ALL Chicago Ten Clubbers: A Simple Request

If you have ten club tickets for both Chicago shows, please, for the love of all that is holy, please do not stand stock still in the lower section during the show.

If you don't recall it was the apathetic Chicago show-goers that POed the band during the last tour. Regardless of how they shake up the seating or your rank and seniority this time, don't just stand there looking bored.

I've been flamed before because of this stance by some who say "don't tell us how to enjoy a show" meaning they like to soak up the music and really concentrate. OK, maybe I buy that, but let's hope that is the few. You don't need to mosh or anything but I'd really like more energy down there this time out. And feel free to voice your opinions below, but don't say I'm wrong for having mine.

This isn't from a newbie either, #105XXX

About 40+ shows. Let's enjoy these!

  • I agree (thought I'm not sure I remember the band being unhappy with the crowds), but I have a feeling this will be a moot point as there seems to be a groundswell of excitement. I get sick of multiple show goers comparing a current show to the one they saw the previous night or deciding that they are tired of a certain song because it is in every setlist. Suck it up, pansies. Get lost in the the moment and let the band know you are feeling it.

Are you saying Pearl Jam was pissed off at the Chicago crowds at the United Center in '06? I disagree. I remember Night 2 when Eddie said something about the previous night being amazing/incredible or something to that effect. I don't remember any negativity from Night 2 either. I know the band has been upset by some crowds, but I don't think it's ever been Chicago.

Everyone does their own thing at shows - I express myself by smiling to myself and bobbing my head up and down to the music. I don't jump, I don't move, I just stand - and that works for me! The best way to get people to act the way you want them to in terms of expressing their excitement, is probably just to practice what you preach, and watch those around you follow your lead!

    I think the best idea...

Is for everyone to mind their own damn business and worry about themselves....

Why the fuck would someone even be paying attention to how others are acting??? There is a band on stage...

    Pay attention to the band..........

I was at both 06 shows, and one of the crowds was incredibly lame.
I'm from Chicago and it pains me to say it, but it was one of the most boring crowds ever.

Say what you will, there is something to be said for an energetic crowd's ability to enhance a show. Unless someone's being obnoxious about it, I see no problem in trying to get people standing/moving.

EXACTLY... I'll act however the fuck I want at a show (within the limits of the law and arena policies).. please do not tell me how to enjoy a rock show.

5/23/2011- An utter embarrassment... ticketing failures too many to list.
  • i like it to be so rowdy its fearful, most of the shows i have gone to i havent been lucky enough to be "up close" and for most of them, im pretty disppointed at what i see up front, its like no one realizes, the more fun you have the more fun the band has then the more fun you have.

Bottom line is... the people not having fun won't come back this year, and the true fans will always be there for our favorite band!

I'm not a big mover at a show. That doesn't mean I'm not enjoying the show. I would rather be near people enjoying the show and staying in there own space. I paid for my seat stay the hell out of my space. Nothing pisses me off more than some asshat thats had a few to many and thinks it's a good time to bump into me all night.

I think it goes beyond that though.

There were people not even cheering when songs were over, arms folded. People just sat down during the encore.

    It was strange.

Yeah guys, I'm not advocating extreme behavior, I just mean be respectful enough of the band where you don't do what VeddHedd and I are talking about. I wanted to stress I get fans who appreciate the music and don't bounce up and down, but that this was an extreme case of the "Doing The Standing Still" as the Dismemberment Plan would say.

    Agreed.

Again, I am from Chicago, and I know that PJ (at least Ed) loves playing chicago, but I almost prefer to go anywhere else.

The 03 UC crowd was kinda lame too.

I had a weird dream last night they added an alpine show and I couldn't go. It was the most depressing dream ever.

The 03 UC show was one of, no THE only PJ show I've ever seen that was OK but not awesome. Eddie was sick, crowd stunk and I didn't think the sound was that good either. Sound at UC in 06 was pretty good though.

Give me the ice bowl any day I agree or Alpine in 98? Oh man those shows were amazing.

Depending on the venue, if you have seats on the floor, you barely have room to draw a breath without banging into the person next to you, let alone trying to move. I fucking hate seats on the floor.
