    This is Maxs favorite track off of " Darkness "

    He spoke at length about it and remembered back to 78 , back in the studio working with Bruce .

    This box set is going to be a dandy.

    The way they filmed this performance of Darkness in its entirety was raw-

    with no audience ( at the Paramount Theatre in Asbury ) ,

    and the musicianship really shines thru from every member.

    From Maxs drums to the Big Mans horns to Gary Talent and the Professor on Piano-

    Even Bruces guitar ! this is a must have !

    Just curious, was the '09 Streets Of Fire intro the same as the original album's, or was it like the '78 tour version?

    Picked up the boxset today. 3.5 hours later, I'm about half way through and haven't even started Houston yet.
    Awesome stuff - The Promise is a superb collection of songs. The Paramount performance blew me away. Something in the Night has always been one of my favourite Springsteen songs, and this version is incredibly intense. The Thrill Hill vault is also very cool - especially the newly edited Phoenix footage. If you haven't got your hands on the set yet, clear a whole day and prepare for a serious treat.

    Even the packaging is incredible. This is how boxsets should be done.

    They were crushed and dying in the dirt.

    And get away without getting hurt,
    But they caught us at the state line,

    And left us running burned and blind,

    How much is the boxset?

    Am I right in remembering that there were some video recordings of some concerts in there? Was Hammersmith one of them?

    Can't wait for Tuesday.

    Springsteen's '78 Darkness tour is one of the greatest tours in R&R history. Every show was simply epic. You can stream the '78 Winterland boot at Wolfgang's Vault.

    The Hammersmith show was from '75, during the Born to Run tour. I believe that was the first time Bruce played in Europe.

    The video in the boxset is a complete show from the Houston Summit in December, '78. From what I gather, its awesome. Only drawback is its one of the few performances of Backstreets from that tour that didn't include the improvised extended "Sad Eyes" interlude.

    Not sure where you are so can't say how much the boxset is for you: €95 in Ireland, £75 in Britain.

    There are 3 DVDs in the set. As Lanternjaw said, one of them is the (almost) complete show in Houston, 8 December 1978. I say almost because they obviously had tape issues, and the last song is not complete.
    The other 2 DVDs are a documentary on the making of the album (very good) and the final one has two parts: A live performance, but without an audience, of the Darkness album in the Paramount Theatre, New Jersey, last Christmas. Sounds weird, but it's riveting. That DVD also has a 'Vault' section, with 7 songs recorded live, in the studio and in rehearsals between '76 and '78, and 5 songs from the Phoenix '78 show.

    Add in 2 CDs of mostly unreleased material, and a remastered original album, and believe me it's worth the money.

    Sound is punchier, with a little more clarity in terms of instrument audibility. Big improvement on the original album, though my ears aren't trained well enough to tell if it has significant compression.

    Listening now..Sounds great! I haven't heard the old bootlegs so can't say how they compare but these songs sound really good to me.
