Also, since, for many of us it's also about meeting other fans and friends and enjoy the show collectively, what the crowd is gonna be like is a good factor to consider. I have to agree with Dimi on his mini-analysis of Euro and S.American crowds. He has first-hand experience...I've only watched videos :P And I've never seen them here in Norway since I only moved here over 4 yrs ago (they haven't been here since 2000 - hint! hint!)...so I dunno what the PJ crowds are like here. London last yr was massive and ppl very crazy but in a good way. I was the only PJ-fan in my little group of 3. Met some Italian, English and Irish fans and they were all just as 'mad' as each other and it all made for a fantastic atmosphere.if I keep holding out,.... will the light shine through?0

That's exactly why I chose to do London last year cuz I could only do one show!! Just wish I had known more fans in-person...would have had a better timeif I keep holding out,.... will the light shine through?0 -
Keep in mind that next year we have the olympics in London,so airfare/hotels around that time will I suspect be pricier.....2009 - Manchester. 2010 - Dublin, Belfast, London, Berlin, Arras, Werchter. 2011 - PJ20 i & ii, Montreal, Toronto i & ii, Ottawa, Hamilton.
2012 - Manchester i & ii, Berlin i & ii, Stockholm. 2014 - Amsterdam i & ii, Trieste, Vienna, Berlin, Leeds, Milton Keynes.
2016 - Boston Fenway i & ii, 2018 - Amsterdam i & ii, Pinkpop, London i & ii, Padova, Krakow, Barcelona, Seattle i & ii.0 -

This has to be done now....umm, maybe not the whole tour but most of it. I can pull that off, right? Cheap and cheerful sounds great in that case. It'll be a laugh. Bring your own sheets
I'll backpack it this time. Don't think I can go on almost a whole tour with the same pair of jeans like I had to for PJ20, thanks to American Airlines losing my bag :P
Me too!! All this talk about Europe 2012 is making me crave it now. MSG what? Bring on the European shows!! Actually, please still come to MSG 2 nights. Or 5
sickofit, when you fly international, do a non-US airline. I find the service soooo much better. Your bag actually shows up like it's supposed to and when you miss a connecting flight, they actually make sure your luggage is on the plan you are on, not the one that you missed. Imagine that!0 -

So out of your run of shows, which place had the best crowd?
And what makes Wulheide so good? Dimi mentioned this too.
I've never been over there so just curious.
thanks!0 -
Here's my tip: you live in Buffalo? I live in NJ, but I found this great airline, Globespan, that flies from NYC to Liverpool, landing at John lennon International Airport ... really reasonable rates!! When Pearl Jam played Wembley in London in 2007 I flew there, spent a night in Liverpool and toured all the famous Beatles haunts...then took a bus to London for the show...but if they play anywhere in Europe this is a great way to get there, because from London it's easy to get anywhere else in Europe, and it is worth it just to see Liverpool!I was alone and far away when I heard the band start playing!
...I was always a DeadHead, but when I first heard Winston Rodney, aka the Burning Spear, sing, I became a SpearHead too!0 -
dimitrispearljam wrote:i shit and i stink wrote:Tour the cheaper countries in Europe and you'll save a packet. Pearl Jam at Berlin cost nearly 3 times as much as the same concert the next night at the Opener festival here in Poland. Accommodation, etc also makes a big difference to a budget. My advice if you are travelling on a budget is to skip the UK and fly straight to Germany and tour in continental Europe.
With the band playing some unusual/rarely visited countries in South America, there is always a chance that they will hit less often visited places in Europe like Croatia, Poland, Czech Rep, Slovakia, Bulgaria and so on and that would be about 5 shows for the price of two in the UK!
That was only because there was just a day between the show in Berlin and the festival in Gydnia and Gdynia doesn't have a good enough airport or direct train connection to get there in time. The only option was a more expensive flight or two, or driving like we did - but then we are local, so we could just use our own car. In terms of accommodation, food and concert tickets, Poland is cheaper than most other places.
However, at the risk of being lambasted by all the Poles on here, I have to say that the crowds are amongst the worst in Europe. They are always full of people who think that the front 20 rows of every single concert has to be a mosh pit like an Napalm Death concert. Most casual concert goers don't really 'get' what a Pearl Jam concert is, they just think that guitar = reason to headbutt people and stamp on feet. The real Pollish Pearl Jam fans don't fit into this category.we're all going to the same place...0 -

well, they don't always just do a London gig in the UK...I'd opt for Ireland this time around if it's on the list. Or Manchester. Forgot abt the Olympics next yr. PJ might stay away from London all together depending on dates if they know what's good for 'em. I can imagine it's gonna be a nightmare getting around London next summer.
Athens, though, I could go for....native tour guide and much better food tooif I keep holding out,.... will the light shine through?0 -
