Ok, what the article says is that they are finding loads and loads of ancient artifacts from Vikings in these once snow packed regions. So, since they are finding these artifacts in places that couldn't be excavated because there was to much snow mean that once there was not that much snow and that people actually lived there before the ice formed? I'm calling another Bullshit on the whole "Global Warming" thing.
Again I'm all for recycling and clean air but to think we are actually changing the climate? I am finding it more and more harder to believe.

I agree for the most part as I think many of the people that so in to that stuff seem like they're just doing it to feel good about themselves and are leading unfullfilled lives, but obviously I'm against the oil spill and nuclear energy, but the earth has been around for a long time, it will destroy us before we destroy it. Man will always lose vs. mother nature.0

We have a duty to respect the planet, but global warming is nothing more than a power-grabbing hoax. Thanks for the article.Bristow, VA (5/13/10)0 -
Just gotta say I disagree with the logic going on in this thread.......shadowcast wrote:http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20100914/lf_nm_life/us_climate_vikings_1

So ice is melting at an alarming pace...and you are using the article as evidence to disprove global warming? Yes, the Earth will have its natural shifts in temperatures, but unless scientists have completely reversed their data, I'm pretty sure the recent temperature runups are much faster than average and coincide directly with the industrial age......marcos wrote:the earth has been around for a long time, it will destroy us before we destroy it. Humans have been on this planet for like .000001% of its existance.....and we hit the ground running with trying to fuck it up, thats for sure.......0 -
The only way to prevent global warming is to stop having so many children. The earth is used to our numbers in the hundreds of thousands. Not billions. That's a lot of energy for billions of people.. We've gone from 1 billion to 7 billion in the last 100 years alone.. Mother nature just hasn't slapped us for it yet.0

how do you know what numbers the earth can sustain? sure if we stopped populating wed stabilise and eventually decrease in population. but ive said it once and ill say it again... its a management problem. we arent living sustainably and continue to rape mother nature and we wonder why the earths groaning. no one will take the initiative to decrease our reliance on fossil fuels... all tye do is talk and talk and run focus groups and 'studies'. just fucking do it already before i have to start drinking my pee. where are our leaders.. and should we even be relying on them anyway...hear my name

I don't think we can live sustainable as we are and global warming is a direct result of it. Sure we could be more efficient, but I don't think at this point it would help much, just slow down the process. It's going to catch up with us.
If you haven't read it, I highly recommend reading Ishmael by Daniel Quinn. We started altering the planet the second we started planted crops.0 -
Do you shit in your living room.
do you piss in your bedroom
cause thats what we are doing to our planet
regardless of global warming.
Isnt this whole debate , this time in our growth as humans on this one little oasis in a galaxy of dried desolate places. I cannot see why we cannot develop cleaner , greener ways to do things . Or are we stupid
Why do we need all this consumer crap. we dont
Food

is all we need. everthing else is just salad dressing.
sure its tasty. but the salad would be just as filling without itAUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE0 -

yes ive read ishmael.
slowing down the process is good but dont you think?? no reason we need to go screaming into the abyss at top speed.perhaps we can slow it down enough to give us space to make real changes that make a different for future generations. its an ongoing process. theres no quick fix and the bigheads need to understand that and act accordingly instead of being beholden to the greed of the corporate world.

200 years ago, human beings suddenly started producing vast amount more carbon waste than ever before, and have been doing so on a massive and ever-increasing rate ever since. That's every single day, for 200 years, by first millions, and now billions, of people around the world, churning out more and more effluent that has nowhere go but stay in the atmosphere. And you find it hard to believe it would have an impact?! Even with ever-increasing amounts of evidence from people infinitely more qualified than you to corroborate it?
I am finding it "more and more harder" [sic] to believe people who can still bury their heads in the sand about this...93: Slane

Well global warming is most definitely not here in the UK (I think). A shitty and cold summer, following an snowy and cold winter. That's 2 snowy winters on the trot. There are so called qualified experts that believe in GW and others that think it's bull.
I have an open mind.0 -

By the very fact that it's called "global" warming, looking at it from the perspective on one tiny corner of the globe is meaningless. Global warming means that the average temperature of the globe is increasing. In fact, global warming refers as much to continuing rises in ocean temperatures as in atmospheric temperatures.
"Climate change" is a much more nuanced term that skirts the problems of people thinking "global warming' bullshit cos it was cold today".
Fact of the matter is, on a global scale, 13 of the warmest years on record were in the last 14 years, whether or not parts of the globe were colder.93: Slane

In my short time on this planet, I've observed the following patterns for the midwest.
1980's - Cold winters, lots of snow; Hot humid summers
1990's - Tepid winters, some large snowfall but usually it melted within a few days; Hot humid summers
2000 - 2005: Same as the 90's
2005 - 2010: Cold winters, lots of snow; Summers don't seem to be quite as hot or humid (still bad at times)
I don't know what to make of that.Be Excellent To Each OtherParty On, Dudes!0 -
Global Warming has got to be one of the dumbest monikers that mankind has ever come up with. Now anytime somebody suggests that our actions have any environmental impact someone else points out that we've had a cold summer/winter which apparently negates the damage which was done. In the end, all the scientific community has done is given most lay people another reason to ignore them completely.
Global Warming is just bad marketing.0 -

"Where's all this global warming" or "where's global warming when you need it".............. God I hate when people say that. Not because of their inaccuracy, but more because it's just annoying. By the end of winter I have to resist the urge to just punch them square in the face.0 -

The term global warming is deceiving...it doesn't actually mean that the weather is warmer than usual. True indications of climate change is erratic weather in general, and that can mean more intense and frequent storms, and temperature extremes which include colder temps than usual.0 -

I still think we need a bit of global warming around here.0
