I'll admit that PJ doing a gospel album is a pretty far-fetched idea. Still, I never would have thought it (the idea) would have gotten so many awful responses. Ed's voice can have a soulful sound and PJ's music in general can come across as pretty spiritual sounding. For me, their music can be very spiritual. I do believe in God and I am a Christian and I know that can be viewed unfavorably here in these circles. This may seem odd to many people, but the messages I find in much of their music help me think of things I would/could easily otherwise blissfully overlook such as social inequality, hypocrisy in religion, the flaws of human nature, etc. Listening to the music actually helps me be a better person. But I digress...

I think the important thing to remember is that people shouldn't be so quick to judge other people's ideas and beliefs. The OP obviously has a Christian background and went out on a limb with it and posted it on here.

As someone pointed out, PJ could rock nursery rhymes if that's what they decided to play. Indeed, Gospel, done Pearl Jam style would undeniably sound righteous.

    IMHO

  • Finally after 28 posts someone mature had a good open minded response....the band would prob think its a neat idea...I hope they get word of this.
  • As someone who survived a childhood of southern religious oppression I get why many are all "WTF" but aren't Love Reign on Me, Long Road, and Come Back essentially gospel? It doesn't have to be religious to be gospel...

Not sure how the post I made was close minded or immature. I dont think you deserve to be smacked for making this post -- we all have our beliefs and opinions and are certainly entitled to them.
That being the case, I shared my belief (in Pastafarianism - if you read the link it makes just as much sense as any other reglion) and said that PJ would rock anything they played.

Good luck to you - I hope that my post did not offend you, that was not the intent. I do think PJ would sound great playing most anything - but if you listen to what they have put out there as personal beliefs (as many people pointed out, albeit a bit roughly) the idea that they would do a gospel album is extremely far fetched.

Actually I think to be Gospel it is a must that the lyrics be in some way religious. Otherwise how would they be connected to the Gospel or be called Gospel?

  • Just because you don't believe in God now, doesn't mean you won't later.

You have a valid point and I'm sorry you had to endure that. I've seen that happen to people firsthand so I get what you're saying. I also agree with you about some of those songs and I'm truly glad I'm not the only one who sees it that way. As long as peace and love is the central message... there can surely be found an element of gospel. :)

I think that would be like PJ trying to do a rap album...it just wouldn't work.

Hope my post isn't too immature...
