  • this is incredibly shady. it's bad enough to announce this on december 31st and give less than a day til the change takes effect but then i go on now to renew BEFORE january 1st when this change is supposedly taking place and it's already my only option. not cool 10 club. not cool.

So, I'm confused. My membership will be up for renewal around March or April, my husbands in November. Are we still under the old membership, which means we will get the vinyl and magazine w/out upgrading or do we have to upgrade now? This does suck b/c we are broke here at Christmas time if we need to shell out the extra money now.
    Hearts and thoughts they fade....
    fade away...

I am at peace with my lust.....for Eddie.

Nope, you don't have to worry about this until your memberships are due to be renewed in 2011. This is new for 2011 memberships.

not exactly. i was renewing mine that expired a couple weeks ago and i was still in my 90 day grace period and this new system that supposedly hasn't even started yet was my only option.
Stunned by my own reflection, it's looking back sees me too clearly and I swore I'd never go there again. Not unlike a friend that politely drags you down.

Fuck this. Double the price for the same as what I got before. Duping me into believing I need to be an analog fan to be hard core. This is disappointing. Happy nye! BARF
  • for those calling out members for saying they'll cancel....

keep in mind a lot of members never even see the benefit of presales. I live in the southern US, and haven't had a decent opportunity to get to a show since 2004. I can only imagine what its like for those outside the US. I've been paying my dues for the presales nly, in hope that they'll eventually do another run in the south, but I think the time has come to let my membership lapse.

$20 extra for the vinyl version of the Christmas single? That's disappointing. I mean, I know there's other stuff in there too, but still... :?

Ugh $25 dollar increase for a tshirt I probably won't wear and a live concert download thats probably in mp3 and I won't use. I tend to buy flac or a CD of the shows I go to. So an mp3 download would be kind of meh.

I still pay for the analog, because it'd be a shame to stop my fan single collection. However the international digital membership is 5 bones cheaper then the current membership. It could be cheaper to buy the digital membership and a vinyl later on.. either from ebay or when the 10c sells off their extras. I'm not to worried about deep magazine as it usually doesn't have anything groundbreaking in it, but I would miss the 7" single every year.

This is our band pulling some major bullshit and hoping we just swallow and fall in line. This is out of character and disappointing. I don't typically speak neg on the guys but this wreaks of bullshit. At some point this good deal was bound to go south. I guess pj was too good to keep from becoming dmb. : (

I gotta say, this is really the first thing the 10c has done that rubs me the wrong way-class/caste fan club system?

my gosh, that seems to go against everything I thought the band stood for-which is every member gets equal treatment (except for seating in reserved venues of course).

perhaps this is a result of their new partnership with that marketing/royalty tracking company whose name I forget

I dont begrudge PJ for seeking more revenue, just raise the fee $10. I begrudge them for creating two classes of fan club members. What a terrible idea.

BOO BOO BOO HISS HISS HISS (Uniondale style)

This better be the first question on the next AET broadcast or I will lose total faith in PJ fans. :!:

EDIT: Can it really be getting that much more expensive to produce vinyl? Is the the band just offering fans who really care about vinyl a tad more to offset the costs? Perhaps its not so evil. Hey you want vinyl, its gonna cost a bit more, and we will throw in a few extras. hmmmmm.............

Maybe thats the point. They are trying to thin the herd. Montana style.

At first, I liked this option but after some thinking... we are kind of getting the shaft.
They are pretty much taking away stuff from our membership and if you want hard copies you have to pay $50 for a Canadian membership and all we get extra is a t shirt?
I don't know why you would even bother getting the basic membership. You get fuck all.

I ordered Backspacer from the Ten Club before it was released and it took over three months after the release date for me to get it and even with that, I paid more for just the CD when people that bought it at CD stores got more freebees and paid less. I learned my lesson and next time I will be buying the new Pearl Jam album at a store on the release date. There is no incentive for me to pre order it here.

I had to think long and hard if I wanted to renew my membership last year. Didn't seem like I got much for the money I paid but it's going to cost me how much extra to get the same stuff?!

As of right now it's not looking too good that I will renew when the time comes.

I predict that Ten Club is going to lose a lot of members.

I can see some fan club members not renewing their 10c membership..The fan club members that don't have a great fan club number..Which they can probably get better tickets off ebay or ticketmasterfor pj concerts..

meh probably from people with mediocre fan club members. I can't imagine people with low fan club members (150xxx or lower?) giving them up very easily.

Not happy at all with this. Why upgrade to an analog membership, doesn't make sense. Don't need a club t-shirt every year, I already have enough tshirts and prefer to pick and choose what I buy. How good a quality the ts are going to be remains to be seen. $20 to upgrade a fc membership is just plain over the top. Whoever said there should be a poll for us to choose what we want came up with an excellent idea. Whatever happened to the TWO Deep mags we were supposed to be getting each year, not to mention the non existent holiday single of 2010 that we're still waiting for! The whole thing is a sham and another way to fleece us for more money. Only reason I'm in the Ten Club is for seating priority, which only happens to us in Australia once every 3 or 4 years (with the exception of this year cos of Eddie's tour). Don't like this whole revised idea of having to pay more for very little. I'll be sticking to the cheaper membership, it's only a fan club and $50 is a ridiculous amount of money to pay for just a fan club membership, no matter what "extras" you get.

essentially paying $20 ($30 for international) more for what we're getting already..

this is ten pounds of monkey crap in a five pound bag

    Well put.

But don't you know the rules? Rubysdad (Tim) says you can't criticize something if you haven't been in a band for 20 years and toured the world. That's what he posted when people gave valid complaints about the radio show on Sirius, like requesting that the show actually have some flow and not dead air. I do not think he will take kindly to these complaints, valid though they may be. I know you are wondering what band he was in for 20 years and toured the world with. I am too.

i disagree with most of the bs i've read in this thread, but i do agree with the fact that 10c is a bit sensitive and takes criticism a bit too personally sometimes.
If nothing is everything, I'll have it all

Lot of whining here from folks. You think $40 is too much for a fan club membership which gives you so much? Are you ****ing kidding me? Consider yourselves lucky you've gotten all that you have for $20 per year this far.

I'd pay $100 per year for all 10c does for us. If you don't like the new system, drop your membership. Typical Americans with their spoiled sense of entitlement: gimme, gimme, gimme.

Umm..please enlighten me? What exactly does the fan club "give us?" What is "all that I have gotten" for the $20 years so far? The fan club magazine and vinyl are cool but there hasn't been much else.
