The age-old question. Who do you take? What version of Van Halen was best? Cabo Wabo Sammy Hagar or Diamond David Lee Roth? Curious what you guys think. I know there are a lot of VH fans out there in Pearl Jam land.

Dave's VH produced lots of great stuff of course, but, to me, he gave them a cartoonish, bafoonish even, quality which isn't what I look for a in rock band. Plus, he's an arrogant ass.
They say every sin is deadly but I believe they may be wrong...I'm guilty of all seven and I don't feel too bad at all
It's a shame the group was separated for so many years, but it looks that the last tour they made was pretty awesome. Does anybody have saw them in this last tour?
This
EVH is a tool though
Having said that, one of my favorite VH songs is Why Can't This Be Love which was sung by Hagar.
Still taking DLR on this one.

EV Solo: 6/16/11 Boston, 6/18/11 Hartford,
But they're both equally fun to make fun of.
I believe the real age-old question is this: Ozzy Osbourne or Ronnie James Dio
I trust many of you know where my vote lies. \m/  \m/

I have to say BOTH I saw VH on the The Women and Children First & 1984 tour twice and it was in my younger tom foolery days. Yes I was clownish way back and so was DLR. I then saw Hagar on the 5150 tour and a very good album and his frontman work was good also.
That said i did see David Lee Roth on his solo tour after leaving VH on April Fools Day 85'. I have to say that concert is easily in my top 15 of all time concert enjoyment. I didn't expect much from a free ticket but he kept surprising the sold out Capital Centre in MD all night long most of which had me standing throughtout. He does know how to entertain even though he comes off very corny at times.

Loved that song along with *Unchained*
Did they ever play those songs (((((LOUD)))))

But if Sammy's solo career doesn't blow Dave's out of the water...then I'm crazy from the heat.
The first time I saw "Van Halen" play those songs was with Cherone. The album with Cherone had a few good songs, but it wasn't very good overall and wasn't Van Halen. I had to go though because it was the first opportunity I had to see Eddie and co. play those songs live. Sammy wouldn't do them. He did 4 Roth songs his entire career. Jump, Panama, Ain't Talkin' ' Bout Love and You Really Got Me.
When they reunited in 2007 they played Mean Street and Unchained. They had a pretty sick setlist for an old VH fan. Only problem was they did not deviate from it.
I still call bullshit on Eddie for kicking Mike out. He wanted to kick him out for the 2004 tour with Sam, but Sam refused to play without Mike. I love Eddie, but he is a bit of a douchebag.
Saw Sam and Mike with Chickenfoot and they were friggin great. Satch can fuckin play.
That never happened.
Never happened I tell you!
Oh, and I was only 11 when 1984 came out so I grew up on Hagar. VH was my all time fav until Pearl Jam took over. I prefer Hagar and think F.U.C.K and 5150 were their peaks (F.U.C.K. sounds awesome). But I enjoy the Dave era too and the 2008 show in Dallas was pretty kick ass.
