    *Brutally honest opinion alert"

I hope the guy who jumped off the balcony is ok. Now the niceties are out of the way... what a stupid, selfish prick. I'm guessing that he was completely off his face to leap from that balcony, which to me says that he was so f*cking smashed that he probably can't remember anything of the show itself, which is a complete waste of a ticket to the hottest gig in town. I feel sorry for all those decent people who wanted to go to the show but couldn't get a ticket. He ruined / tarnished the night of those fans that saw it happen which can't have been pleasant at all. He ruined the night of the paramedics who probably dread one thing more than most - a balcony jumper. He ruined the night of the sound desk staff, who I heard were pretty shook up with what they saw. He could have ruined the night for the band as well, although I believe they didn't see it. On top of all this, he has possibly ruined his life and maybe that of his loved ones. I'm sorry if I sound harsh here, I honestly hope he's ok out of simple human compassion, but people like him make me despise humanity sometimes.

I just LOVED it! It was only my third show ever (and my first concert ever outside of The Netherlands, AND my first time in Ireland) and I could add yet another 12 songs which I never heard live before (there's now only 9 songs I've heard all 3 times - can't be said enough that PJ is just awesome for that alone) . The overall setlist was really nice, and yet there's still so much I haven't heard yet - let's hope for a nice setlist next sunday in Nijmegen. Favourites (and not yet heard before): Long Road, Down, Porch and Kick Out The Jams.

I was some 25 meters from the stage (Mike-side) until halfway the first encore when my girlfriend got a bit tired of the bumpy crowd so we moved to the back. Haven't noticed anything about that balcony jumper, though we did see 2 persons being removed by the security (and not in a soft way ;) )

The only downside is that I should have bought one of the Guinness shirts, but since my suitcase was already very close to the maximum weight of hand baggage I'd decided against it. Anybody know what happens with the unsold shirts? Available online somewhere perhaps (or does anyone have a spare? )

Overall: the Irish are mad! Wildest crowd I've ever seen at a gig...

I thought dublin was pretty good. Even on an off night (and this wasn't an off night) PJ are still a great live band. First time I've heard Nothingman live for 10 years and that was a real special moment for me. For the first time ever i had to retire from the pit as Kick out the jams started as the first hour just about killed me. i'm not getting any younger. I was dead on my feet by that point but watched the last couple of songs from the back of the arena while I tried to rehydrate.

Long Road is a great opener and builds up the tension brilliantly until it's released with Once. Not For you was particualrly brilliant and a great singalong for better man. i don't know how anyone can complain about the setlist. You never ever know what you're going to get and it is always a joy when a personal fav makes it into the set like Nothingman, the highlight of Dublin for me.

Wasn't as good as Belfast but still superb.

Re the show at the O2, this was my 6th Pearl Jam show, all of which have been in Ireland. The band seem to get better with age, I was at the front of 40,000 people in Slane in 1993 when they played support to Neil Young and if people think the O2 was mad, they should have been there, will never forget when the band stopped playing in the middle of Evenflow and asked everyone to back up and look after their neighbour, and started back at the exact point they stopped. Christ, after that I have always opted for a seat at a Pearl Jam show as I want to enjoy it, rembember it and participate in it withought fighting for a glimpse at the stage. Regarding the set list, I have mixed emotions, any PJ show is a special experience and with 20 years of songs to pick from, each show is always different. I thouroughly enjoyed their choice of songs on the night with Nothingman being my particular favourite. Id love to have heard, Tremor Christ Now Way or Present Tense, which were played in Belfast but I couldnt make Belfast due to a sick fiance. The new song was awsome live. I think regarding setlists the only solution is to pack in our jobs and apply for a position as a roadie with the band because over the course of the next couple of weeks they will get through most of their repatiore. Anyway, here are few words to describe my feelings on the night....

Transcended by emotion, and On a wave of expectation,
Driven by adoration, For a night of pure elation,
"And I wish for so long", He began to say
We have all walked the Long Road, To be here today...............

As the "Waves came crashing" from each note that they play
"Delivered us wings" and gives us hope for each day
"Arms wide open" as we celebrate being Alive!
Eddie stalks the edge of the stage , looks like he wants to dive!

Now "Yes I understand that every" show must end oh,
Yellow Ledbetter rings aloud, Mike Mcready drives the crowd, on
So thank you Pearl Jam, We are all your biggest fan, oh,
And now as I sit at home, I know some day you'll return, oh...
  • Was a brilliant show with good setlist and amazing crowd.
Just found some news on balcony guy i thought i'd share... After Eddie's joke in Belfast was sure he didn't hurt himslef badly but after seeing him lying on the floor like that was reassuring to read..

  • I had fantastic time at the show. I missed my 10 club pre-sale email and took my chances with ticketmaster. Bought 4 seated tickets. Got flights hotel and tickets as Christmas gifts for my sister, daughter and nephew.

This was my daughters (10) and nephews (13) first Pearl Jam gig and they said it was phenomenal. I'm not good with heights but when a 10 year old is up showing you how its done what can you do?
Thankyou to Pearl Jam and their truly amazing fans who came up to chat to us. Its lovely when people tell you how cool you are bringing your kids to the show. :D

Strummer is a legend! I choked up when Ed was talking about it - still remember when I found out he'd passed! got to thank Ed for the tribute after the gig in Belfast.

Saw Joe just a month before he left us and he was in great form, looked so healthy and full of life! Make the most of life - you never know what's around the corner!

Can any one tell me what song they played at 21:45? That was when my son was born and one of the first things I thought of when I held him for the first time a few minutes later were the lyrics for the first verse of "Just Breathe".
Still can't believe I met Mike Mccready at the Guggenheim and got a pic with him!!!!!

I really wanted to write that this was the best Pearl Jam concert I have been too but that would be a lie.

    Feel the same...

I mean expererience ise, going to dublin and also where I was at during the concert was great. But songwise it wasn't that interesting to me (and I'm not someone who screams for rarities).

I don't know if it was because I was tired from queing all day or listening too much to the Spectrum boots but when Severed Hand started I felt tired and sort of "get this song out of the way".

I also feek Amongst The Wavesdoesn't work, cheesy cheesy song.

Loved Not For You and Nothingman though. But I just felt they could have spiced up the setlist some... It was like a festival gig.

BTW - anyone know what the song scratched of from the setlist before the first encore was? ITFW?

Just got done seeing the Dublin and Belfast shows. Both were great.

The new song Of The Earth (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFnbU1Ewwk8) was the highlight of the Dublin show, along with the Arms Aloft cover (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1f1E1nnKpI) from Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros. EV mentioned that Strummer's band was going to open for PJ on a recent European tour but then Strummer died.

The crowd was really good in Dublin. The front was a little rough but not too bad. The band seemed to be more thankful than usual for the warm reception.

The extended jam sessions and tempo changes in Of The Earth show that PJ could tweak their style a bit and be successful with it.

I thought EV's vocals in Kick Out The Jams were fantastic.

Thanks to Aussie friends Xavier and Jaye, whom I met at the Christchurch, New Zealand show and are doing many of the European shows this tour. They offered to drive me to Belfast right after the Dublin show without even being sure if I was an axe murderer. Sleeping on the grass in Belfast at 2:45 AM until sunrise was another heartwarming memory.

While the entry into the arena wasn't organized very well, props should go out to the security guards in front of the stage in Dublin. They did a good job with managing the crowd and getting people out.

I was really underwhelmed by the Dublin show. The Relentless Seven were an amazing start, but Pearl Jam didn't really bring it at this gig. The fact it was a hits gig aside, they were very sloppy. A lot of flubbed notes and you could tell there was some real jetlag going on there. I did enjoy how they jammed the shit out of the new song but I'm surprised that nothing else could touch that performance on the night.

As for the guy who fell, what a moron. I'm just glad he didn't land on someone below. From what I understand he was very drunk and walking along the rail of the balcony. I don't know if he then fell or did in fact jump, but either way, he's an idiot for doing that in the first place. Wreckless and inconsiderate. I have it on good word that he will live but is currently paralyzed. Don't know if that's for good or what, but I'm just really glad no one else was hurt. Physically at least.... i really feel for the witnesses.

Got home yesterday from Dublin to Boston and I finally have a chance to post my experience...

Being that this was my first time in Ireland and first time seeing Pearl Jam outside of the states, it was going to be special. Dublin was a nice city with a lot of history and with an economy that seems to be getting stronger. And for a few days there, everywhere I went I saw people with Pearl Jam shirts on. I went to the pre-party the night before the show (which was the day I arrived - I was surprised I was able to stay up late!) and that was fun. Met a couple of nice people there, had a few drinks, and watched a few guys play some PJ tunes (I requested Sad and they gave it a good try, for a second). It was a great atmosphere being around so many PJ fans from many different places.

The show - We got our Ten Club tickets and wristbands and waited on line to get in - and I managed to get a spot three rows from the stage on Mike's side. Then the waiting - Ben Harper was good, but I was really excited to see PJ up close. Finally they came on and started with Long Road.

Now after being spoiled by getting to see some great shows in the Boston area, I thought the setlist as a whole was below average. What made it special, obviously, was Of The Earth and Arms Aloft in Aberdeen, and I had never seen them play Kick Out the Jams before. Everything else was pretty standard - it did seem like they realized that they haven't played Dublin in awhile so they played most of the hits. And that is what the crowd as a whole probably wanted - they got excited for Even Flow, and I heard some complain about them not playing Jeremy. They were great on stage though - Mike kept coming over to where I was standing and one time as I was taking a picture, it looked like he pointed at me and posed - I was kind of surprised and took a picture of just his guitar and not of his face! But I did get some great pics of Mike (and got a guitar pick) and even Eddie came over and I got a couple of great closeups (I will have to post the pics later, if anyone if interested).

This show was special since I probably won't get to be this close to the stage again and because it was in Ireland. The crowd was interesting - different but kind of the same from a U.S. crowd. You had some cool people in the area who just wanted to enjoy the show, and you had the guys who just wanted to push everyone out of the way to get up close and be obnoxious (and they always seem to gravitate towards where I am standing!) I would have loved to go to the Belfast show since the setlist was better in my opinion, but this was a short trip. I am interested to see how the rest of the tour is going to shape up and what other surprises are in store for the crowds!

Thank you, Pearl Jam, for another interesting experience and I will see you guys in Boston next time!

Hard. Strange venue. The big empty space behind us. Two stores, looked like playing in a department store… The Popcorn and bloody expensive Carlsberg (6 euros?!).

Very strong setlist tho. Energy. The Long Road, Once, The Fixer, Why Go, Corduroy, Severed Hand - ??!! . Lukin into Not for You transition?! Crystal chorus in Nothing Man. Got Some – Comatose combo ?!

The New song ! Man… where did that come from? Surely not from the Backspacer era…. Complicated song, changin tempo …. Its just Pearl Jam who can stick a brand new song, especially sounding like this into their setlist of a european leg tour opener…

Best Porch ever. Small town and Better Man brought tears. Bit overwhelmed by all those whole day beers. Yellow Ledbetter… Energy was so high.

    Belfast
One big 10c party really. All started on the train… hotel…. Third row waiting. The people we met, the people we talked to. The people we took care of and them took care of us. The couple in their mid 60’s couple… The band looked like really enjoying it. Very relaxed. Love in the air. Happy Birthday Brendan O’Brien ?

Setlist wise? Insignificance – Present Tense – Daughter. Save You - Given to Fly - Black – Rearviewmirror ?!! SOLAT! Jeremy (felt in love with Jeff’s bass! So sexy!) Leash! Crazy Mary ! and ofcourse the crazy atmosphere during YL … Eddie in eye contact with that guy in the 10c seating sector … so funny.

Oh god. Love this band. Love the whole PJ family. Everyone that we met. Wish I knew them all by names…

Cant wait for Berlin. And kinda glad im not doing any festivals as PJ are really the best when playing just for their fans... But wishing all of you guys outhere in Hyde Park tonite best of luck and another breathtaking Pearl Jam experience.
