Was an awesome show last night! I sat in the Center Orchestra about 20 rows back. (Not 10 Club seats) but pretty good for ticketmaster seats.
Ed's voice was as sharp as it has ever been. For anyone who is questioning if his voice is going to hold up there is no need to worry. Ed was very happy and in a really good mood. Loved the crowd and it seemed like everyone in the crowd behaved. He told a cool story to us while sitting in his foot chair. I guess we were special because he said this would be the only show that he would do this at.
In my opinion some of the highlights were "Around the Bend", "Girl from the North Country", "Forever Young", "Porch", "I am Mine" and of course "Arc".
It was nice to meet some really cool people from the message board as well, JeanWah, Foxy Mop, Evil Closet Monkey, One for Each Day, Calum, Pearl Jam Patriot, Oxxys, Given to Dragonfly + her husband, Love Boat Admiral...oh and PJ Bugs...sorry if I forgot anyone!
Also, there is no wrist band for posters. You wait in line and have to hold onto it during the show.

Now I can't wait for both shows in Atlanta!
awesome meeting you as well. wish i had a chance to sit and chat with ya more. trying to meet everyone and hang with my brother who drove 7 hrs to see me / the show. have fun in ATL.
As far as standing/sitting, when he first came out Eddie said something along the lines of "you all paid for these nice, red velvet seats, you should use them." So people sat down most of the night, except during the encore break.
Also, Liam and Eliza joined him for Hard Sun and it was awesome. Liam played the drums and Eliza sang backup vocals. Very cool.
I loved the backdrops and the whole night was spectacular.
Arc was beautiful. I loved all his stories...I wonder what he did today on this rainy Albany day.

All the nonsense about Ed's voice can be laid to rest. He sounded great and 17 years after I first heard him there is still no singer I would rather hear live (and he didn't look heavy either).
I fully agree with you that there is no singer I would rather hear live.
Having said that, I do think he was struggling with some of the melodies ("he was guiding me, love his own way"), he was cutting some of the notes short and was short of breath at times. I was really saddened when he pulled out the cigarettes and beer on stage. It's his life, and of course he can do with it whatever he wants. I don't think his voice will ever be bad: if anything, it would sound more and more like Tom Waits. And yet, I wish he treasured the powerful voice he has a little more.
I sincerely hope things will straighten up after a few dates, and that he is well.
Perhaps I am becoming more of a mom and less of a groupie
... and the will to show I will always be better than before.
Totally amazing night!!! I loved the intimate feel to it. The way Ed joked around and told stories was so cool. He played so many songs. I was blown away. The loop thing he did with ARC was incredible, harmonizing his voice like that, and then coming off the stage and shaking hands, etc. I thought that would be the finale, but then he came back with Hard Sun, and delivered. I'm so thankful to have been there. It was so much more than I ever could've hoped for. Thanks 10 C!!!!!
I'm shocked no one has mentioned his Devo shirt that he wore last night. After all the Got Some / Gut Feeling crap that's being going around there's no way that was coincidence.

I wondered about that too. :P
So glad everyone had a great time!
Sorry for asking a silly question here...but what was the general dress code in the audience - did anyone look at someone funny for dressing up if any? And temperature in the building?
Again, so glad to see so many happy fans here and thanks for taking the time to share GREAT reviews with us!
JA: Why do I get the Ticketmaster question?
EV: It's your band.

Very casual dress code. Jeans, cargo shorts, T-shirts. I thought the temperature was very comfortable. I had on jeans and a t-shirt and never felt too warm or too cold.
Hey hey all, first time posting here, just wanted to add a small note echoing the general feelings about last night's show. What a night!!! Thanks to anyone and everyone who was there last night, you all helped make it extremely memorable for all the right reasons, hope to see/feel you all in Toronto later this summer.
Loved it all ...ARC was awesome ... as was the whole casual vibe...Ed was feeling comfortable and seemed to have fun .
Another FUCKING great show ..Thanks ED ,Liam, E.J and all involved, for the entertainment.
Peace ,love and rock and roll

i'm soooo HAPPY for you!
couldn't happen for a better person, nor more well-deserved.
(also hope me and mr. dream can be so lucky in baltimore!)
sounds like it was a fantastic show - can't wait for baltimore night 2!
Thank YOU! I nearly died as I was walked down to my seats....I thought 9th Row center at Hartford last year was amazing, and figured that was as good as I will ever get with fanclub seats, and then we kept getting closer to the stage, so awesome....I love love love the 10C!
I will think positive thoughts that the PJ gods are just as good to you!!! Have a fabulous vacation down in Baltimore, I have really great memories from spending lots of time there, because my parents lived in Maryland when my dad passed away.

it was pretty much an all around perfect night. seats next to the mixing board, not so bad.
Liam Finn is pretty great himself, do yourself a favor and get their early.
Ed was spot on, fuck ups and all.
maybe this is a dumb observation but i just couldn't get over how many people get up and walk around while Ed is preforming (going to the bathroom i assume) what a distraction. drink less, enjoy the show!!
haha
whatever, Ed was brilliant.
make sure you say hello to my boy Joe Merch at the Merch table, tip him well!!!
Things were different then. All is different now.
I tried to explain. Oh, somehow.
Albany...O home state Albany...Beautiful theater, and I've seen 30 yrs of truly incredible bands at The Palace. Have to say, much higher with Ed's show on June 8th & 9 2009. There is such an outpouring between fans and musician, an exchange of emotional content, from our love of singing at top of lungs with small town type verses to the joyous anticipatory quiet of which hushes from the stroke of a chord.
Liam and EJ rocked!!! For at least an hour and a half.... definitely longer set opening night. Very special. They have some real experimental longggggg mind blowing gutty sound. Also Liam and EJ near un-catagorizable music. However, leave it to Eddie to describe:
Mid-way or so Ed talked about an old band from the 70's, said something like if you took this chick from a band from the 70's called The Carpenters (Karen C. was drummer), and put her on too much acid--
THAT was Liam Finn hahaha so funny...
***please see below
As well as discussed previously, an incredible night to cherish and save in our memory pockets. I recalled myself while a teen, around '74-'75 ish, when Frank Zappa played The Palace. He'd had these crazy ... HUGE feet made up as heilium-filled balloons with huge stinky socks tied on them. Mr. Zappa pummeled the audience with these for a giant game of catch while singing his "Stink Foot" song-- it was a classic move from another true genius of our times-- Ed would've sounded fantastic with Frank's barritone-rich voice and jeesh, their humor together! Woah! Ed's foot chair brought me to an instant flashback to the very acid I was doing in whatever year during the 70's this was
Anyway I was far up in balcony 1st night. Ed was maybe five inches high and his brilliant white seat looked like an infant's feet... with his body cradled there, he looked safe. Love to Ed & Jill's 8 mo old Harper Moon.
An earlier reference made, as to Ed being excited to tell his daughter Olivia he played at the Palace tonight, then he said he wished he could tell her he'd rode in on a white horse. After singing a tune he said the music was that white horse. Very cool.
Just home, have lots of other thoughts of this beautiful night. Also a long luscious tale of 2nd show...
Which was better, folks always ask? Last year solo tour (I'd been to Boston 1&2, NYC 2, Newark; loved each & every moment) OR this year's energized clearly strong-voiced Eddie-- OR of the between and betwixt, the opening or night two? IMO every show gifts us the miracle of the man's voice and person!
To sections of loud rude people in balcony: I THINK EDDIE KNOWS HIS NAME BY NOW!
***? Wonder if Ed knows or forgot Karen Carpender died an anorexic? I didn't feel he was being disrespectful it was definitely spontaneous but did hear some squalks after the show. Whatever!
Karen is noted for being the first female drummer to be successful in a band. Also pianist and songwriter. Now this music heard lots as muzak in elevators and such.
Anyone know if they will make official bootlegs of these shows?
I hope so, but if not then I hope somebody recorded both shows and will be sharing it in a few weeks- I know 10C doesn't like that idea but come on, I want to relive both shows.
Walking the Cow, Sometimes, Around the Bend, I am Mine, I'm Open. It was so beautiful! I loved the feeling of the whole thing, but I especially loved how those songs set a mood.
I thought the cigarette and story in the bare feet chair was charming!
I thought the covers he did of Mr. State Trooper and Girl from the North Country were really well done. (I like how he's learned to use that foot stomping thing to add to some of the songs.)
You're True had such a lovely feeling to it, it really projected the song's message.
Lukin and Porch were quite well done and got the PJ crowd on their feet. ( He has gotten really good at that energetic strumming style!! ) Porch reminded me of how deftly Ed, all by himself, manages to lift crowds of people up to the feeling he's trying to project.
To be complete, I'd have to say that I thought this performance was a great way to start off his tour.
Hey everyone... in a hotel in NJ typing this up so going to be quick!
ALBANY RULED!
Was awesome meeting everyone, and such a great group of people. Everyone who shook my hands & made me feel welcome.. thanks so much..
