Not sure how the topic went to having sex with minors, but just to clarify, in case you didn't look into this case deep enough. An 11 year old girl was sodomized and beaten, they then poured gasoline on her and burned her to death. And you people rant on about a civilized society. News flash....we do not live in a civilized society! These fuckers do not deserve another breath..................unless it's a breath inside the gas chamber.

O.k, what about if 20 year old Pedro had sex with his 14 year old girlfriend in Spain, or 30 year old Louis has sex with his 15 year old girlfriend in France?

What I'm getting at here is, is this merely a question of adherence to a country's laws, or something else? Because in over 20 European countries consensual sex with an under 16 isn't a crime.

i think it comes from a society with a puritanical hang up about sex. i also think 'society' wrongly pushes its morality onto its entire populace. it is of the opinion that a 14 year old cant possibly make the decision to engage in consensual sex(and believe me they can)... nor a 16 year old, yet we allow 16 year olds to drive. a far greater responsibilty imo.

i think it is an adherence to a countrys law, but i think those laws are misguided. is it about saving the children? is it about taking responsibility for those members of society we think arent responsible enough to make such a decision themselves. but those laws are based on something else. it is an abhorrance to kiddie porn? is it a way to control the most private of all mankinds actions. actions which arent so easily regulated.. but at least we can legislate it to some degree..and so well decide 'children' shouldnt have sex and they mos def cant be having it with a partner over the age of 18 or whatever. and when is a child considered an adult? why is it defined by an arbitrary number?

The age of criminal responsibility in England is 10, but the age of sexual consent is 16. No contradiction there.

sex is bad. meat is murder and murder can always be justified......... by the state. 8-)

'Deserve' has nothing to do with it. If someone doesn't deserve to live then why doesn't your God remove them from the Earth? Or maybe you think the judge in your local courthouse is God?

Bullshit. Show me where I've talked down to someone. We're debating the death penalty. You may think it's a subject to get poetical over. I don't. Period.

well you know chad.. if one believes in God and judgement day and also believes it is just to take a life then theres going to be a problem in the afterlife. but then again the bible so confusing and contradictory that who knows whatll happen. on a whim God just might decide to smite us all.

sorry it's making you feel ill. kinda like how i feel when i read some of the words people use in their posts in this thread when they are expressing themselves.

why do some of the pro death penalty people feel the need to go into such violent and great detail about how they would like to dispose of the offender?

why can't you just say i support the death penalty. why do you have to act like an animal yourself with some of the terms you use?

I find that behaviour disturbing and creepy too. feel free to support the death penalty if that is how you feel, but the violence some describe, and the absolute delight they seem to have when saying it, is just sickening. really it is.

no he doesn't talk down to people. it's a debate. he sticks to the topic, doesn't use emotion and gets to the point and backs up what he says with facts. some people can't handle that.

i have only ever see it said when someone is getting their asses destroyed in a debate against him because they can't keep up.

support the death penalty if thats how you feel and hell you are free to post as you see fit. i'll never understand though, why some of you (through your choice of violent words and utter glee when talking of paybacks) act like the animals you are condemning.

    it's creepy.

Maybe some people feel for the victims and their families in a way that makes us very angry. I imagine a crime like this happening to my family, or god forbid, my daughter, and yes I get very angry at the scums that commit these violent inhumane crimes. These people do very sick things without ever considering for a moment about what the victim is going through, all they care about is their own sick pleasure. I watched a movie on Ted Bundy the other night. All he ever thought about was himself. I got pleasure out of watching how he freaked out before his death. What comes around goes around. Fuck em!

I hope I never get to a point in my life where my opinions and my morality are dictated by Hollywood movies.

    chadwick (and OnTheEdge),

When you reduce everything to the lowest common denominator, when you dumb everything down to "garbage", "evil" etc, it makes it very easy to start making sweeping judgments and to see no consequence in killing people. The problem here is this: it's completely divorced from reality. The world is just not like that, and however much you try to convince yourselves that certain human beings (whatever awful things they have done) are "garbage", to make it easier for you justifying killing them, the real world is a little more complex.

Let me be clear: there is not a single person on this thread who is saying that what these people have done isn't despicable, reprehensible and deserve justice. But the death penalty is in no way just, and you seem blissfully unaware of the difference between prudent justice and mindless vengeance. Continuing to give more and more examples, followed by how you would do exactly the same to them is not going to make any difference to the debate and only serves to illustrate the hypocrisy, and double-standards of your position all the more clearly. If you want to win people over to your side, you could not be going about it in a less effective way.

Your entire approach to this thread has not been to intelligently debate the pros and cons of the death penalty, but to embark on unthinking hysterical polemics that do not strengthen your position, but rather strengthen the anti-death penalty position. When you start describing with sickening glee how you would do exactly the same to these people, all you do is illustrate the mindless hypocrisy that makes the death penalty so morally and judicially bankrupt. You expect us to agree with you that when murderers do awful things they are "monsters, inhuman, garbage", but that when you do the same to them - and seem to take some sickminded and twisted pleasure in it! - that you are somehow noble and just?!

Quite frankly, chadwick, the more you go on about your little vigilante "fantasy in your head" (to use your own rather telling words!), the more I start to realise that the way you think is not so very different from that of the "garbage" you vilify.

For all your many posts, you have added precisely nothing of worth to the debate.

    and that's fine
but i won't change my mind
