I'm not convinced McCain would have won the election, but he would have given Obama a much better run his money. I had respected greatly McCain until he apparently made this decision almost like a roll of the dice. I think he looked at Obama and Clinton & knew that people wanted a change, and he felt, mistakenly, that he could infuse his campaign with a little fire by selecting a woman. Apparently, any woman--a woman who would ask his campaign to essentially lie about her husband's involvement in a secessionist group. To McCain's credit, that one was "no dice" with him. But, bad, bad move on his part in selecting her without a thorough vetting, although being a Democrat, I'm happy he made it.

The country and the Republican party need a candidate the people of the country see as fundamentally honest and above-board. Eight years of Bush--eight years of lies and propaganda washes--have left people pretty tired of obvious dishonesty and insults to our intelligence. Fundamentally, I guess, this is what bothers me most about Palin...she talks about how she doesn't want to pursue politics as usual, but I'm not sure what she means. She's been caught out in one lie after another...is politics as usual to her politics where one is held accountable for what one says? Everything she does and says points to her wishing to return to the Bush years where lies and deception are seen as SOP--that goals picked by the elite are so good and so holy that the means to these goals is immaterial. I think Obama won this election when he said things like, "Well, let me tell you how I believe you demonstrate your respect. You do it by telling the truth and keeping your word, so folks can know that where you stand today is where you'll stand tomorrow." And then telling a hard truth, but saying by working together, we'd make our goals. He spoke to people as if they were intelligent adults and comes across as fundamentally honest, missteps and all. He speaks and acts as if he cares more about the country than he does himself. Sarah Palin does not. Her speech and her actions are very "me-centric"--she makes noises about the country, but they don't come across to me and millions like me as being genuine. She's leaving Alaska for the sake of Alaskans she says, but we all know she's leaving Alaska for Sarah Palin's ambition.

I agree with what you have to say with one exception: I feel that Palin was pushed onto McCain as his running mate and that the "Republicans in charge" totally miscalculated America's ability to see through her.

McCain was a "Republican?" Most Republican's didn't want to vote for him at all.

I would not subject my children to that, and if up to that point I didn't know any better, that would have taught me to leave them at home. And, by the way, I guess it was OK to say Barack and Michelle Obama were Muslim terrorists, performing secret "terrorist fist jabs". :!:

Really ? why cos she was a republican. Nobody deserves the treatment her family got. Some of you you should really think about what your saying. What if it were your family ? How would you feel ? If you want to criticize her for her politics thats fine but to attack someone's family is just wrong especially someone with a child with downes sydrome.
I can only Imagine what the media or some of you would've said if she had left him at home. She' not a good mother or she's embarrassed ect. Like I said I can only imagine. Sorry But some of this shit really makes me sick it needs to stop.

When you release yourself and your family to the press, you're open to that type of treatment, period. Think about the celebs that refuse to show their kids in public, or even themselves. The actors that have moved to escape the press. They've actually taken action to protect themselves and their family from potential bad press. Palin deliberately brought her family out into the public, and the public acted like it typically would. I'm not excusing it, just pointing out the irony.

I have a child with Down syndrome. So does Palin. No, I'm not happy how she paraded her infant in front of the spotlight and threw herself to the Down syndrome community as "our savior" because she's in the same shoes. Pure garbage. At the same time, who really cares what I think about her public appearences? She went for the special needs vote, but anyone doing their homework would find that she denied extra funding for special needs for the state of Alaska. Enough for me to see right through the woman.

she's been investigated several times and if it wasn't for the fact she had the legislature on her side - she'd be done ... she already was found guilty of abuse of power and only through pushing it thru the legislature did they turn it back ...

Please explain to me why you think she's corrupt and incompetent.

well ... it's all over the news ... a simple search would show that she's been investigated several times for various abuses of power ...

as for incompetence - just look at every interview she's done ... her ignorance on topics doesn't make her incompetent - what makes her incompetent is that when told by experienced advisers that she needs to bone up on foreign affairs and other key issues - she chose to ignore them and go on a nationally televised interview unprepared ... it can be said that mccains campaign derailed right after her interview with katie couric ... she also went on SNL where she was being made fun of on live tv and she didn't even know it ... at least she didn't go on Letterman ...

So she's been investigated but she was found not guilty on 12 ethics violations . Ok I agree with you on foreign affairs she's weak no doubt, but that's still no reason to go after her family though.

Look prfctlefts I like the now former governor of Alaska It's just I wouldn't want her to be in charge of this country or my state. Well even you can see that she has her weaknesses as a potential leader of this country since you say you wouldn't vote for her to become President.

I'm not entirely sure what you're talking about here. During the campaign, Palin was torn to shreds due to her obviously unqualified to handle foreign policy. After the campaign, one late night talk show host made a crack about her pregnant daughter, who she paraded all over the country as an example of pro-life political values. She used her daughter as a talking point, she can't complain when other people make light of it. And PALIN was the one who went all over the country bragging about how noble she was for having a down syndrome baby... point me to ANY pundit or blogger or news source or comedian or talking head or politician or anything that EVER said anything negative about her baby. The only reaction was that many people felt that what was really sick and needed to stop was the way Palin used her own family as a political football to try to grab votes and blind the public to her obvious incompetence on important issues.

its not that people go with the "majority flow". if you have been around here for any number of years most of the people in this thread have been posting the same opinions and political philosophies for years. we are not going with "the majority flow" like a "monthly period". it just took a few years for most of the country to convert from your "alternate way of thinking" to ours. voters felt the way you feel for 8 years, now they do not. they see through what the gop has given us for the last 8 years and have grown weary of the same infinite war solution and tax cuts ideas that are about as worn out as my cassette copy of vitalogy. the majority is tired of the folksy presentation and delivery of speakers that are like "golly gee" and say things like "nuc-U-ler". palin is the perfect example of the old way of thinking. she has no shot at winning, and all of the attention she has gotten, both positive and negative is deserved. she couldn't take the heat so she got out of the kitchen. she is going to get owned by members of both parties if she runs for national office.

That's the problem, you are talking about bloggers, not the "media" (sorry soulsinging :D )... Yes, the left wing blogisphere hit her with personal attacks, but the right wing blogisphere has also hit Obama, and especially Michelle Obama with a lot of over the line stuff...

The mainstream media was/is tough on her, but I can't remember any network talking heads going after her family.
