Don't forget about guys that have nicknames for their real names; Chipper Jones, Colt McCoy, etc. Among those guys, by far my favorite is Tank Johnson. Would you ever mess with a guy named Tank Johnson? Say I ran into you and said "Dude, Tank Johnson is looking for you. He's really mad." You'd run for the hills.

Macho Harris is another good one.

A quick check on his Wikipedia page confirms that you're right. "Colt" is indeed his middle-name. Why on earth you knew that and cared to point it out is anybody's guess. Who cares about Colt McCoy anyway? The point simply was that you don't mess with a guy named Tank

Darrell Thompson of the Packers. The Ruler.

Was watching a local Packers show when he was the guest back in the 90s. Another Packer was in the audience and stood up during audience questions. He asked Darrell why everyone in the locker room calls him The Ruler? Darrell kind of laughed awkwardly and said it was because he likes math so much and he carries a ruler around with him.

I'm sure it's already been said in this thread, but "Killer" Doug Gilmour is my favourite.
I'm not even a Leafs fan but love that nickname.

As a Canucks fan these are a few nicknames for the current roster:

    Kevin Bieksa - Juice
    Dan Hamhuis - Hammer
    Jannik Hansen - Honey Badger
Alex Burrows - Animal (from the Muppets)

    Other past players:
    'Captain' Kirk McLean
    'King' Richard Brodeur
    John Vanbriesbrouck - Beezer
    'Saint' Patrick Roy
    'Magnificent' Mario Lemieux
Andre 'Red Light' Racicot (he let in a lot of goals)
    Matt Cooke - Cookie Monster
    Mark Recchi - Wrecking Ball
    Todd Fedoruk - Tank
