Who's to blame? The people who supply the world with their demands of an incredibly dangerous substance that is legal to extract from the sea by decree of our governments? There is a difference between "intent to break the law" and a " big fucking mistake." I guess this might fall under the legal term of "negligence" but that will be hard to prove I think, and even so, it would be a civil wrong only punishable by fines. The whole economic and judicial system of the country and the entire world supports this sort of behavior and when inevitably something goes wrong we all point fingers. The only smart thing to do, if you don't want to see this sort of capitalist "externality" occur again, is to defeat capitalism.Everything not forbidden is compulsory and eveything not compulsory is forbidden. You are free... free to do what the government says you can do.0

            He Still Stands (for tyranny):
 "Defeat Capitalism?"
A lot of American blood has been spilled to avoid the kind of tyranny you are advocating.
I submit, that it is you, who needs defeating.0

And by the way, ALL productive nations, capitalist or other, drill for oil.
"Defeat Capitalism!" Yeah. That will prevent oil spills.
 Dangerously ignorant.0

This big fucking mess happened because the corporate heads and the federal regulators have colluded to make the most profits for themselves. They have lobbied to have weaker rules and the politicians gave it to them in exchange for campaign donations. I think that both are to blame and if this Congress wants any credibility at all, they will require safety measures from anyone wanting to do business in the gulf again and no corporate caps on damages if those measures aren't followed. It's nice to be nice to the nice.0

Do you disagree that capitalist externalities like this are inevitable? I think that would pretty much be the only dissenting opinion on that subject that I've heard (well, other than Rush Limbaugh). Capitalism is a self-defeating system of everlasting increases in production and consumption of finite resources. It is like a computer program with a virus of built-in obsolesence. The question is whether or not your willing to see the environment, animals (including humans), and plants life destroyed at the expense of modern day conveniences and gluttony and eventual self-imposed human extinction. I'm also not a big fan of wage slavery and the increasing disparity between rich and poor. As far as "advocating tyranny", that couldn't be farther from the truth. I don't need to be lead by a collection of individuals OR a single ruler. Quite the contrary, I don't need to be lead by anyone.Everything not forbidden is compulsory and eveything not compulsory is forbidden. You are free... free to do what the government says you can do.0

When will our government start being proactive instead of reactive? The only people we should try to get even with...
 ...are those who've helped us.

I guess when Obama stated he was going to use every available resource to fight the spill he wasn't kidding. Too bad it took him almost two months to find his foot.
I do find it interesting that Bush was figuratively nailed to a cross for Katrina (natural disaster to a city built below sea level) while Obama has been able to deflect most criticism for the gulf spill (man-made disaster influenced by both administrations). I'm sure Ed would have had a field-day on this last tour if Bush was still in office.Be Excellent To Each OtherParty On, Dudes!0

So let me see if I understand: You'd jump all over the guy if he didn't issue any statement ensuring that these idiots, in BP, take some responsibility and cough up, or that they are held to account for their actions (or lack thereof). But then take the piss out of him for acting as though he wants to get tough.
Damned if you do, damned if you don't. I love the tag line for FOX though - fair and balanced, goodman Godfather, the irony is excellent0

So do you think that would have stopped the leak? "to protect my investment" do you mean America? if so I refer back to my first question do you think kicking ass on day 1 would have stopped the leak? I also agree that it doesn't matter but you’re critical at every turn so it just seems like your hating to hate and not for an actual reason.0

I don't completely disagree with you either. I think unregulated capitalism must go. The "free market" is a misnomer, just as a society needs laws so to does our economic system. I would go as far as to say defeating free market capitalism could improve our chances of never seeing this again.
Profit above all else is :twisted:0

FYI the same Tag line was used by MSNBC on Olbermen's show as well. He must have taken from O'Reilly to get his awful ratings up. 0 0

Great point. Obama has no f'n clue when you take him out of campaign mode. It is quite comical to watch this guy. Spike Lee actually said on CNN that Obama really has a lot on his plate and should find someone to oversee this whole mess for him. Imagine him saying that if a Repub. was in the WH. I am sick and tired of people saying he was handed such a mess. All presidents have crap to deal with. Put on your big boy pants and man up.0
