Hi Friends! I need some advice!
I live in Buffalo, NY and I reallyyyy reallyyy wanna follow Pearl Jam in Europe the next time they are there (hopefully for a solid run of shows)
Who here has traveled from the USA to Europe to follow our boys?
Any advice for me?
Like... how cheap do you think I can do it (as I am a college student without a real career yet lol)?
I am very low-maintenance when it comes to traveling... I don't need much to have a good time.
How inexpensive do you think I could make the trip? Or is it just gonna be an expensive trip no matter what?
I just wanna get some ideas as to how much money I need to be saving (probably just gonna try to save as much as possible).
ANY ADVICE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!
Thanks guys

i've done it.
amazing experience and if you have the time/funs to make it happen- go for it!
cheapest cities to fly into are dublin and london. BUT- those are expensive cities. bring some peanut butter and top ramen and that should save you some loot.
always take the rail between cities- don't fly
how many shows do you wanna see?
you can do a nice run of shows for like 1500(flight/lodging taken into account) if you budget properlyi have a paper here that entitles me to fast track status0 -
I'd like to see as many shows as possible!
And yeah I'm sure it'd be an incredible experience and now is probably the best time for me to do it (being a college student with no major responsibilities yet)
Which I guess leads to my next question... what are the chances that PJ is gonna tour Europe in 2012? Definitely a key element of my trip being successful hahah"All the things that others want for me.. can't buy what I want because it's free!"

sounds good man!
you can save some money by couchsurfing and if you do that, you will meet some really nice people!0 -
Biggest expenses will be airfare and rail. Start looking at airfare now to get a sense of what that will cost you. Consider a Eurail Pass for unlimited train travel for a specified period of time. Pick up a Lonely Planet guide book to the countries you want to visit as they have hostels listed that will tell you how much per night to stay and/or cheap hotels. Plan on one splurge night in a nice hotel and at least $100.00 per day for meals/expenses, etc. You can do it on the cheap but you need to plan ahead and figure it out.
Good luck and step out off the porch!

Absoloute nightmare! Unless you have you a lot of money and like flying/long train journeys then wouldn't bother. Hostels are always the way forward if you are on a budget but they really are just a bed and a shared bathroom or private if you get people to share with. To start booking stuff use www.kayak.com or www.skyscanner.net for tickets. Google Maps is bloody amazing to 'search nearby' for hostels and to plan your trip out visually.
Also whether you care about front row effects your trip majorly!
I've toured Europe numerous times as well as USA so I have a good understanding of both. If you have any specific questions post away or PM me.0 -

I plan on following the whole / most of the next European tour too.
OP, flight from/to NYC aside, you definitely won't be on your own to figure it all out. Here's hoping it'll indeed be 2012 !0 -

European shows have a very different feel to them from the North American shows I experienced, probably due to them being GA.
(I think that GA provides so many more opportunities to enjoy shows with a whole bunch of friends, new and old! but it does mean if you want front row you have to be prepared to queue for a very long time. I don't bother, I like meeting other fans and seeing the places/cities the shows are in and experiencing the shows freely. In Europe 10C gets you a wristband for the show allowing 15 minute entry before the general public)
Travelling between shows can be long and arduous however there are cheap flights and there are trains. There are plenty of options for accomodation. Start saving and if they announce a tour then you can see how far your cash will stretch.2009 - Manchester. 2010 - Dublin, Belfast, London, Berlin, Arras, Werchter. 2011 - PJ20 i & ii, Montreal, Toronto i & ii, Ottawa, Hamilton.
2012 - Manchester i & ii, Berlin i & ii, Stockholm. 2014 - Amsterdam i & ii, Trieste, Vienna, Berlin, Leeds, Milton Keynes.

The question was "have you travelled to europe for PJ?" right? I never did.
Do I think Europe will get some PJ loving in '12? I don't see why not. New song already released. They said they were in the studio making a new record. So it all points to yes.
But before they leave the east coast to Europe, let's hope they don't forget to dock here in Halifax, Nova Scotia before they travel east for the month over in Europe, right?0 -

I expect Ed means as we have GA we have no lottery for front row etc...
He likes to be upfront for shows, I am the opposite as the time taken in Europe for queues for the front take up time when I could be seeing the city/meeting up with friends
