Prince William's not so bad himself. ;)

...or why you guys still have a royal family when they no longer govern.

As do quite a number of European countries.

This is true, although Sweden and Denmark are the only ones I can think of, I'm sure there are probably more. And I don't really know much about their Royal Families, or how they live, what it may cost the tax payer, etc.

Also Norway, Belgium, Spain, Luxembourg, Monaco, The Netherlands, Andorra, Lichtenstein...

    As you (?) said... tradition?

I don't have a problem with a monarchy like in the UK as the royal family don't govern. I, however, have a problem with the House of Lords.

Also worth mentioning is how hot Kate's sister is. Damn.

Last night the girlfriend mentioned it and I asked "what is the royal wedding?"

She was pretty surprised that I had no idea what was going on. I'm just ignorant though, I'm only watching the NBA playoffs right now.

I watched it. Politics aside, the Abbey, the bride and the city all looked spectacular. Perfect day for it. I love pomp and circumstance. Cool planes and buggys!

But whats with the hat fetish?

Apparently I hit a nerve, and I did not mean to. I'm not sure what role the Royal Families play in all of these countries. But in Britain they do not govern, or have any say in domestic/foreign policy. I would say they are still there mainly out of tradition than anything else. Do I think they need to get rid of them? Well I don't really think it's any of my business, I'm not British and I will not stick my nose that far in their affairs (other than just opining about it on a PJ board), as they don't do any real harm as I can see. I imagine the cost of sustaining them could probably be put to better use, but hey, I live in the USA. We don't exactly manage our money well either.

:lol: This reminds me of my boyfriend (although he's not watching NBA, but sometimes clueless nonetheless :) ) But last night just in conversation I said you know who gets married tomorrow? And he said no, who? I said Prince William and Kate. He said 'isn't he like, 12?'.

William is a search and rescue helicopter pilot. Kate used to work until William's job was moved and then she gave up her job to move with him.
So are we strangers now? Like rock and roll and the radio?

Yeah, the Prince is a RAF search and rescue pilot.
