Unlistenable 2010 bootlegs

Someone may want to fix these problems or the "boots" will be obtained less by paying and more by way of actual boots! lolTen Club # 433608, when I am 80 I will be in the front row!0

This is the second year in row that these bootlegs have gone in the crapper sound wise. Sumthin's gotta change! Is there any way, or is it possible that they might get fixed? And all the people that purchased would get new copies? What are the chances? Probably slim to none, but I'm just thinking out loud. What do ya think? LaterFoo4Everlong0

I've been listening to the Bristow show tons lately, either in my car on my ipod, or on my portable CD player with Bose headsets, they sound equally great to me.
I really don't get all this complaining, we have official boots that nobody is FORCING you to buy instead of crappy audience source boots that you would have to search high and low for.
And to the OP for saying you're a "consumer", well I'm sorry you're looking at the whole point of listening to great music as a corporate transaction.....
I'm not a diehard apologetic fanboy by any means, but really OP, you sound like a giant crybaby.0 -

These 2010 boots are by far the worst I've ever heard. Bring back the guy or gal who recorded the ones in 2003.
No fucking way dude. The 2008 boots were by far the worst. The best were the American leg of the 2000 tour and...like you said...the 2003 tour.
Agree...Definatley the "US Tour" Leg of 2000 and the WHOLE 2003 Tour were the best Sounding!...I Can't even hear JEFF on the European Leg!... :roll:0 -

I've not read all of the responses to this thread so maybe I'm missing something but when reading your response, the first thing that came to mind was - Can you take a step back and remember that official bootlegs are purchased by a consumer that should expect a quality product? It's not like there was an opportunity to hear how it would be modified by engineers before purchasing (prior to PJ radio).
If you purchase a top brand name bedding set and realize some of the stitching is missing or falling apart you would expect the merchant to allow you to exchange it for one that is not in that condition. Are you saying you would consider keeping the bedding set and rationalize that it is okay that your set is falling apart because it is the number 1 selling brand and you like everything else they make?
I don't know that anyone has asked to send their bootlegs back for a refund or what the response would be if they did.. but I think it is fair that people can state they aren't happy with their purchase and it doesn't have to be bitching. They should be allowed to give their opinion.
If you're happy with what you are hearing - that's great. Are there any SOLUTIONS? It would be good to know if there are particular songs that are consistently a problem. Can we make this more of a productive discussion by trying to determine if there are any trends? How about this: if there is a song that isn't sounding "right" to the listener - they post the song/show - brief description of what they are hearing - and what they are listening to it on. Then people that have that same show go listen for what the poster hears and provide some feedback about some EQ setting or something useful that might help OR maybe that they have the same issue and they are using "x" equipment, etc.. If everyone has a problem with COMATOSE from Columbus, then wouldn't it make sense that maybe there was a true problem?
sorry for the long post - i tend to do that... :?0 -
this thread is useless without pictures.Beavis: All my friends are brown and red? What does that mean?
Butthead: It means that his friends are like turds and that they like suck.
Beavis: Heh heh. Oh yeah. Yeah! Get those spoons out of my face before I shove them up your butt!
Butthead: Huh huh.0 -

Just when I was thinking of what to post someone smarter than me expressed my thoughts exactly.
I think people who are trying to stop board members from complaining are thinking they are protecting the band. You are not.
If the band is busting their asses off on the stage, giving us their best, and if that is not represented on the boots, that damages their image. Bad product is lessening their revenue and makes them look stupid, as in they are paying people who are damaging them. People start to ask if the band even cares.
Those posters, this board is their core base. Their word of mouth advertising, their grass roots, their revenue. It starts and ends here. Even people who don't listen to Pearl Jam admire them for their fan base. We love them and want the best for them. If boots are not good, complain. Write down the facts and ask for refund. Let them know that something is wrong. How else would they know?
You can say they could listen to the boots, but, with the business big as this, they have to delegate stuff. Who knows what comes back to them. So we have to stay in touch.0 -

Why are so many people bashing the boots??? Don't buy them if you don't like them. Pre-2000 you would have been happy just to get a great sounding audience recording. Be grateful that Pearl Jam gives us soundboard recordings of their shows.I am the artist formally known as "Cameron4President"....

Any chance that shit can effect your hearing?

Gives us? I thought they sold them to us...
As for your other question, I dont think people are bashing the boots...I think they are voicing their complaints about products they purchased. If the sound quality is bad why should they stay silent? Didn't this band teach us to speak out about things? I haven't bought any boots from this year so I don't know how the boots would sound to my ears, but from all the posts there does appear to be a problem.2003: San Antonio, Houston, Dallas, Seattle; 2005: Monterrey; 2006: Chicago 1 & 2, Grand Rapids, Cleveland, Detroit; 2008: West Palm Beach, Tampa; 2009: Austin, LA 3 & 4, San Diego; 2010: Kansas City, St. Louis, Columbus, Indianapolis; 2011: PJ20 1 & 2; 2012: Missoula; 2013: Dallas, Oklahoma City, Seattle; 2014: Tulsa; 2016: Columbia, New York City 1 & 2; 2018: London, Seattle 1 & 2; 2021: Ohana; 2022: Oklahoma City0 -

LOL! IMO, there is not one boot from 2010 that even compares to the sound or mix of 2003. 2003 is either top or top two of the years when bootlegs were released. I would say 2006 and 2000 are also very close as well. If I were to rate I would probably go this way....1.2003, 2. 2006, 3. 2000, 4. 2005, 5. 2009, 6. 2010, 7. 2008. Top two, possibly three, are pretty close regardless. I'm really bummed that the last few years has seen a real decline in the quality of these bootlegs. And I agree that this years boots are not unlistenable, but they're pretty bad. I would say close but not as bad as 2008. Besides the mixing being so awful this year, one of the main issues is the inconsistency from one show to the next. They are so far off from show to show. LaterFoo4Everlong0 -

I'd rank them like this:
1. 2000
2. 2006
3. 2003
4. 2005
5. 2010
6. 2009
7. 2008
There's a huge and very audible difference in the quality of the boots since Brett Eliason left. It's a shame but hey, what ya gonna do. I doubt anything's going to change much, there's been slight improvements from 2008 through to 2010 but unless Brett comes back into the team, I don't predict any major changes for the better.
At least we've got the 2000 boots to enjoy, they're a total treat in both performance and sound quality.Post edited by Spencer on0 -

I seem to have been misquoted here..In any case I'll check out San Diego 2000 as well when I get a second.
And for the record the best boot I've ever heard was my own when I held up my cell phone to the speakers in Brisbane '03 and recorded to my voicemail at work n Santa Ana at the time..haha. Of course it was heavily laden with context so that could explain a lot.
G....lots of boots to listen to...10/31/09, 05/21/10, Peru, Los Angeles0 -
Like I have said so many times in these threads before, We are all used to Brett Eliason, but it won't change the fact that he is not doing it anymore. Barret Jones did a great job in 2008 if you ask me. Big shoes to fill and he did well. No clue who did 2009 and is doing 2010 but they face the same pressures. One thing I notice is that whoever is doing it is trying to give fans what they want. It's hard to find that perfect happy medium of both audience and band. It takes a true gift to achieve the sound quality we are used to and mixing and producing is not something just anyone can do on the fly.
Also, as fans, and consumers who spend there hard earned money on these shows, we all have a right to voice our likes, dislikes, concerns and questions. That's a productive way for the band camp to improve there customer service and products so fans are more prone to buying there products. The band and TenC pay attention to there fans and have proven to try and meet us half way through out the years.
One thing many people overlook is how much effort, time and hard work it takes to even make these shows available to all of us fans. I dislike seeing people call fellow fans cry babies for voicing there expectations and opinions. NO matter how harsh or subtle the opinion may come across we should all embrace the fact that we have a say so in these shows and how they are produced for our listening enjoyment as a product. Let's take advantage of that rather than degrading it.0
