Even on reflection Manchester was the show for me

it's been a fortnight now and it's still in my memory as the best I have seen

struggling to understand the nonsense in here about the crowd. Was A1 to me where I was. Barrier between jeff and ed
  • Listening to the Manchester boot as i type this (Not For You) and it sounds amazing. All 6 so far to surface sound really, really good. Definitely better overall than the 2007 audience recordings.

Other than Babs' Smile request and her getting the harmonica, my other big distinct memory is that fucking idiotic kid with the mohawk. Glad you didn't have any pieces of shit like him coming towards your way.

I don't understand the people that say there was no crowd participation either-from where I was standing the crowd were in great voice. They lead the "dooh dooh's" in Black at the end of the song, they didn't re-create that as well at the O2, the floor was heaving too. Imo of course ;)

Each to their own, I had the exact opposite experience

The crowd around me were great in the 10c seats block 115.

sat in between 2 american couples and everyone was on their feet having a blast...the only people I saw sat down was a couple of pregant ladies in the rows behind and a small child with ear protectors on who fell asleep (he was only about 4-5 years old though :) )

    WOW!!

Just got home and I'm exhausted but too buzzed for sleep, that was amazing, I didn't think they would top the 2000 gig at this venue but boy did they ever.

A fantastic setilst, it was great to hear a couple of the new tracks live and I am even more excited to get my hands on Backspacer now. I really hope there is a bootleg release for this show as I would love to experience it again.

Thank you Pearl Jam and please come back soon.

    Hello

The gig was brilliant, even with MoHawk kid. I had a great time even being clobbered ont he backl of the head by a crowd surfer....just a reminder that I'm at a PJ gig!

Anyway, where'd you get the bootleg...are they available now?

Yeah, he was a dick, so were his friends.

Still a great gig though, on reflection. I wasn't bothered by the crowd then, I've seen a lot worse, so I was just enjoying a great set, with good friends and good people around me who looked out for each other. As time passes I appreciate it even more.

Great setlist. Wish I could have been there for this one.
  • Travelled over from ireland for this gig with two friends and we are still tallking about it to this day. we have all seen the band before at home but there was something special about this night, thanks to the amazing setlist, great seats and the people we met after the gig this was one night we won't forget in a hurry.
  • Only just been able to add to this as I went to the gig on my first day of leave and been catching up at home and work since getting back!
What a night, I don't remember going to a concert and still buzzing so much for so long after.
It's been fun reading about all these poor people saying they're getting too old for the pit then reading they're in their mid/late 30s! This was my first pit for years but at 42 I was glad to return to my foolish youth.
Many people have mentioned those GA guys that caused them problems; why didn't the MEN arena staff set up a 2nd barrier behind the 10c crowd, then we could have kept ourselves fresh and backache free by being able to stroll knowing our view was safe. It would have kept the dicks out. Though it wouldn't have kept out some of the smell; come on guys (the minority thank God!) if you're going to a hot concert with a view to jumping around TAKE A SHOWER BEFORE YOU GO!!!!!.
Almost impossible to pick favourite tracks but I guess Present Tense, Given to Fly, Leash, Indifference and, even, The Fixer would be there if I was forced.
I also loved the odd thing that went wrong, eg the mini fires, starting the wrong song and the best for me was Jeff's bum note when he took over guitar. He looked up at Matt and gave him a knowing laugh. This summed up the night for me because, and I know some others have disagreed here but, all the band seemed to be having a great time and that rubbed off on the crowd which circled back to them etc etc.
It'd rate right at the top for me. I'd say for a visual feast a late 80s Rush concert and maybe the 90s Pink Floyd gigs were my fav's. For an incredible vocal performance maybe Chris Cornell's last solo tour. For entertainment it's got to be last year's Foo Fighters. For a "cool" atmosphere then nothing beats Massive Attack at Westonbirt Arboretum. But as an all round old fashioned rock concert THIS WAS THE BEST.
I went alone, as my fellow ticket holding mate was ill, so thanks to a great crowd for making me feel like I was with friends. ;)

I completely agree with the 'shower first' comment . Fortunately there was only one smelly girl near me and she was nice, so it's (almost) forgiven ;). Everybody was nice, apart from a couple of groups who came to riot. But they couldn't spoil it 8-). What a band!

    groetjes,
    Mirella :)

  • Oh no... you see, now I'm feeling like I'm missing out on something because I didn't have any smelly people around me !!! ;) Although, afterwards when we were all trying to file out of the Arena with everyone crammed together it was definitely a bit stinky then !!

When I left the MEN that night I looked like I'd been in the shower!! I have never been so hot in any gig... ever!!!!
