Thanks!0 -

We'll go the cheapest way, we'll find a way, you just have to pull this off !!
Now about that bus and that documentary .... I have a feeling it'll be well documented, considering we had like 300 + pix for 3 days only ....0 -

We'll find a way! Although, I might have accumulated enough miles on my credit card from all the PJ spending I'm doing this year0 -
1. Hotels are for silly older people. Youth hostels are everywhere. Decent ones for about $35. Just about double that if you're going to a show in Venice or Scandinavia, halve that if it's in places not on the Euro (except Switzerland and Scandinavia). Hostelworld or Hostelbookers.
2. Book early, book cheap. Flights, especially. Skyscanner is your friend. Ryanair isn't, but it's cheap. They're fucked, you'll get pissed off at them while you fly, but they're cheap. And them other ones too - WizzAir, Tuifly, them other continent-based tightarse airlines. You can fly for 5 bucks if you book at exactly the right times.
3. A Eurail pass is a ripoff for the kind of rapid travel you'll be doing during a tour.
4. You really wanna save money? Forget the hostel. Sleep on the airport floor. Saves on the hostel cost, and the first plane out from whichever shitty out-of-town airport to the next place you're going to is always the cheapest one
5. Find someone to ride with instead of flying
6. Fuck the queue. Waste of time. Unless if it's Berlin, in which case they have great bars right at the queue, but even then, still fuck the queue. I'd rather dive into the fountain and/or pass out. Come drink with me instead.
7. I cannot emphasise this any more. FUCK. THE. QUEUE.
8. You can sleep when you pass out.
9. Alcohol-induced sleep drowns out the vaccuum cleaners at the airport which run through the night. They're annoying, but at least night staff being around means that no one is getting raped.
10. I say come drink with me. I didn't say that I'm good at protecting people. Some guy walked into my Alpine Valley room and demanded we leave his room, and my reaction was to wake up, go pee, then go back to sleep.
11. Ask people for board. I hosted like 12 Poles at my digs in London for showers and shit.
12. Trans-Atlantic flights aren't going to be cheap. Ryanair is sposed to start up but don't hold your breath. Transat or Iceland Express are somewhat cheaper than the big carriers.
13. Oh yeah. Fuck the queue.
14. Drinking in Scandinavia is expensive.
15. Drinking in Poland is not
16. I love that everyone just drinks in the street and on the tube in Germany and a bunch of other places
17. Did I mention I'm kinda a tour alcoholic?
18. Fuck the queue!115 bucks for half a haircut by a novice? I want my money back!0 -

Sadly I no longer have my sweet old flat in London to host people like last time... the cramped space here doesn't allow for that. Unless if people are interested in something called a stacks-on, another Aussie concept I'm looking to introduce to my touring.115 bucks for half a haircut by a novice? I want my money back!0

so far it seems that the general consensus is to BOOK EARLY in order to get the cheapest flights....
however, this seems to present a bit of a problem....
i feel like pearl jam is notorious lately for not announcing dates super super in advance... for example... when was PJ20 actually announced? wasn't that like 4 months ahead of time? is that early enough to get a good price on flights?
any idea when we might get closer to some real dates? i feel like it might not be til march or something which i feel isnt a great amount of time to prepare... idk"All the things that others want for me.. can't buy what I want because it's free!"

I got good fares for Chicago (from Nice) when PJ20 was announced. Actually, the prices even went down a bit for a few days, before going back up again and getting more and more expensive. So the timing for me, in that respect, wasn't that bad.0 -

I generally do okay if I buy at least a month before. 2 months in advance is my comfort level. I think 4 months advance notice is plenty! Sometimes when I look too far in advance the fares aren't that great. I'd say don't worry about it until it's announced because until then, there isn't much you can do! Maybe hotels that allow you to cancel if you hear rumours.0 -
I already live in Europe so I did not have to travel to it, but I've been touring since many years ago, when most people weren't touring after Pearl Jam yet. The past years, money has really restricted me, but back then I did not let it bother me. Transportation and tickets are the most important, and then you'll need places to sleep. You can make that as cheap or as expensive as you wish. I know people who toured the whole 2000 European tour who sometimes slept in parks and washed in fountains. But I also know people who spent the same amount of money for two shows that I did 13 for in 2006.
I liked touring by train, but once I got my own car that turned out the best. It's exhausting, but it is exhausting anyway. I have slept in a mixture of friend's houses, hostels, hotel floors of friends when everything was full, and hotels. Loved it all! Just be in time, be prepared (money, days off, information, things like that), and just do it.
Oh, and to get to know people all over Europe, of course I can recommend the Bugs mailinglist. It was started in 1995 before the tour of 1996. You can find all information about Bugs on our facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/pjbugs
