    Walt "Clyde" Frazier

This one isn't really an official "nickname" but Bill Simmons referred to Peyton Hillis as "The Avalanche" last year because "he's white, runs downhill, and leaves a path of destruction in his wake". That made me laugh my ass off when I first read it.

I always thought The Cobra (dave parker) was pretty bad ass. Especially since he swung a sledge hammer in the on deck circle.

Iceman (George Gervin) is pretty sweet too

  • How come women athletes rarely have colorful nicknames, if any at all?

The only one I can think of is Martina "Carpet Muncher" Navratilova.
I think she got that nickname because she was so dominant on that surface.
