There was also a competition to design a poster for tonight's show at Carnegie Hall.
Nate Schuiling won the "Songbook" Poster Design Contest with this poster:

I'm going to see him day-after-tomorrow, can't wait. Couple questions--
    1. How long is his set?
    2. Is there an opener?
    3. Any merch? Shirts, poster, anything?

    1. A little over 2 hours. Went on around 9:00. Ended maybe 11:15? Chris left the stage at 11:00 for the encore but came running back and said something about "going over" and he had to hurry it up.
    2. Yes, I wouldn't bother. I tried really hard but the guy just wasn't doing it for me. I think he plays for 30 minutes and there's 20 minutes in between.
    3. Yes, tour poster by Munk One as posted by derbydave ($30), tour shirt (30), hoodie, another t-shirt, patch, key chain, cd, T for little one that says "Black Hole Son" ($25), cap. This is the front of the tour shirt: https://shop.bompa.com/chris_cornell/t-shirts.html

Show was AMAZING and my seat was awesome. And no photography my ass. Some people had those mega blinding flashes (do those pics ever come out?!). I took some photos and videos, really hope they came out. Chris was very chatty, he had all sorts of stories. He was definitely much more at ease compared to when I saw him in April. I hope someone got a good recording of the show. He started talking about this teacher who didn't seem like he was very good at teaching anything but what stuck with Chris was he always said to sing like his voice could reach the back of Carnegie Hall. He also talked about a piano in his dressing room that had signs all over it to be careful around it, but there was another sign that said to leave his stuff in there "at his own risk". At least I think that's what he said.

Chris was really enjoying himself too, it was so nice to see. When he walked out and when he left the stage for good, he took his time to shake hands, and he would talk back to the crowd. People were yelling out songs, he played Blow Up The Outside World after someone yelled it, I don't think it was planned. As he was just about to start playing Seasons, someone yelled "SEASONS" and he stopped and was like, "could you tell from the tuning"? and then he was like, "no really, I'm serious, is that how you knew"? I didn't hear the response but he really was going to play Seasons. I think he was impressed that anyone would know just from the guitar tuning. There was a guy sitting front row center that stood up almost after each song to clap and finally Chris pointed right at him and was like, "what do you want to hear, you've been standing up all night" and the guy just proceeds to say some nice things to Chris who thanked him for his kind words. WOW. I would loved to be in that seat but I probably would have passed out so probably best that I wasn't.:lol:

Oh, and he played Hunger Strike! I haven't heard it with just one voice before, it was interesting. Before he went into it, he was talking about Temple of the Dog and how he had just met Ed and how he needs to have 8 songs or 10 songs and they were at 9, so he wrote Hunger Strike.

At one point when he was talking, he was like, "where are my kids?" and it takes him awhile to find them in the front row, just below where I was sitting, and he goes over and gives them kisses. Very cute. And then he asks them if they are enjoying the show, and proceeds to tell the crowd that they are probably bored because they "hear this shit all the time" and then I don't know what else he says but it was "fucking" this and "fucking" that, it was hilarious.

Carnegie Hall is one classy venue. Sound was amazing. The ushers were very nice and smiley and there were no lines in the bathroom. That's all I can ask for, really :D

Ok, I think I'm done rambling. Thanks for listening.

Have fun everyone who is going to see him. And everyone else who hasn't, YOU HAVE TO!! Chris Cornell is a genius. And a friend of Pearl Jam. And a genius. WOW.
  • Wow! Didn't see that poster, there wasn't too much merch actually. Great show- he sounded incredible. Had box seats practically on the stage- it was awesome. Felt so fancy finally in one of those boxes. Yeah- in my combat boots, EV tee and jeans :)
  • Suziemay- I was right above his kids too. Which box were you in? Don't tell me 61...

Omigosh, I was!!! I must have been right in front of you. I was going to turn around at some point to mention your shirt but I couldn't take my eyes off the stage (hope my camera wasn't too distracting, I tried really hard to be discrete!). I think by the time I came out of my daze you were gone..:lol:

...and I just found out the CD with 10 bonus tracks are only available on chriscornell.com... and $7.98 UPS shipping

If you want the CD with bonus tracks, see if they have it at the show, I'm pretty sure they did, I just didn't have enough money for the posters and shirt and CD

...I just remembered something else. When people were shouting out songs, Chris goes "Freebird?!" and then proceeds on a mini rant (playfully) about how someone ALWAYS yells Freebird.

I thought to myself.. "Dimi??":lol:

Okay, it really is time for bed.

Al I can say is that Chris is just an amazing talent, totally blew me away. Sunshower and Seasons has always had a special connection for me and now I feel my life is truly complete. I love you so much Chris and of course Suziemay for the ticket. This night will not soon be forgotten and really picked me up with the difficulties that have been my sometimes depressive state; but not surprised at all as that was music does for many us.

Wow look at all the songs on there from the Toronto show! I was at that show and it was amazing!! I think I have a video of As Hope and Promise Fade from the Toronto show (that I personally took) somewhere. It was so beautifully done!
I don't have a YouTube account but I'll see if I can get it uploaded at some point.

I hope Chris returns to Toronto on this tour. So far I haven't heard of any shows here being announced.

I can't wait for the Mesa, AZ show! Hearing him do TOTD material will be the next best thing to having a PJ or EV show in Arizona (patiently waiting since 2003).
