afarid wrote:Everybody is talking about justice being done with osama's death. Justice for who? The people who lost their lives on 9/11. I really don't think so because terrorism still exists.
I hear what you are saying, although I don't agree with a lot of what you said, but there seems to be a bit of miscommunication going on with the Justice issue. When people are saying Justice, they don't mean that terrorism is forever over, or that the dead of 9/11 are smiling down from wherever. It's not so broad as that. It is simply that the guy committed a crime, and he paid for it. Justice. Think of it on a smaller scale. Guy commits murder, and gets brought to justice. Did it end murder forever? Will there never be another murder? Of course there will be, that's not the point. The point is THAT guy won't murder again, and those who were wronged (not the actual victims of course, they're dead after all, but families, etc) often feel a sense of closure with that. There are plenty of people who feel a sense of closure or justice with the death of bin Laden, and nobody is going to change their mind on that, nor should anybody really be trying to.
Personally I didn't lose anybody in 9/11 or even know anybody who was lost, so I don't feel any personal justice. But as an American I felt like Osama should pay for his crime, and he has made it clear he would never be taken alive, so I knew it would probably mean his death. Nobody is under the impression that the world is all unicorns and roses now that he is dead."See a broad to get dat booty yak 'em, leg 'er down, a smack 'em yak 'em!"0 -
Usually when there's a debate going on, there's two opposing sides:
Now I know I've definitely found the crowd that thinks killing Osama will not end terrorism, because they keep on saying the same thing 20 different ways.
But the strange thing is, I haven't come across a single person who has claimed that terrorism has ended anywhere...
Next, are you all going to start going into long-winded lectures about how we need to support our troops? Or maybe you can tell us that the grass is green while you're at it.

actually, watching CNN last night before Obama took to the podium, one asshole analyst said something to the effect of just that, that the war on turr was over, and we had "won". yeah, like they're all just going to go back and hide in their caves to watch All In The Family.Gimli 1993

Can I just ask honestly how much "credit" does Obama actually deserve??
Sure he gave the order for them to get him. But it's not like it was his intelligence that found him, or him that went in there and flushed him out. Really what did he do besides sit in an office, hear a lot of reports and info and say, "go in there and get him" to me it's a much bigger collective effort and I don't see how he, or anyone person can get credit for this. And I'd be a little perplexed if his platform for getting re-elected is "I found Obama"
But yeah I know it's not Obama jumping round saying "look I got him, it was me I found him"Post edited by threefish10 oncondescending and sarcastic since 19800 -

Obama pulling Osama out of a hat pretty much takes the soft on national security issue dems usually face in elections off the table. Obama is pretty much a shoe in. Whatever, doesn't matter who it is we are all fucked.0 -
New episode of Chuck tonight. A character says something about Vegas' gun ranges and holds up a picture of his "dream target". Talk about good timing for a joke.0

An interesting side note here. The first international warrant for OBL's arrest was issued in April 1998 following a request not by the Americans or the Europeans, but by Colonel Gaddafi of Libya.

afarid wrote:Why would Pakistan Army give shelter to Al-Qaieda and Osama when it is them who have been bombing and killing innocent Pakistanis for over 20 years. More Pakistani soldiers have died fighting this war on terror. Pakistan has been the biggest victim of terrorism and more Pakistani Soldiers have died in this war of terror. NEVER FORGET THAT!!!!!!!
So to blame to Pakistan is just naive and pretty stupid
Like I said before Osamas death does not do anything to stop terror. You in America might think it does but then again you live in a Bubble. You have no idea what your politician and businessmen go around doing in the world. And unless the American international policy changes, acts of terror will keep on happening and new Osamas will be get born in every generation.
VERY well said. :thumbup:0 -

It is the media, and us, that will blow this out of proportion. Should we be happy that a mass-murderer is dead? yes. is this "Mission Accomplished?" No. Ask Obama, Petraus, Gates, or Panetta, if this fight is over. It's back to business for them.0

Thank goodness somebody logs in every 5 minutes to tell us stupid Americans that there is still going to be terrorism now that bin Laden is dead. One thing that some of you people should think about is what causes all your hostility towards Americans, and makes you feel like YOU and YOU alone need to tell us what we already know. I think a lot of these posts are more telling about the chips some individuals around here have on their shoulders, as valid as some of your points may be.
And let me ask you something, let's say there are some Americans who think that the world will now be a rosier place that bin Laden is dead, why is it up to you to take the piss out of them? A lot of these posts really have nothing to do with whether or not going after bin Laden was right or wrong, or anything like that, it's just seems like you're trying to make sure that Americans don't feel any sense of victory over it."See a broad to get dat booty yak 'em, leg 'er down, a smack 'em yak 'em!"0 -

the head is off of the snake. but the war on terror goes on. some may sleep easier knowing that bin laden is dead, but in all actuality things are really no different than they were saturday as far as our foreign policy is concerned.
it was our foreign policy that started all of this back in the late 90s. and it is our current foreign policy that will continue to breed hatred in other regions of the world.
