Global Warming not looking good

why is that every several months, there are one of these posts ... i mean - can people say more ignorant things?
forgive the candor but you skeptics are talking our of your ass ... how many have died in pakistan this year? ... mudslides and floods are ravaging china ... every day you can pretty much read up on an extreme weather event somewhere in the world ...
the science is very clear on this subject ... do yourself a favour and read up on it instead of reading from people who have agendas or have not educated themselves on the subject ...
although global warming does confuse people ... it only confuses people who won't bother to educate themselves ... the world IS WARMING ... look at the records of the last 20 years ... all the warmest years on record are in the past 2 decades ... just because one experiences a cold spell - doesn't mean the world isn't warming ... Climate Change is the immediate consequence of Global Warming ...

In the end, all the scientific community has done is given most lay people another reason to ignore them completely.
Global Warming is just bad marketing.
"Where's all this global warming" or "where's global warming when you need it".............. God I hate when people say that. Not because of their inaccuracy, but more because it's just annoying. By the end of winter I have to resist the urge to just punch them square in the face.
Every single winter, without fail, here in Louisiana I have to listen to my father-in-law rail on about "where's your global warming now, you idiot?"
Then every summer, when climatologists are talking about record heatwaves and the decade being the warmest on record (topping the 90s, the previous warmest on record, which beat the 80s, then the warmest on record), it's back to blaming Obama for the world's ills. Like a stuck record. And I listen for the voice inside my head... nothing. I'll do this one myself.0 -

Back in the 70's, scientist were running around screaming that the world was "cooling" too fast. Now it is warming? Maybe it is just a balance. As far as unusual weather incidents, history if filled with mystifying experiences our great adventurers ran into and recorded. Nothing is changing that drastically that I have to alter what I do and how I behave. Science is only as good as the person inputting the info into the system, and that system is run and supported by those who want to find a certain finding. Al comes to mind...complete moron and he convinced others to jump on his bandwagon. sad, truly sad.

Oh yes, "global warming" has been disproved!
Can I go idle my hummer in peace now?
Well actually in fact I don't chose to believe in climate change anyways, makes me feel better about the damage I do.
Because ignoring every other facet of our environmental problems also goes hand in hand with taking sides in the "global warming" debate. :roll:live pearl jam is best pearl jam0 -
pick a side on this issue. if you are wrong on the right, we all die.
if you are wrong on the left, we still have a cleaner planet.
i'd rather do what we can on the off chance all of those very smart scientist that have dedicated their lives to this research might be right, rather than ignore them and face extinction.0 -

sure, we're all gonna die, might as well make the most of it-intelligently.0 -

LikeAnOcean wrote:You really can't point at specific weather incidents and pin it to global warming. There's always been extreme and unusual weather that found ways to kill us even before our numbers reached the billions. Maybe it happens more frequently now, but we are also more frequently populating the earth. Climate change is something that happens over decades, and honestly, I don't think more carbon dioxide in the air is the problem. There was once much more in the air... but I won't argue that we aren't causing it. Like I mentioned earlier, I think the problem has more to do with our extreme population numbers.
You can't argue 7 billion people can avoid altering a planet that evolved to support our numbers naturally in the hundreds of thousands, I don't care how green we get.
uhhh ... again - i respectfully ask you to educate yourself on the science because what you are saying is arguing the world is flat ...0 -

uhhh ... a few rogue scientists get published in TIME magazine does not even come close to the consensus we have right now on the subject ...
why the heck do we have international conferences and treaties if this is a hoax? ... almost every country in the world has conceeded that global climate change is caused by man even Russia ... is the corporate-backed media so backwards that in the US, we still are having this debate ...
the debate ship sailed years ago ... the only question now is whether we do something about this or just suffer the consequences ...0 -

My common sense tells me that humans REALLY haven't been able to measure the climate spread over the entire earth for more than the last several decades. Scientists will tell you the data collected in that time technically shouldn't be statistically relevant. The only people we should try to get even with...
...are those who've helped us.

please tell me one scientist that says the data collected by the IPCC is not statistically relevant ...
also - by continuing to focus on whether we can accurately measure weather over decades or a century is another indication that you also have not educated yourself on the science ... sorry - but, what you guys are saying has been addressed years ago ...0 -
"I don't care that there is a small army of very smart, clever, and educated people working on this stuff every day that have their data, hypotheses and conclusions reviewed and tested by other smart, clever and educated people. I also don't understand much of the reasoning and methods of these people so I just discount them. Besides, some guy on the tv/radio, who also doesn't really understand all of this either, broke it all down to me in oversimplistic terms, so I got a better handle on all of these big questions and problems than the army of very smart, clever, and educated people working on this stuff every day that have their data, hypotheses and conclusions reviewed and tested by other smart, clever and educated people."

It's just so much easier to ignore
It's just so much easier to not read bad news.
It's just so much easier to not do anything.
Nobody likes a downer.
So Why do you wanna bring me down?
Let's just pretend this doesn't exist
Let's just deny it
Let's just hope it goes away
Just don't tell me any bad news
Cause I just won't listen
Just don't tell me any bad news
Cause I just won't believe you
It's just so much easier that way.

People believe what they want to believe because it fits their agendas. Educated people calling Global Warming (or Climate Change if you'd prefer) a hoax are either in denial or truly misunderstanding the basic science of it all. We are burning fossil fuels at ever increasing rates. These fossil fuels emit copious amounts of CO2 when burned. CO2 is a greenhouse gas. The global temperatures are steadily rising. As an earlier poster said, there are temperature variances depending on where you live, for not entirely understood reasons all of the time, but it is not part of the overall trend. Last winter was the coldest winter in Houston in like 20 something years. It doesn't mean Global Warming is a hoax. The global warming trend continues and will continue until we find a way to limit our generation of greenhouse gases.0
