your friends and dog ... celebrate them in your life
the love and support they give 365 days a year.
The magic of the music that you create together.
A tree, I have found kindles much, most especially a childlike joy from deep within.
A wonderment that has long since left.
I think your dog will enjoy that vibe in the room and the cuddling of Christmastime.
I think you might too ... I hope so.0 -
I haven't put up a tree for five years.0

Otherwise, as long as there is a 200 foot Christmas tree on the White House lawn, perhaps the few Scrooge's that make a huge stink about the holidays can suck it up and perhaps try spreading cheer and enjoying themselves for a change.Be Excellent To Each OtherParty On, Dudes!0
