    I'm not there to:

    a. jump around like a monkey;
    b. sing so loud that it annoys the person next to me;
    c. get so drunk that i either puke or dont remember the show at all; or
    d. show everybody how big a PJ fan I am.

I'm there to see and hear the band, that's it. I'll do it the way I want (as long as it doesnt interfere with those around me) and you are free to enjoy it the way you want (as long as it does not interfere with those around you).

    stay thirsty.

  • If Tenclub would get their shit together  , they would work "style of enjoyment" into the seat distribution. One half section of stills, and the other section movers.

This way the band can focus their energy on we who go crazy

The next step is to break each of these groups into sub-sections (feel free to help): drinkers, weed lovers, drinkers who like weed, singers, relayers, couples that make out during slow songs, friends who got dragged there due to unsold ticket.

This way, once compartmentalized into our "cozy comfort pods" (you can use this title TC), we can all enjoy undisturbed.

I always say BE CAREFUL doing any token at United Center. A good high could become a smashing low if they catch you. Out you'll go. Just be careful. Those ushers and their little flashlights seem to always be on a mission to stop this activity. I suggest getting completely blazed before going in and by the time they go on you should be in just the right state of mind. If thats your thing. Always amazes me to see how many people will get shitfaced drunk to watch a concert. Alchohol and Pearl Jam do not mix for me.

If everyone stood and focused on the music with light head bopping, the band would notice and the show would not rise above mediocre. Do what you want at the show, but realize there are consequences to audience apathy.

Maybe fans are starting to get too old or out o'shape to rock.

Rebuttal to your thesis: Cinci '06

    Great crowd energy, lackluster encores.
  • If you have ten club tickets for both Chicago shows, please, for the love of all that is holy, please do not stand stock still in the lower section during the show.

If you don't recall it was the apathetic Chicago show-goers that POed the band during the last tour. Regardless of how they shake up the seating or your rank and seniority this time, don't just stand there looking bored.

I've been flamed before because of this stance by some who say "don't tell us how to enjoy a show" meaning they like to soak up the music and really concentrate. OK, maybe I buy that, but let's hope that is the few. You don't need to mosh or anything but I'd really like more energy down there this time out. And feel free to voice your opinions below, but don't say I'm wrong for having mine.

    This isn't from a newbie either, #105XXX

About 40+ shows. Let's enjoy these!

ha ha the band was all pissed off...poor spoiled rich millionaires cant give a great show cause the crowd is lame. ;)

    it was never my fault...

Bad Religion is opening! I'll be enjoying myself the whole time! However, I am little upset that the initial email stated no lotto, just seniority and now it's a lotto. Not that it will change my mood at the show, just how I feel up to it.

Joints are never a good idea in any arena. In my experience, places that are designed to hold shows have the most lenient policies. Has to do with the security that is hired. Go with somethin that you can hide super easy and MAKE SURE PEOPLE AROUND YOU DON'T MIND.

I plan on doin it, before we go in, feelin out the situation, and then smokin, or grabbin a mega beer to keep the buzz goin.

Personally... i would MUCH RATHER be next to someone who was standing there, listening to the music... than some guy jumping around, singing at the top of his horrid, first night of 'American Idol' try-out voice. I know we've ALL been there... you go to a concert... any band... and you end up sitting near a person... guy or gal... that sings every fucking song... at blood curddling volumes... right in your fucking ear. They usually give play by play commentary between songs as an added bonus... what songs they want to hear... how much they love this song or that... how many times they have seen them... shut the fuck up already. We get it... you're a fan... GREAT. Now, shut your big yapper... just of a second... and enjoy the band you have paid to hear.

I am with Cosmo. I want to hear the band, not 20,000 tone deaf fans. I'll take a tame concert-goer over a loud, obnoxious douche bumping into me every 5 seconds any day of the week. I was at the Tool show at Lollapalooza on 8/8 and there were two idiots loudly talking about their favorite porn stars for like 25 minutes while I was trying to lose myself in the music. SHUT THE FUCK UP!

As for the guy that wanted a concert that's on the brink of being dangerous... I guess I'd rather focus on the stage than wondering if I'm going to have a bottle hit me over the back of the head. Maybe you need to rub one out before the show so you don't feel the need to slam up against people during the show? Just a suggestion.

A word of warning to anyone who's planning to smoke, a regular cigarette or otherwise, at the UC...smoking has been banned in all public buildings in Chicago, including the UC. If you light up, or if someone sees a puff of smoke, you're out of there. I've seen it happen too many times to count. So if you MUST smoke...do it before you go in.

  • i get what the OP is saying - i've seen crowds so energetic that the band feeds on it, and that in turn makes the show better for everybody. it's not to say that any one person should tell others how to properly enjoy a show, but i've also seen a few fairly lethargic crowds (polaris ampitheater in columbus was notoriously sh1tty b/c of the volume and time restraints). everybody benefits if the crowd is energetic, there is no denying that. i'm not talking about dancing, that's not the point. letting the band know (vocally) that you appreciate what they are doing is not asking too much tho, i don't think.

i think it should be our collective goal, along with the band, to blow the roof off the united center.

Yeah, its so obvious when someone is smoking anything now since they banned smoking indoors in Chicago. I've seen a lot of people get busted at plenty of concerts since that ban went into effect.

Weird. We've had this ban for a few years in Toronto now, and security tend to look the other way at our arena (the Air Canada Centre). Guess that means I'll try and have my fun before the show!

It's funny what Eddie said about Monday night's crowd
A child's rhyme stuck in my head...
It said "Life is nothing but a dream."
I've spent so many years in question
To find I'd known this all along.

wow, that's brutal that you let other people's APPARENT enjoyment of the show determine your enjoyment. I feel sorry for you. I'm in my own world at a show, whethere I'm standing still or jumping up and down. It depends on my mood/amount of booze in me. Never disrespectful of anyone around me though. So I expect the same from anyone else.

I got nailed at the most recent Chili Pepper's show at MTS Centre in the Peg with a doob in my hand. it was from the guy behind me (I didn't know him-he was just being nice!). Strangely, he got booted, and I just got a warning. Maybe he had already gotten a warning, but his friends said he hadn't. They seemed pissed at ME that he got booted!

I don't take that same risk again.
