This was the first time I had standing tickets at a PJ concert (many thanks to Ten Club for that!
I'm in my 40's and questioned the wisdom of my decision, especially as I had my very slightly built wife with me. I warned her that things would get 'tough' (in a good way) and asked her if she wanted to try and be near the front. She said she did.
This meant queueing for a few hours - hats off to those who were there before us. However when we finally got in we were very near to the front, right in front of Mike Mc-Fucking-Cready!! Anyway I thought Ben Harper and The Relentless 7 were superb, and some one I'd like to see again, but it wasn't too long before the piano music that heralded PJ's arrival started.
As usual when I'm at a PJ gig, they started with Long Road. Even though I thought for a split second 'not again' I still started crying as I always have done at the start of every concert. After that I just remember being at one of the best parties of all time. Mike McCready was off hid tits and at previous shows in the seats I never appreciated just what a showman he is. He really knows how to play the crowd. It appeared to me that all the guys were really really enjoying themselves and I felt we got a virtuoso performance from them all.
Aside from the performance, a few things that will stay with me from my first 'floor' gig;
My wife survived 3 songs before being one of the first to be plucked out by the superb security crew.
The French couple directly in front of my wife and I were the nicest people you could ever wish to meet. I know that the Frenchman took some fantastic pictures and hope he sees this and puts them up online. I had every intention of giving him my precious pick, until he got one thrown to him.
I was soaked for about 3 hours after the gig as I got SOOOOO wet from sweat and water. I also got someones size 9 boots in my face as they crowd-surfed (or were trying to get out the only way they could - I'll reserve judgement on that).
All in all, for me maybe as it was my first on the floor, it was the best show ever. I know I ached for three days afterwards but it was worth it. Time to start saving so that I can follow them across the States next year.
After the song (Even Flow) Eddie Vedder said, “We have to play that song every night otherwise Mike McCready will f*cking kill somebody”
Have to say this was an awesome show!! and must congratulate the o2 on getting rid of the shithole that was The Point and making it a proper music venue!
I thought it was much better than Belfast and London, the crowd was up for it and the band more.
And this was all while i was waving the poster tube around like a maniac at times i suppose.
We even had someone falling from the first tier, as if the setlist wasn't enough to get us excited
Glasgow 00, Dublin 06, Lisbon 06, Lisbon 06, Munich 07, London 07, New York 08, New York 08, Manchester 09, London 09, Dublin 10, Belfast 10, London 10, Berlin 10, Manchester 12, Manchester 12, Berlin 12, Berlin 12, Amsterdam 14, Amsterdam 14, Berlin 14, Leeds 14,
Okay, so I've finished my four show little tour and am finally going to post about them all.
I think after Belfast I kind of forgot about Dublin, it was such a great show and IMO the better of the two Ireland shows. Looking back at the set list though and there were so many great moments.
Once as a second song was absolutely killer. So good to hear, awesome for the crowd and really unexpected for me. Down and Nothingman were fantastic too.
Then there was the new song, which was really exciting to hear. You could tell everyone was really suprised and listening super hard (if that's possible - I know I was certainly trying to absorb the experience as much as possible so my stupid brain wouldn't forget how it went after the show!).
Also great version of betterman with the full save it for later, which was cool.
Overall it was a great show, loved every second, great crowd too - I didn't think Belfast could be as good when it was over. I was wrong, but I shouldn't let that take anything away from the Dublin show!
great gig, but seemed to be going thru the motions a wee bit? Everytime they have played they always say 'we wont leave it so long next time' ! 93, 96, 00, 06! 10.. if they left it any longer we will be dead!!
and the 'curfew' thingy!!! why not start a bit earlier then if they 'want' to play longer... just a thought...
It was great to see you H and it was the perfect moment I guess... Dublin, PJ gig, pre-party, both of us drunk as farts... ahahah really great to see you and let me know when you guys are back in the Old Smoke!
Will do definitely... always love seein ya... just wish I'd been a bit soberer so I could remember what we were talking about Next time we'll meet earlier, ok?

I'm kinda new to the whole boots-thing; so i'm gonna ask a stupid question:
Do i have to wait and be a little more patient for the cd-version of the boot? Since the european ones are only digital download?
I am still doubting which boots to buy. Dublin and Nijmegen for sure, since i was there and really loved the shows. I was also at Werchter, but i don't know if i want it. And Berlin seemed to be really special, but i don't know if it's worth the (extra) money.

Me and Mrs. Veddertown had an afternoon listening to the boot today and it was her first time hearing it all since the gig itself. I may have listened to it more than the other shows because it was my first but I do think this was a special show despite what a few people have said about them being a bit rusty. Great memories came back to us today about our great two days in Dublin and for me was the best part of the tour. Meeting Leanne, Dimi, Marco, Yvi and Ed in the Hard Rock, meeting big Phil, Ian, Dave, Paul and Susan the next day, sitting downwind of some rather nice grass on the Liffey soaking up the sun and especially coming to my senses half way through Corduroy and realising that yes, I have finally made it to a PJ gig and knowing that I probably spent the first four songs with my mouth open drooling on myself. The encores were great and the crowd were so loud it surpassed all my previous gigs to that point! I really miss wandering around all the cities we visited and bumping into so many nice PJ fans everywhere we went. Can't wait until next time and I even forgot somehow to mention the meet up in Dublin too!! Great times..

You were great fun to meet D, was sad to say goodbye to you in Berlin but happy to know that the chances are next time I'm at a PJ gig you will be among the first I meet. Would be great to come to London in October but I'm already going to Mudhoney with your other Scottish friends Robert, Paul and Susan..
