The Constitution says you only have to be a citizen of the U.S.

Who cares? :?

Lord knows I don't care but he must be a "natural born citizen of the United States".

Is this hypothetical? If you're referring to Obama, I'm pretty certain he was born in Hawaii

I personally don't care, but if it's in the Constitution, then I believe we should follow it...otherwise Article two should be revised or amended.
    7/2/06 - Denver, CO
    6/12/08 - Tampa, FL
    8/23/09 - Chicago, IL
9/28/09 - Salt Lake City, UT (11 years too long!!!)
    9/03/11 - East Troy, WI - PJ20 - Night 1

    The Constitution reads:

No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at
the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office
    of President;

    That "or" is important

    It's not hypothetical, it's a real question.

Remember...nobody knows where Obama was born especially Obama. How does anybody know? There Mom tells them. But Obama's Mom is dead.

If we find out that he was born in Kenya the we will have a Constitutional crissis in this country. Because some lawyer will make a humungus, gigantic deal about it.

Yes but at this point it's a bit late to do anything about it if that were true. This government of ours WILL find some way to cover it up and cover it well.

I sit there mouth agape in pure wonder that this is possibly somehow even still a concern for people. I mean I can't express enough how stunned I am that people actually still question and/or care about an issue that has been confirmed to death. It is truly unbelievable to me.

Then to wipe the spittle off my mouth I have to laugh and smile, cause really there is no other sane reaction to such lunacy.

P.S. I am not an Obama supporter, I think both parties are full of crap and it's hard to tell one from the other.

Let's be more precise. How about "Does it matter if the president has a father that was born in Kenya?"

Isn't that what you really mean? He has a mother that was born in the US, HE was born in the US, but his father was from Kenya. :geek:

    Muddled thinking is kinda ugly.

How about the fact that John McCain was born in Panama while his father was stationed there?

Do the 'birthers' have a problem with that? Or is it that they just don't like Obama because he is black?

the thing about it that gets me is their 'proof'....a newspaper announcement. his dad was Kenyan and most likely had family there so it would make sense there would be an announcement just as if his dad were French i'd expect to see an announcement in 1 of their papers. but even if obama happened to be born in Kenya it wouldn't make a difference to me because he would still be an american citizen from his mom and would have spent like 99% of his life here.

i think a lot of them just want a way to say they think he should be kicked out of office without looking like a bigot. he's an american citizen regardless where he was born, it wouldn't matter if he was born on the moon. i understand the constitution says natural born citizen and i can understand why at that time that was put in there but now? it's either bigotry or just sour partisan grapes

as for mccain/panama children born on military bases in other countries are still considered american citizens. actually i think they have dual citizenship until they are 18, but a child born to an american serving say in germany would be an american citizen. like if you have 2 parents with 2 different nationalities except i believe US military bases are considered US soil like an embassy

Christ...he was born in Hawaii...the republican governor of Hawaii says he was born in hawaii. there is a certificate of Live Birth in Hawaii....which is their "birth certificate".

but yes it wouldnt matter to me if you weren't a natural born citizen. It would probably be a good thing.

I get that, but if you think Obama is bringing any kind of change (aside from the change of name from Republican president to Democrat president) you're crazy!

I think it's funny that so many people are afraid to ask the question and so many are scared to question anything about Obama.

Fact is the newspaper announcement doesn't say what hospital or city he was born in. The certificate is NOT a birth certificate. My birth certificate is as old as me and it has my little baby footprints on it. I have a certificate of live birth too. I needed it to get a passport.

    Wake up!!!!

Nobody but Obama's Mommy can say for sure where he was born. Obama himself can't he was just a little new born at the time.

    THERE ARE NO PRIMARY SOURCES!!!

Historians in the future will debate this. Why are yinz so afraid to question this man?

I think that he was born in Hawaii because I think it would take some balls to try and fool everyone and that the Democratic party would be finished forever if they tried it and thought that they could get away with it. So personally I don't think that He or the dems would even think about it,but Im really suprised by all that think that it's no big deal If he weren't born there and that it would be ok if he had lied about it. But then again Im not. Most could care less about the Constituion and what it says these days. What if people were saying the same thing about Bush or any other prersident that you personally didn't vote for. Would all of you still feel the same way ? That it was no big deal if he wasn't born in america. HELL NO!!!! I very seriously doubt it.

    Presidential Requirements

The Constitution requires that a candidate for the presidency must be a "natural-born" citizen of the United States, at least 35 years of age, and a resident of the United States for at least 14 years.

    Natural-Born
An understanding of the nation is essential for the role of President. The framers of the Constitution strongly believed that a person must be born in the United States in order to fully understand the country.

    35 Years of Age
Personal experience was very important to the framers. They felt that unless a person had reached the age of thirty-five, it was highly unlikely for that person to have experienced enough to govern a nation.

    14 Year Residency
Part of being President involves dealing with both domestic and foreign problems. In order to face these problems, previous knowledge of the nation's history in these matters is necessary. The framers decided that fourteen years was an adequate time span to comprehend these issues.
