This was my first Pearl Jam concert ever...blah blah...on with the night.
Well, as a first timer, you would think I'd have been let down not to hear the 'hits'. But NOOOOOO...this was the most amazing first show for me because I felt like the band took me back to the days I had missed out on...the earlier days when not every song was known by every person (although the crowd seemed to know every word and the place was rocking with the singing, dancing and following every one of Ed's signals to do something). TOTD was just unbelievable.... little old me seeing this kind of history....the reunion I NEVER thought I'd see....the songs I had never heard live.
I was in my element, especially when Release opened....OMG that song live is...well, you know...amazing! In My Tree is one of my favorites and is so much better live....aren't they all??My most memorable moment personally will be RVM....I just let loose and lost it when that was played
I knew from the EV solo shows how great his voice is live...I was curious to see what PJ all together would be like live. I prefer all the live recordings anyway, but they are not the same as being there. I was not disappointed.
I felt (in my newbie way) that this was a fitting day one....I LOVED it...couldn't have asked for more....then came night two. I cannot stay up late to write all I need to about that night...the best time of my life! Will do it tomorrow0 -

) This weekend has been one of the most exciting things that ever happened to me and I'm still grinning from ear to ear. Thank you IALauder for making my day on the second day with your tickets - the seats were amazing! And thank you Speedy for taking me with you back to Chicago
Bring on the footage and the bootlegs - can't wait to relive it! Thank you Pearl Jam, I heart you and most of your fans big time"...Dimitri...He talks to me...'.."The Ghost of Greece..".

OK, night 1. This was my reserved seats night. Hard to put all of this into words. I think everyone knows we had a great time at the tailgating parties. At this point, it has become more about seeing friends and hanging out than then band. The band has become a vehicle and an excuse to travel to the middle of nowhere to see some of your best friends who you would otherwise have never known. I can personally thank Pearl Jam for introducing me to wonderful people and giving me a reason to see the world.
Also just looking around and seeing, after 20 years, that many fans packed into that place singing and dancing. It was the highlight of the show for me. I pointed it out to my wife several times - "Look at all the people here! I can't believe it!"
That being said, on to the set. We know it was "weird" or whatever but personally I enjoyed every song. I always do. However, I like a few hits sprinkled into my rarities so that to me made it feel a little off, but they more than made up for it the next day.
The first 6 songs just kicked my ass. Perfect opening 6 right there. I do like Arms Aloft even though a lot of people don't. Who You Are was fantastic and Setting Forth was a nice surprise left turn from nowhere. And Push Me Pull Me? WTF? hahahaha. I got to mark two more off my YIELD list with that one and No Way the 2nd night.
The set felt weird to me after that because I have never been a fan of Deep. I just don't like the tone of that song but that's just me. And I am not a Riot Act fan so Help, Help was a huge WTF moment for me. But Breath through Life Wasted put the charge back into things for sure.
RVM will always be special. And while I am not really a Cornell fan, it was truly memorable to see Temple of the Dog play a Mother Love Bone song. And a lot of people are complaining about Reach Down but come on! McCready got to shred that song both nights!!
Speaking of McCready - He owned Night 1. Just owned it. So animated and over the top. I love the energy he brings when he paces in circles and does a jump then maybe twists the knobs on his amps on the way by and then throws some picks to the crowd all while twirling one hand in the air to fire everyone up. That guy is something else. Cornell stole the show?? Not if Mike had anything to say about it. I left thinking Mike stole it.
The 2nd encore being only one song and a strange choice to end on at that was probably the only downside for me. It just felt off. Like, "is that end? Really?" But other than that the show killed. Oh, and Ed - get a lyric sheet. The lyrical fuck-ups are cute and all and we all get a kick out of it, but would it kill you to maybe learn some of the words?

Awesome setlist for the hardcore fans like me. Chris was amazing, could have done with a couple less from him though. The sound was great, energy was great, but the flow (maybe because of the oddity filled setlist) was off in my opinion. You could tell it was the first show of the tour, hate to say it, but it's true.95' - 7/9

Night 1 setlist was almost a fan club setlist. Arms aloft was an interesting choice though. Push me pull me was very cool, never heard it live, I loved it. Not for U was driven home, a great version, (fuck you!!!) In the moonlight, Help Help another very cool song rarely played, Ive never seen and a big highlight. SOLAT rocked. I was moved by Eddie's explanation prior to Life Wasted reprise of how as kids they collectively and individually did not listen to reason ( or parents) and went for their goals, and achieved them. I thought his giving due to those kids , and to see the result of those individual efforts to what they are now, and what we are now, was what the weekend was all about. Those kids were the celebration of the moment. The more I think about night 1 the more I appreciate it.
The temple of the dog reunion really showed how giving this band is, and how giving the majority of the fans are. For eddie to give up the stage to Chris at that moment, at a moment when PJ is celebrating its own 20 year anniversary, to give that up to TOTD and to give tribute to a band formed 20 years ago that only existed out of mourning was a tremendous thing to do. My thanks to PJ for a great 20 years. All together now...0 -
I didn't want to clutter up the board with all of this but upon arriving home last night, I had this overwhelming feeling that I needed to chronicle evrything I could remeber from the incredible experience that was PJ20. I don't want to forget even the smallest of deatils so I am frantically trying to write it all down before it escapes my brain. I've never done anything like this before so hopefully it's not terrible, but I decided to start a blog that will hopefuly serve as a snapshot of the entire weekend. I've got lots of pics and I'm trying to cram in as much detail as possible. My hope is that this will act as a little reminder to those that were there of the awesome time we all had, and for those that weren't there, hopefully this will offer a little window into what it was like to be at this truly unique experience. It's going to take some time for me to get everything up and I am trying to go through in chronological order so hopefully some of you will find this fun or interesting but it is just one person's perspective of a truly amazing weekend and not representative of what anyone else may have experienced. Hope it serves it's purpose and sorry if it ends up sucking. Like I said, I will continue to add to it as I can. Here's the link...

Not a complaint, just an observation:
I can't believe they went both nights of PJ20 without playing Corduroy. At one time, that song was practically Ed's personal mission statement.everybody wants the most they can possibly get
for the least they could possibly do0 -
Not bitter..I had a family wedding today...I'm am as hardcore as they come....80 plus shows all over the USA....Hawaii twice.....so iam very hardcore....just saying it wasn't epic setlist wise for me..
Philly 3 and MSG 2 blow this set out of the water
Well you WEREN'T there, that's the main thing that irritates me is when people say, the set list didn't look that good to me, Philly 3 and MSG blows this set out of the water??? HELLO you WEREN'T there, I saw the Grateful Dead 169 time and I can tell you without a doubt, that there were SEVERAL great shows that if you look at the set list it looked like just another show, but you wouldn't be able to make the determination UNLESS you were there!    [img][/img]9/5/92, 11/20/93, 3/14,15/94, 9/16/95, 10/14,15/2000

One of my minor complaints...if only because I don't know that I could ever get tired of hearing that one live.0 -
Saturday's set list was awesome. All the complainers should just stay home next time. You just witnessed 1 of 2 shows in the US for PJ20. You were a part of history. Find another band to complain about!!!0

I WON THE FREAKIN' LOTTERY FOR NIGHT 1, 2nd row right in front of Mike...so I'm tired of all the 'non-attendants' taking a piss out of Night 1...granted the set didn't flow like we're used to, but it was indeed EPIC...I don't need to review songs, etc but it was worth the trip from Eastern PA and I'm glad I was in the nosebleed Lawn for Night 2, that set was more for the casual fan...
I got a Mike pic and my gf, PearlJGirl2010 got a Jeff pic...we were pretty impressed with we witnessed...that is all...I met my wife here...you can too! Don't lose hope!0 -
(didn't know that WMA11 just posted--couldn't have planned that if I wanted to!!)
Both nights were awesome, just different from each other...which made it an amazing weekend. Lottery seats aside (which were UNREAL, by the way), I had so much fun jumping around like a crazy person, seeing so many of my PJ friends, discovered some great bands and saw PEARL JAM. no complaints here...I'm just glad I was there :-)Need a tour Travel Agent??? Pick me :-)
Whatever you are, be a good one --Lincoln0 -
Ah.. Night one.. Row P on Stones side. My 18th PJ show. A couple guys from Italy on one side of us and a couple from Iowa on the other side of us. How cool is that… Heard Who You Are, Push Me, Pull Me, Education, Deep and In The Moonlight all for the first time. Josh Homme was awesome on that song. With hearing Deep I finally Have heard Ten in its entirety live. Chris Cornell sounds like a million bucks live. And the boys covers of Love, Reign O’er Me and Arms Aloft were brilliant. And the cherry on top was hearing Help Help for the 2nd time….E.
