this original post is a real ballsy request. it kinda seems silly to tell people who paid money for tickets how to act.

yeah, but you can see that he's a douchebag since he mentioned how many shows he has been to and his ten club number. that shit can't be covered up...

especially because neither :D are even "impressive" in douchebag terms.

While we're at it, let's tell people what they can and can't wear to the show too...

you know, we get 30 threads on this every tour and they say the same thing over and over

I have been to most of the Chicago shows since 94, I personally rock my head of my neck, but that doesn't mean I am enjoying the show, or am a better fan than Jonny front row standing there like a statue.

I saw people in the front row of the Vic, the hottest crowd I ever attended, standing there arms crossed. I saw people in DC, MSG, INDY, ALPINE, UC, MILWAUKEE, CHICAGO STADIUM, SOLDIER FIELD standing still, I saw a whole lot more rocking their assess off. I recall a MSG dvd with people standing there still and the band put it out in video format! I also recall a granny at MSG this past tour enjoying the shit out of row 3 as much as any guy in the building. I have never been to a Chicago show that didn't tear the roof off the joint, or blast a sonic boom across the lake all the way to Michigan. The fact is for every person who decides to stand still and enjoy it in their own way, there are 10 others all around them fucking up the place. If PJ decides to give front row seats to VIPS and or old timers they know damn well what to expect, good or bad, for the old timers it isn't as if they don't know those fans from back to pre-94..shit maybe even back to Mother Love Bone!

I understand bands feed of the energy of the crowd,if they can't hear us all screaming our lungs out and base their whole show performance on some people in front they are just stupid, unobservant, and deaf.

    1. To each their own- enjoy it how the fuck you want to (even if next to BostonLou)

    2. watch the band not the people in the seats in front of you (even if it is Foxymop, she is fun to watch ;-) )

    3. Enjoy your seat no matter where you are, you never know if this is the last time ever

    4. stop making new threads on this topic every month

I don't know if anyone here was at Chicago 2000, but that crowd was one of the loudest, most excited crowds I've ever been in, and the band responded. I think it was one of the reasons they played over 22 songs before the encore, but I could be wrong.
Anyway...just keep the energy up. I don't care if you stand motionless the whole time, but at least let the band know you appreciate what they're doing on stage. It bothers me to no end to see people at a concert not even looking at the stage, just texting each other the whole night.

  • I find it hilarious that my opinion can not be valid but everyone elses can. I knew I'd be flamed so call names or whatever. But it's clear that half the folks understand what I'm saying.

The only reason I stated my age and # was to say I'm not one of those folks up front standing still and it bugs me.

Why can't I be allowed to say that? I understand the valid counter argument of you're trying to soak up the music. I get that to some point. But for some examples of not even singing back to the SING A LONG part of a song ?! The call and response and you don't offer the response? I even get dates, or significant others not wanting to be AS exuberant, like my wife. However she's still moving more than some folks in expensive PJ hoodies

I know we're all getting older but that UC show was above and beyond. Even the shows with Petty in Milwaukee were better crowds.

Go ahead and keep calling me names because that clearly is the best argument and way to keep discourse going.

Personally... i would MUCH RATHER be next to someone who was standing there, listening to the music... than some guy jumping around, singing at the top of his horrid, first night of 'American Idol' try-out voice. I know we've ALL been there... you go to a concert... any band... and you end up sitting near a person... guy or gal... that sings every fucking song... at blood curddling volumes... right in your fucking ear. They usually give play by play commentary between songs as an added bonus... what songs they want to hear... how much they love this song or that... how many times they have seen them... shut the fuck up already. We get it... you're a fan... GREAT. Now, shut your big yapper... just of a second... and enjoy the band you have paid to hear.
    ...
Now... I understand that everyone enjoys the gigs in their own way. And yeah... I've gotten irked by the douchebags that show up late to a General Admission show and try to shove their way past me to the front... or the loud singer with the William Hung voice behind me... but, i have never cared about the person who just stands there. I guess it's because i never really notice them because i really don't care. They aren't bothering me... why should i care?

holy lol @ the previous post...

this thread is funny... i guess the only thing that annoys me is the lack of support for these insanely good and at times obscure opening acts that PJ handpicks for us. The amount of disrespect shown towards these bands is unreal. If folks don't want to hear Ted Leo (the threads on this I find very disrespectful) stand outside and drink beer, but if you are inside, a clap or two would be nice. Maybe some folks can actually get up out of their seats even if to just stand there and rub your chin! The amount of disrespect shown towards their openers is I guess what bugs me a little.

I will never forget viewing Jim Ward from Sparta from the front row... poor guy was shaking so bad he could hardly drink his beer. Then i wondered what that view was like from his vantage point as he looked out across a virtually empty arena with some very scattered folks just sitting in their seats staring.

I'm referring to people I've seen standing directly in front of me...can't exactly NOT see them. I'm not looking around to see what everyone else in the crowd is doing, but when it's in my line of vision it bothers me to no end.

You all need to fucking chill. Who cares what others are doing around you, you should be watching and listening to the show! Let people rock out, dance, sing, do drugs, fuck each other,........WHO CARES! It is everyones own right to enjoy the show however they want to. Wise the fuck up! You are going to an arena filled with 20,000 fucking people and you expect everyone to act the way you prefer them to. I've been to many shows and had my share of people standing like statues, dancing, singing, smoking, throwing up, spilling beers, talking, texting, and so on. It is a mass congregation of people and not everyone is going to act the same way. People, it is a rock concert for crying out loud!!! Rock the fuck out however you wish, maybe show a little courtesy to those around you, but most importantly enjoy the show!

Peace, Love, & Pearl Jam, Baby!

So, the people standing directly in front of you are texting one another when they could simply turn to the left/right and talk instead? Ugggh! That would bother me to no end! Although, I guess your line of vision may shift as you span the stage from Mike to Stone, so maybe the guy you see texting when you're trying to enjoy Mike wailing on the guitar is waiting for his text response from the guy you see texting when you're trying to watch Boom play with his organ. Maybe they're organizing a sign campaign to get No Way played and need to alert each other as to when to hold said sign up high. How can you actually be sure they're texting each other though and not people who are actually outside the venue or back in their hometowns? Ever participate in one of those setlist threads that occur here during tour time? Maybe it's their wives texting them to let them know the results of the pregnancy test they just took. Who are you to piss on such a joyous occasion!

Just having some fun with this nonsense so don't take it personally. Fact is, this thread and everyone who's posted in it have no control over what I, you or anyone else can and will do at a show. And as long as you don't whip your penis out and piss on my shoe, we'll get along swimmingly. Enjoy your experience and I will enjoy mine. EDITED TO ADD: ...and therefore, you shouldn't let it bother you to ANY end!

your opinion is great, that is why the USA is great, and the fact we can disagree (I don't by the way) is another.

have fun watching pearl jam don;t let tree folk ruin your experience, shoot all texters with mace, and make sure you respect the opening band or go outside

To those at the Pine Knob shows...I saw 2 shows in MI a few years ago and the crowd was dead. Then I got a beer dumped down my back. I really wish I had enjoyed shows in my hometown!! :(

yea in columbia this couple was next to me..just stood there. very strange to me..i just kept hoppin around.
