Add that to the contenders...
I was amazed that it took until the 4th page for Midlake to be mentioned. Such a beautifully hypnotic album.

Ha ha, I hadn't even noticed that! :D

I got the hold of the new Endless Boogie and Eels albums today too. On first listen "Tomorrow Morning" isn't quite as good as "End Times" but it's still a very good record. Endless Boogie's new one is really, really dirty (in a very good way!)

I think id have to go for Brandon Boyd- The Wild Trapeze.Closely followed by Far and She & Him.
By far the biggest disappointment is Stone Temple Pilots.

for me right now, it's neck and neck between:

land of talk - cloak and cipher
    black keys - brothers
i'm more a fan of popular bands.. like the bee-gees, pearl jam

True indeed, a mate bought it and saved me wasting my money on it. I thought the first two were ok but Welcome To Discovery Park was a duffer too!!
I'd have to say Isobel Campbell/Mark Lanegan or The Dead Weather for this year.

I agree. I listened to a few tracks off the new album and wasn't impressed. Welcome to Discovery Park has a couple good songs but was overall too slow. Shame is by far their best.

The Terror of Cosmic Loneliness by Tony Da Gatorra vs Gruff Rhys

There's nothing else out there that sounds like this!

    but I've also loved

    The Suburbs - Arcade Fire
    Teen Dream - Beach House
    Go - Jonsi
Hawk - Isobel Campbell and Mark Lanegan

it's been a pretty slow year for Rock/heavy metal though :(

I know the Ben Harper album came out last year but I only heard it this year for the first time so that's why I'm counting it :D

the national's "high violet," i started listening to about three weeks ago and was so blown away i wanted to grab it on vinyl asap. glad i did because it sounds fantastic. american slang is also up there; saw gaslight anthem last week for the second time and the new songs were right on. these 2 are my fav albums so far of 2010

That is probably the most polar set of opposites I have ever seen. Kudos on 2 though, I didn't expect any PJ fans to be a fan of them.

    In no particular order:
    1. Dillinger Escape Plan - Option Paralysis
    2. Avenged Sevenfold - Nightmare
    3. Big Boi - Sir Luscious Left Foot the Son of Chico Dusty
    4. Deftones - Diamond Eyes
    5. Eminem - Recovery
    6. Kaki King - Junior
    7. The Dead Weather - Sea of Cowards
    8. MGMT - Congratulations

Man, this year has been kind of dead for me. I should probably hunt around and check out some more stuff from this year.
    Thanks EPOTTSIII!
