Perhaps. But when people just start making stuff up to bad mouth a show that some folk actually enjoyed, it gets a bit annoying.
too right, there is a serious amount of bollocks as far as I'm concerned in this thread.
but each to their own.
For me this show was awesome, the crowd was good (although strangely i dont to go to a PJ show to watch the god damn crowd) and i thought the set was perfect (until i saw what Chicago got
)
Manchester rocked. If you didnt get that, I'm sorry. My favourite show I ever saw them play
Bollox
I hope my previous comments didnt come across as negative, I enjoyed the second half of the gig, just the first was a bit flat for me..who feckin knows

Me either, I had an amazing night. We were in the middle of middle (if you catch ma twix) of standing we had loads of room, everyone around us was singing, dancing/pogo-ing, we a shuffled around so that a girl who was shorter than us could see better, we could hear everything. During Black we all had our arms around each other singing and swaying, absorbing the moment and other peeps were doing the same. Maybe it was because I was with three ace people watching an amazing band, but we had an immense night.
Maybe the problems with the sound meant some people couldn't get into it in the first half, dunno, but my mate reckoned the MEN can be a funny venue.
Two of my friends who were with me in manchester went to the O2 and said granted it was also an amazing night, they said they thought it was probably a bit better, they preferred the set list and people did seem more into it, but that it took nothing away from Manchester.2009 - Manchester. 2010 - Dublin, Belfast, London, Berlin, Arras, Werchter. 2011 - PJ20 i & ii, Montreal, Toronto i & ii, Ottawa, Hamilton.

Al, its all subjective isnt it?
Bollocks to me is not bollocks to someone else.
Its hard to comprehend someone not digging it like i did, but then again these things are all about perspective.
Rats is getting a huge amount of love this tour also, but is that because its an amazing song, or is it because its rare? I mean if it was a staple part of the set I doubt it would even get a mention.

That is so true. In comparison I found London crowd rougher than Manchester one and I was exactly at the same point both nights (10 meters from stage in front of Jeff). I find both Manchester and London shows amazing with a slight preference for London.
Regarding the sound, maybe Ed was referring to the multiple problems he had during Manchester with his guitars and mics.0 -
Jennytree wrote:Housing Jim wrote:Jennytree wrote:The Manchester show was the least favourite of the 4 I went to. The crowd were attrocious. It may have been rough in the middle, but I was standing 1/4 to 1/3 of the way back on Mikes side and there was no audience participation - not even a bit of movement when Even Flow played. I've never been so disappointed by a crowd (again, this is only where I was!) :x I'll be hard pushed to ever go to Manchester again. :!:
Aside from London in 2007, I've never known a Pearl Jam show where the standing crowd was heavily into the show so far back. It was the same in Dublin in 2006. The crowd were awful that night....most of them just seemed like pissed up idiots who had come purely to see the band play Alive. At least the Manchester crowd were all on their feet!! 8-)
But I actually wasn't "that far back". I was near the front, only maybe 20 or so rows? back. The crowd weren't even moving for Alive or Even Flow. Maybe it was just those that were on Mikes side, cos there seemed to be movement on Stones side (for once!)
Here's a video of the crowd not moving during Even Flow, in fact at the start the crowd is almost statuesque

The only negative thing I will say about Manchester is that, to me at least, the crowd seemed really hostile. People (mainly GA, I have to admit) were rude, forceful and determined to get down the front regardless of who they trod on. I've seen PJ at festivals and their own shows and this was by far my least favourite crowd. I have to say that it did put a bit of a damper on the evening for me.
Okay....you're talking bollocks.
I was sat about two seats away from you, and I know because you were hanging that flag off the railings in front. Everyone around you was into it so you must have had your eyes shut or something!!
+1! I was 2 rows in front of that flag and nearly EVERYONE around me was standing. The only person I saw sitting was a girl next to me, she came with her husband but wasn't actually a fan-she was pissed up and fell asleep during Black
I don't understand the people that say there was no crowd participation either-from where I was standing the crowd were in great voice. They lead the "dooh dooh's" in Black at the end of the song, they didn't re-create that as well at the O2, the floor was heaving too. Imo of course

We were just in the opposite seat to Dimitris. Third row but in Mike's side. All our sector was a party, everybody was dancing and singing. We had a lot of fun with some american guys in the second row.
I like both experiences (GA and seating) but if I'm not going to be in front row I will allways prefer a decent seat.
A BIG THANKS to the Ten Club for the seating. We had the best seats in Manchester and in London. We hope they keep this chance for 2010.1996: San Sebastian
2000: San Sebastian

I don't understand this bollocks about London being a "better" atmosphere.
From my place on the rail Mikes side it seemed like everyone in the crowd was absoloutely loving it.
The band sounded brilliant to me and Ed was clearly loving it with all his dancing round.
Plus, Evenflow...
I don't even need to talk about Mikes solo behind the back.
Maybe it's all you folk who never leave London (it IS the centre of the universe obviously) with your superiority complexes as usual ahahaha
:P
Just teasing.
London was also awesome (oh Rats - how that funky bass intro never ceases to get me grooving) but this Manc gig was fuckin immense and in my opinion a better night than O2 simply due to setlist and my personal enjoyment from being up on the rail.
So good to see the guys back in the UK!0 -
the only reason the crowd wasn't totally bouncing during Evenflow - one reason only - everyone was too busy singing their hearts out - even I can't bounce and sing from the bottom of my soul at the same time, well I say sing *ahem* luckily everyone else drowned me out

it did look packed though right at the front - when the camera pans back you can see everyone else is off their feet apart from the solo when everyone was just in awe!
the blues (and whiplash) have finally gone and am now trying to work out how/when/where for the next time0 -
It seems from reading around that Mike side was a lot more settled than Stone side. For a start, you didn't have that fucknuckle of a kid with the mohawk constantly crowdsurfing only to be let back in each time to kick people's (ie me) heads everytime as he got pulled over the other side of the barrier. If we had the space to move, I reckon my area definitely would've reached up, grabbed him, and roughed him up a bit for being such a twat.Ruxpin wrote:I don't understand this bollocks about London being a "better" atmosphere.

My first PJ gig...finally! It was brilliant and I'm looking forward to my next one...whenever that may be, not many good bands come to SW Germany. Anyway, it made for a special birthday being back home in England AND seeing PJ.
Setlist was surprising, opening with the understated and brilliant Long Road, Even Flow was awesome with Mike's behind the back solo and Black was beautiful.
Bought the sticker pack and tried to get the Ltd Manchester stick figure t-shirt in xxl but was sold out. Does anyone have one they're prepared to let go? Please? :roll:0 -

have to say i was on mike's side and there was no crowdsurfing that i seen, behind me the crowd seemed kinda quiet there wasnt much jumping about or anything.. there were a few guys pushing through for a better view towards the last few songs  which annoyed me a little as they really pushed and shoved their way through but otherwise i was so busy jumping on the spot
(i stepped on a girl's foot behind me a few times by accident, sorry!!!!) and singing .. erm.. well "trying" to sing?!! a few guys standing around me probs thought i was looped esp at the start when the long road started up and i was practically roaring out the lyrics

for sure i can use this type of words too,but im not couse i have problem to put my level down..u have to respect someone opinion who see 4 shows in the row..Manchester show was the worst in sound and crowd passion..i had great time but i can compare...and if u see me with my flag so u know if i had good time..and enjoy the showHousing Jim wrote:dimitrispearljam wrote:
