I disagree. If it educates people about the environment or how their gas is produced, it accomplishes something. If it inspires people to think of the greater world outside their own needs/desires, it accomplishes something. If it causes people to become more dedicated to reducing their oil consumption, it accomplishes something. If it makes people angry enough to finally participate in the political process & demand that huge corporations shouldn't get away with all the shit they get away with, it accomplishes something. Even if it just provokes empathy in the hearts of the viewers, it accomplishes something.

I have been out of town since last Thursday and I wondered if this thread would stay alive. I started it because I was losing faith in people and was disheartened that the oil issue was not the top story on here. And coming back today and seeing that it is the top thread on this page right now gave me a little faith back. People on here do care and are aware of the destruction being done...thank you. If enough people scream about it..someone will listen.

they are all in bed with big oil from campaign contributions of sponsorships, so why should they speak against the hand that feeds?

Our media is gutless and politically motivated and does not want to make the current admin look bad, they are just now finally calling out Obama for basically doing nothing but talking since the start

Now we are putting a moratorium on drilling?? So in our worst economy since the depression we are going to cost millions of gulf area people their pay now too- the oil industry is one of the biggest employers in that part if the country, great call Barry, typical Obama knee jerk reaction.

I watched them cleaning the pelicans and it turns out the birds can die of stress because they consider us predators..it's so sad and sickening.

I was watching Anderson Cooper and it showed that Kevin Costner's machines are at work in Louisiana, this is great!! I realize this is only a beginning but it is huge step in the right direction.

I agree..its the right direction to go in...picking it up instead of damming it up.

Hope we see more of this...it sure took them long enough to approve the use of Costner's device.

He said he offered it to them way before this even happened...and then again afterward..i don't know how many times....but....at least they've come to their senses finally.

so while i was at work today and walking through the cafeteria, i noticed on the tv they had cnn playing (no sound, though) and they had people set up to answer calls for people to donate money. while looking online, i noticed a few organizations, like the united way, are taking monetary donations to help people affected by the oil spill. my question is: why are they asking for money? BP should be paying for everything, and there should be no excuse for there being a delay in any money going to the areas and people affected by the spill.

I never thought we could actually destroy an ocean, much less in my life time, but here we are.
Its unbelieveable to me that they drill and have no shut off thingy ma jig. Like, nothing!!

So, what about all the other drills...are they going to make them safe before they run them again or are they still running as if nothing happened? If they are still running, then truly no one cares. Anything anyone says is BS, from Obama to the BP guy!

The oil has been spilling for what? 60 something, 70 something days? With no end in site. At this point at can't believe there isn't more outrage across the country. We have lost the Gulf of Mexico! And we seem to be doing nothing - not even talking about it. What's wrong with this country? My opinion: Fat & lazy. Too lazy too care about what is going on around us as long as we get our paycheck, food, and tv.
