4th time seeing Ed solo
it was pretty much an all around perfect night. seats next to the mixing board, not so bad.
Liam Finn is pretty great himself, do yourself a favor and get their early.
Ed was spot on, fuck ups and all.
maybe this is a dumb observation but i just couldn't get over how many people get up and walk around while Ed is preforming (going to the bathroom i assume) what a distraction. drink less, enjoy the show!!
haha
whatever, Ed was brilliant.
make sure you say hello to my boy Joe Merch at the Merch table, tip him well!!!Things were different then. All is different now.
I tried to explain. Oh, somehow.0 -
Albany...O home state Albany...Beautiful theater, and I've seen 30 yrs of truly incredible bands at The Palace. Have to say, much higher with Ed's show on June 8th & 9 2009. There is such an outpouring between fans and musician, an exchange of emotional content, from our love of singing at top of lungs with small town type verses to the joyous anticipatory quiet of which hushes from the stroke of a chord.
Liam and EJ rocked!!! For at least an hour and a half.... definitely longer set opening night. Very special. They have some real experimental longggggg mind blowing gutty sound. Also Liam and EJ near un-catagorizable music. However, leave it to Eddie to describe:
Mid-way or so Ed talked about an old band from the 70's, said something like if you took this chick from a band from the 70's called The Carpenters (Karen C. was drummer), and put her on too much acid--
THAT was Liam Finn hahaha so funny...
***please see below
As well as discussed previously, an incredible night to cherish and save in our memory pockets. I recalled myself while a teen, around '74-'75 ish, when Frank Zappa played The Palace. He'd had these crazy ... HUGE feet made up as heilium-filled balloons with huge stinky socks tied on them. Mr. Zappa pummeled the audience with these for a giant game of catch while singing his "Stink Foot" song-- it was a classic move from another true genius of our times-- Ed would've sounded fantastic with Frank's barritone-rich voice and jeesh, their humor together! Woah! Ed's foot chair brought me to an instant flashback to the very acid I was doing in whatever year during the 70's this was
Anyway I was far up in balcony 1st night. Ed was maybe five inches high and his brilliant white seat looked like an infant's feet... with his body cradled there, he looked safe. Love to Ed & Jill's 8 mo old Harper Moon.
An earlier reference made, as to Ed being excited to tell his daughter Olivia he played at the Palace tonight, then he said he wished he could tell her he'd rode in on a white horse. After singing a tune he said the music was that white horse. Very cool.
Just home, have lots of other thoughts of this beautiful night. Also a long luscious tale of 2nd show...
Which was better, folks always ask? Last year solo tour (I'd been to Boston 1&2, NYC 2, Newark; loved each & every moment) OR this year's energized clearly strong-voiced Eddie-- OR of the between and betwixt, the opening or night two? IMO every show gifts us the miracle of the man's voice and person!
To sections of loud rude people in balcony: I THINK EDDIE KNOWS HIS NAME BY NOW!
***? Wonder if Ed knows or forgot Karen Carpender died an anorexic? I didn't feel he was being disrespectful it was definitely spontaneous but did hear some squalks after the show. Whatever!
Karen is noted for being the first female drummer to be successful in a band. Also pianist and songwriter. Now this music heard lots as muzak in elevators and such.0 -

I really loved the way this concert started.
Walking the Cow, Sometimes, Around the Bend, I am Mine, I'm Open. It was so beautiful! I loved the feeling of the whole thing, but I especially loved how those songs set a mood.
I thought the cigarette and story in the bare feet chair was charming!
I thought the covers he did of Mr. State Trooper and Girl from the North Country were really well done. (I like how he's learned to use that foot stomping thing to add to some of the songs.)
You're True had such a lovely feeling to it, it really projected the song's message.
Lukin and Porch were quite well done and got the PJ crowd on their feet. ( He has gotten really good at that energetic strumming style!!) Porch reminded me of how deftly Ed, all by himself, manages to lift crowds of people up to the feeling he's trying to project.
To be complete, I'd have to say that I thought this performance was a great way to start off his tour.&&&&&&&&&&&&&&0 -
