    With Van Halen I gotta go with Dave.

    But if Sammy's solo career doesn't blow Dave's out of the water...then I'm crazy from the heat.

    hagar, dio, brian johnson. but i don't dislike the original version of any of the 3. just prefer the later stuff.

    The first time I saw "Van Halen" play those songs was with Cherone. The album with Cherone had a few good songs, but it wasn't very good overall and wasn't Van Halen. I had to go though because it was the first opportunity I had to see Eddie and co. play those songs live. Sammy wouldn't do them. He did 4 Roth songs his entire career. Jump, Panama, Ain't Talkin' ' Bout Love and You Really Got Me.

    When they reunited in 2007 they played Mean Street and Unchained. They had a pretty sick setlist for an old VH fan. Only problem was they did not deviate from it.

    I still call bullshit on Eddie for kicking Mike out. He wanted to kick him out for the 2004 tour with Sam, but Sam refused to play without Mike. I love Eddie, but he is a bit of a douchebag.
    Saw Sam and Mike with Chickenfoot and they were friggin great. Satch can fuckin play.

    DLR. It always makes me uncomfortable to see Sammy on guitar with Eddie behind a damn keyboard... Don't get me wrong, Sammy can fuckin wail but with Eddie, they just seemed to water each other down.

    Oh, and I was only 11 when 1984 came out so I grew up on Hagar. VH was my all time fav until Pearl Jam took over. I prefer Hagar and think F.U.C.K and 5150 were their peaks (F.U.C.K. sounds awesome). But I enjoy the Dave era too and the 2008 show in Dallas was pretty kick ass.

    I have seen all three versins of VH as well as the also tour with Dave. for me, VH is Dave all the waay. I do like most of the Sammy stuff but that was not VH. I also like Gary Cherone but again that is not VH. Gary gets a raw deal....he is a wonderful singer and front man....and I still see him perform to this day.....he is so good.

    Saw VH 4 times with Roth and 3 times With Hagar. Also caught Roth's first solo tour. Even though Roth repeated jokes I heard on previous tours I still like the Roth era music better. The Hagar stuff just seems over produced and not as raw sounding as the Roth stuff.

    I've seen VH numerous times and with all 3 singers (yes even saw them with Gary).
    The band's peak was without question during the DLR era...but it also went to shit during the DLR era...with the mindless pop claptrap known as "Jump".

    The Hagar era produced some decent music, OU812 easily the best album. Though the best song they created was "Humans Being" from the Twister soundtrack.

    Roth is a marginal singer, utltimate frontman in the late 70's/early 80's. Hagar a better vocalist, also a bit of a clown. Cherone by far the best vocalist of the 3...in fact I saw all 3 grace the same stage one night, during the Mansfield stop of the Hagar/Roth tour (back in 2002 I think). Gary joined Sammy (and Michael Anthony) for a couple of songs. Far better voice than either of the other 2, but it was doomed from the start to fail, VH fans just couldn't accept Gary.

    EVH is nearly as big a headcase as Axl Rose and his ego with an assist from Alex did damage to the band at different points over the years.
    The reunited band put on a good enough show (saw them twice, Eddie was in very good form), but the whole Wolfgang thing just shows that EVH's ego still rules all, and Michael Anthony got shafted by the whole process.

    But if i were to compile a list of the 10 best VH songs, 8 or 9 would be from the Roth era.


    Of course "Intruder" would top the list which tells the real story of who the best singer is, its Frankenstrat.

    Good to see not everyone is down on Gary Cherone. I thought he was not a good fit for VH, but who is. It would be like Aerosmith trying to replace Steven Tyler. Everyone usually thinks of him as the guy with the falsetto singing More than Words, but he's a great rock singer too. I still say though that Extreme had the best performance for the Freddy Mercury Tribute Concert.

    As far as between Sammy or Dave, I know it's wimping out but for me it's really a tossup. The first album I really got into by VH was 1984, and it's still probably my favorite, but 5150 is probably my second favorite. Dave's the better frontman though.
